Yeah, that's fair. I think that's something to be judged on a game-to-game basis, though. I can't speak for Titanfall 2 because I haven't played it. But I think Doom actually has more of a story (and characterization for the Doom marine) than it honestly ever needed to have. Some scientist went insane and opened a portal to Hell. You're the motherfucking Doom Slayer and it's up to you to close that shit up and curb stomp a whole bunch of demons in the process. I mean, maybe I went in with low expectations but to me that's all Doom needs to be as long as the gameplay is great. Although, to be fair, it does have some pretty solid visual design (the Titan's Realm level pretty much outdoes Brutal Legend as far as being a metal album cover come to life) and a kick-ass soundtrack. So there is a little more to it than just gameplay + level design.

When people said the Doom campaign was amazing, it never even occurred to me that they might be referring to anything other than the gameplay. I mean, it's Doom. You're on Mars and there's demons. What more could you possibly expect? Beyond that, all you need is fun combat and level design that supports it. And that's exactly what I got out of it so I can't say I disagree with the general sentiment that it was amazing. I do know what you mean, though. I felt the same way about Wolfenstein: The New Order. I loved it but it did feel like everyone else was seeing something in it that I wasn't.

Finally some proper gameplay trailers! These show some new enemies and locations (at least, they were new to me), so that's your spoiler warning. I think that's about all I want to see before release but I don't know if I'll be able to help myself lol. I'm avoiding all press gameplay demos, though. Watching a montage of short clips like these is one thing, most of it is completely lacking context. But a continuous 10mins section like some sites and channels were posting recently is definitely more than I wanna see.

Last night my friend was telling me about a talk he attended by one of the main animators that worked on Hitman Go. He had worked on Human Revolution before ending up on the Hitman Go team and said that it felt like a huge downgrade career-wise. I didn't think to ask if he mentioned it but that might have actually played a part in them dropping that style.

Doom. Finished the campaign last night. I usually try to keep my expectations in check when the internet praises a game this much but holy shit, in this case I was not let down. This game is incredible! It even blows Wolfenstein TNO out of the water. It didn't click immediately, the first 2-3 hours were good but it wasn't blowing me away or anything. My shooter fatigue was still very much there. Then more enemy types started showing up and things got progressively more chaotic to the point where you pretty much have to be constantly moving and jumping all over the place to even stay alive, because running backwards and circle strafing just isn't going to cut it. And once that happens, the game becomes just pure goddamn fun. It blows my fucking mind that they somehow managed to make this game look dull and boring in pre-release footage because in reality it's basically the polar opposite of that. That's some seriously impressive marketing ineptitude right there. Now I'm kinda curious to go back and finally play Doom 3 all the way through. This one doesn't repeat the mistake of trying to be an all serious horror game and instead rightfully focuses on being fun. Could be interesting to compare and contrast the two.

Hitman Go was great so this was a no-brainer. They only took a little over a year to bring it over this time, so with some luck we'll get Deus Ex Go before the end of 2017.

Yeah, I remembered a drop in quality after, well, you know. Hadn't gotten very far in that part of the show, though. Now that I finished it....yeah. Also, Crunchyroll is doing this holidays thing where they add a bunch of shows on every Thursday until Dec 22nd, mostly stuff from the Funimation deal so far. This week's lot looks like a bunch of garbage but last week they added Ping Pong The Animation, which I had been hearing is great for a while. Finished it last night and yep, that is one fantastic series. The art style was off-putting at first but it really grew on me over the course of the series. If you guys haven't watched it already I strongly recommend you check it out.

And people act like Konami was somehow in the wrong for putting their foot down and telling him to ship his fucking game already! Seriously, though, Fuck Konami...
-
You joke but there would still be a bunch of stuff left. Some of it better than any game could ever hope to be.

Wait, Del Toro?? When did they confirm that? I don't think his name was in the trailer? Oh wait, was that him in the trailer? Lol, didn't even recognize him. Not the kind of involvement I was expecting. Anyway, this is much more exciting to me than the initial reveal. I am seriously digging the visual style. The skeleton soldiers in particular are just fucking metal.

Hitman. Just beat the final story mission. I still enjoyed Absolution despite it being an abysmal failure as a Hitman game but this, holy shit, this is the real deal. This is Hitman. I'll have to dig into it a bit more to be sure but I think it might actually have dethroned Blood Money as the best in the series. The one thing I found a little disappointing is that there's only six main levels total (seven if you count the tutorial) but they all provide so much replay value (and are so fucking massive) that it's kinda hard to complain. It's also a pretty good example of episodic gaming done right. I was initially turned off by the business model big time and only bought the intro pack to try the game out at launch, but now I almost regret not getting the full thing from the start. There isn't enough of a story for it to lose momentum between episodes and each level offers an absolute metric fuck ton of replayability. I would've probably sunk a lot of time into the game by now had I been playing it on and off over a period of multiple months. They've already confirmed that the game will be getting a second season and I'll definitely be getting that one on day one.

Lol, yeah, the last few eps have been on a whole different level than anything that's happened in any of the parts so far. I never really considered JoJo to be a particularly suspenseful show in general but it's been getting progressively crazier since the start of the "July 15th" arc. I mean, I've been rewatching Death Note this week and today's episode was almost as intense as that. Speaking of which, man Death Note is so fucking goooooood. Can't believe I never actually finished it. The manga originally started when I was in my biggest manga/anime phase, so I was reading it week to week pretty early on. But at some point I got sick of waiting for each chapter and just stopped following it. Then I did the exact same thing with the anime lol. That ending will have been a long time coming for me.

Well, the first game is honestly straight up shit. It only has a handful of interesting levels and most of those were remade in the third game anyway. The appeal mostly came from how novel it was. Hitman 2 and Hitman: Contracts are where the series became good but I can see them not holding up very well, I guess. They would probably feel clunky in a lot of ways today. Blood Money should totally hold up, though.
-
Holy shit, how the fuck have you guys been watching JoJo week to week without going insane?! I've only been up to date for two weeks and the wait is already killing me!
-
I've been slowly playing through the full season this week and it is so good! It's basically Blood Money 2 in terms of gameplay and level design but with the few good things Absolution introduced (mostly Contracts mode and general QOL improvements). It's a steal at that price, even if it's just the intro pack.

I've been tempted to get it all day because it's sub 30$ for the first time on Steam, even though I really shouldn't. Then someone pointed out that after conversion from GBP it ends up being 4$ cheaper on Gamesplanet UK. Thanks, Brexit! Holy shit at that install size, though. O_O 71GB?!? I barely have 90GB free right now on my Steam drive...
-
Lol, yeah. My first build took me pretty much an entire afternoon because I was so nervous and had no idea what the hell I was doing. When I did my current build I put everything together in like an hour max. The only part I still hate is installing an aftermarket CPU cooler.

Well, shit. Atelier series on Steam?! I think that truly makes Atlus the last stubborn hold out at this point.

If anything, the SEGA purchase was the sole reason to be optimistic about Atlus potentially making the jump to PC. SEGA is a big player in the PC market right now, they own a lot of studio that specialize in typically PC exclusive genres. And I think calling VC "late" is looking at it the wrong way. They had very little reason to go back and port it, but they did. Hardly seems like a negative thing here. I'll give you Yakuza, though. I'm still hoping that rumor about Yakuza 0...
-
...ends up panning out.
But yeah, I wasn't implying that this makes Atlus any more or less likely. I've given up on them at this point. Atlus Japan have their heads too far up their ass.

RotTR has all of its DLC available through Steam, though, both as season pass and individually. I mean, where else would they even sell it? I think in this case it's more like how for a while whenever there was a sale on GTAV they would disable the app for just the game and would only sell it bundled with those shark cards to mark up the price. And IIRC, that policy has actually been changed since the time the EA thing happened, so it wouldn't apply here (and it's not the reason EA still doesn't release on Steam, either).
-
Cause I'm a dumb idiot with no will power whatsoever. That's the upgrade to full experience for HITMAN and the game + season pass for RotTR. Would've preferred just the game for the latter but it looks like it's not purchasable on its own right now. Not sure if it's due to the week-end deal or the 20 year celebration thing but either way it's kinda shitty. Really looking forward to playing the rest of HITMAN, though. I've been a fan of the series since the very beginning and the intro pack alone made it pretty clear that it was a solid return to form. I didn't think I'd have to wait this long for a decent discount on the upgrade but at least all the episodes are out now. Oh and not a purchase but a friend of mine worked on it and gave me a code, so I got this.

Danganronpa Another Episode, that weird third-person shooter spin-off, is coming to Steam in 2017. They announced a PS4 port earlier today so I figured we'd get a Steam announcement in the evening. Same thing happened with the Zero Escape games. Likely due to Spike Chunsoft self-publishing on Steam, so NISA just announce the console version and we have to wait for Japan to wake up and confirm PC as well. I imagine they'll be confirming New Danganronpa V3 as well before long. With Zero Escape, Danganronpa and even fucking Conception II being either announced or released on Steam all within a single year, I think that officially makes Spike Chunsoft the fastest Japanese company to go all-in on Steam. Even Square-Enix took like 4 years to release most of the Final Fantasy games. It's kind of hilarious (and sad) that a huge company like SEGA can't even manage a single port a year but smaller companies like Spike Chunsoft, Idea Factory/Compile Heart and Nippon Ichi can manage to release a port every few months.

Eh, I know there's not a story to catch up on or anything but I have this thing where skipping entries in a series kinda bugs me. Plus, with all the shit they added over the years it feels like there's this (admittedly completely superficial) barrier of entry that Yo-kai Watch simply doesn't have. I have the Sun and Moon demo installed on my 3DS, though. Maybe I'll change my mind once I get around to playing it.
-
I also need to grab Yo-Kai Watch at some point. I enjoyed the demo and, unlike Pokémon, there isn't over a decade's worth of games I need to catch up on.
-
Apparently they just announced on stream that it's delayed to April 4th. Lol. edit: yep They confirmed dual audio DLC at launch, though, which I think might actually be a first for Atlus. So, that's pretty cool. Also, kinda weird that they would change Igor's voice actor for no reason. Then again, the series does have a history of voice actors being changed or just straight up bailing, so whatever. Can't bring myself to care at this point, especially since I'll likely play in Japanese with subs now.

What did you think of the pacing? For the first 50 hours I was embracing how slow it was because I expected as much after FC, but then I was like "alright, cool, time to wrap this up" but the game insisted "nah, let's do this routine shit for another 20 hours, k?". Pretty much went from being my favorite Trails game yet to somewhere between FC and SC over the span of 10 hours. The last couple hours were complete madness and made it all worth it, though. I really need to wrap up Xanadu Next and Gurumin and go back to Trails II...
