  1. I think I might actually remember exactly which part you're talking about. If so, yeah, it was kind of annoying but I can't really think of another section in the game that was that bad. It's a really slow start (keep in mind it's a relatively long game for the genre, so they had plenty of room to build up to it), so I'd say keep playing until you're dealing with the Xenomorph regularly and if you're still not feeling it then stop. Once you're past the opening hours, you'll be dealing with it more than anything else for most of the time. If you think you'll feel differently about it than the encounters with humans then it might be worth suffering through the early parts of the game.
  2. I don't like JoJo anymore. edit: edit2:
  3. Only got about an hour into Outlast a couple nights ago and didn't touch it last night because JoJo is too good. So, uh, Outlast marathon tonight, I suppose! It's not a very long game, so it's definitely doable. The early levels weren't as stressful as I remembered, but it's hard to say if it's because my tolerance is higher or just because I actually remembered them pretty well. Oh well, should make for a fun Halloween night either way. edit: Yay, didn't think I'd manage to finish it before midnight but I did and with 15 mins to spare! Was hoping to do the DLC as well but whatever, I can play it some other time. Anyway, so, uh, that got... weird. The game switches gears big time in the last 30mins. I think I vaguely recall some people criticizing it for that but I kinda loved how it went full b-movie at the end there. I don't know if it's intentional but it felt like it dropped all pretense of being scary. That last section was still pretty cool, though. Not tense at all but there was a sense of urgency to it that made it pretty fun. Anyway, so I only ended up playing through 3 games from my list (4 if we count Shadow Warrior) but whatever, that's still 4 games scratched off the backlog. Plus, I fucking beat Spelunky, which is worth at least 3 games all by itself! That leaves me plenty of games for next year, too. This was pretty fun, so I'll definitely do it again. And maybe next time I won't get distracted so much...
  4. Ditto but it was mainly for Oxenfree in my case. Massive Chalice was a nice bonus, though. I also got that other bundle for Chroma Squad and Technobabylon. Yeah, it looks like something I should enjoy but something feels a bit off about it, which is why it took a bundle for me to finally get it. How would you say it compares to XCOM?
  5. Next two clips. Once again, will edit to embed once they're public. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JB0-MFSjKv0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lFh6Ip5v6xM Not much to talk about this time. Second one seems to hint at old-school kinda puzzles, so that's neat. Seems we'll get two more (presumably) next week and those will be the last batch. Hopefully this is all leading up to something, even if it's just a trailer. Although, the obscured year at the end of each clip seems to imply something else. We already have a release date on the game, so I'm not sure what it could be. Only thing that comes to mind would be maybe something related to REmake 2 but I don't see them talking about that in any capacity until next year once REVII is out the door.
  6. I was under the impression that Toriyama was acting as showrunner and main writer on Super. Is that not the case?
  7. Damn, I knew the series started out by rehashing those movies but 27 eps?! I didn't think it was that long, that's almost half the current run! Anyway, I actually held off on watching the movies pretty much for that reason. I figured it would be more fun watching the episodes if I hadn't already seen the movies (and if I somehow end up watching both, the movies would likely be easier to sit through afterwards than the other way around). I'm not going into Super with very high expectations but I fucking love Dragon Ball, so no amount of warnings will turn me off from watching it. It's the first manga I ever read back when I was a kid, so it has a very special place in my heart. I had the stupidest shit-eating grin on my face the entire time I was playing Xenoverse. I can't wait to get back to it and finish the story mode once I've watched the first two arcs of Super.
  8. Damn it, I told you not to get me hyped for Diamond! Seriously, the premise you're describing sounds so much better to me. I'm usually not a fan of the episodic "____ of the week" format, it never fails to kill my interest in a show within a season or two. I vastly prefer a continuous narrative, where each episode leads directly into the next, like Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency did. I need that momentum to keep me watching, otherwise I tend to lose interest after a while. So, it really says a lot about how fucking good Stardust Crusaders actually is that any issues I had with the format vanished almost instantly. The amount of two-parters probably helped, though. Anyway, progress update Crunchyroll just uploaded the first 10 episodes of Dragon Ball Super but fuck it, at this point I'm just gonna stick with JoJo until I'm done with Stardust. It's getting way too good now that they're getting so close to Dio. Really getting hyped for that final confrontation!
  9. Just start from the beginning. Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency only take a single season between the two of them. So, they're not very long compared to Stardust Crusaders, which takes two full seasons all by itself.
  10. Cool. Honestly, so far the weirder Stands have been the most memorable ones for me. Stuff like Also, how much longer do you think the anime has before it catches up with the manga? Diamond came pretty quickly after Stardust ended, right? At this pace, something like what, 3-4 years?
  11. That's good to know, I'm definitely enjoying the weirdness of it all. Don't get me hyped for Diamond, though! I wanna take a break after Stardust, probably wait until Diamond is done airing before I start watching it. One thing I'm curious about, though, is the structure of the show beyond Stardust. So far, the first 3 parts have all been fairly different. Is it going to stay that way and keep changing things up or does the show keep the Stardust Crusaders formula going forward? It kinda sounds like Diamond is somewhat similar to Stardust. Are Stands going to become a permanent thing or will they eventually get dropped like Hamon was? They offer so much variety in terms of writing that I could easily see them sticking around.
  12. Finally got around to playing the RE5 DLC episodes. They weren't amazing but they were fun. Desperate Escape was more combat heavy and more exciting overall but I really liked the nostalgia and attempt at classic-style RE in Lost in Nightmare. I'm really glad Capcom ended up finally porting them to PC but at the same time I'm glad I held off for a sale because two okay 1h long chapters really aren't worth 15 bucks lol. Anyway, October is nearing its end, so I think I'll only have time to do one more. I ended up getting distracted from my list way too much. First by Shenzhen I/O and Slime Rancher but I've also been getting back into Spelunky out of nowhere the past couple weeks and got pretty addicted to it. I was originally thinking of capping off the month with Amnesia but I think I'm gonna do Outlast instead. Mainly because they just announced PS4 ports of all the Amnesia games and they're going to have to implement trophies for those. I'd be a bit annoyed if I played the game now after all this time and just a month later they added achievements, so I'm gonna hold off just in case they decide to patch them in.
  13. Well, I meant that style of enemy design specifically. It's something we haven't seen since the old school games. Even Ustanak in RE6 looked more like the LOTR-esque ogre from RE4 rather than like Birkin or the Tyrant. It's good to know for sure there'll be more than just human-like enemies, though.
  14. Two more clips. Based on the screen at the end, it looks like we're going to get two more batches of two. Hopefully that's leading up to a proper gameplay trailer. Still looking pretty promising. I like how the guy gets back up as if it was nothing. Hopefully not all enemies are like that but a Nemesis-like pursuer would be pretty cool. One thing I'm still apprehensive about is the "look" of the horror, though. This guy looks like he could be from Texas Chainsaw Massacre or something but I like my Resident Evil more... biopunk-ish? I didn't even know that was a thing until recently but it's the perfect way to describe the visual style I've always loved about the series. It started devolving into generic-looking huge biomass monsters starting with RE4 but I'd really love to see stuff like this return in RE7

They told me they were interviewing until early this week, so I don't expect to hear back for another few days. I also don't expect to get the job, but we'll see!

Ah, got it. Good luck! :D

  16. Shadow Warrior. Beat it a few days ago. It's pretty good. I'd put it up there with Wolfenstein: TNO as far as succesfully modernizing a classic while staying true to its roots. It's kinda repetitive combat-wise but the writing and humor make up for it. Gonna have to play the sequel eventually, even though I hear it's sadly become a multiplayer open-world, Borderlands-esque loot drop kinda deal. Also really want to play the new DOOM now. I'd definitely grab it while it's on sale if money wasn't so tight right now. But anyway, who cares about that shit, I FINALLY FUCKING BEAT SPELUNKY!! Literally minutes ago. I still can't fully believe I finally did it. I played for about 25 hours around launch but stopped before I managed to successfully complete a run. Felt like picking it up again lately and after a little over 60 hours of total playtime spread over 3 fucking years, I finally managed to beat this fucking game! Holy shit, this has to be the best roguelike game I've ever played. I don't think any of them have managed to keep me playing for so long, at least. It's definitely one of the most satisfying games I've beaten to date. Only other thing that comes to mind as being comparable would be the first time I beat a Souls game. Holy shit! Next goal: beat Spelunky by going to Hell and defeating the secret boss. I fully expect this to take me another 60+ hours.
  17. Hahahaha God damn it. I got trolled pretty hard by Stardust Crusaders. I'm sure you guys can figure out what I'm talking about. It should've felt cheap as hell but it was played off perfectly and ended up being hilarious. Man, I love this show. edit: Welp, that's the first half of Stardust Crusaders wrapped up. This is seriously the best part of JoJo so far, it's not even close. It almost feels like a completely different show in terms of quality. Still a week to go until Crunchyroll starts uploading Dragon Ball Super from the start, though. I think I'll just start Battle in Egypt right away. I probably won't be able to finish it in time and I'd rather not watch the two concurrently but I don't really feel like watching nothing for an entire week for no good reason... edit2: Wait wait wait. Alright, so, Battle in Egypt starts and suddenly I just... there are no words to express how much I love everything about this. It's stupid and amazing. I don't think I can go back to watching normal anime after this, guys. This is too much for me to handle. I think this show might have broken me.
  18. Nope. Not getting my hopes up for a new Blood Dragon. There are a bunch of already released games on the list (TF2, Shadowrun: HK, etc.), so it could easily be the old one. Then again, it would be kinda weird to do that Trials crossover if they don't have something else planned for the IP. Damn it...
  19. Pretty much, yeah. Dismissing their position on the grounds that voice acting is "easy work" just shows a complete ignorance of what that work actually entails, to the point where maybe that person shouldn't be commenting on the situation at all. Much like localization is more complex than just "rewrite the text in a different language", voice acting is more demanding than just "read the lines into the microphone once".
  20. Looks like they still have some copies left! Rocket Slime as well, since you mentioned it. I'm not sure how much they charge to ship outside of Canada, but folks on NeoGAF talk about using them all the time, so I'm assuming it's not too crazy.
  21. Couple of announcements from XSEED First, Xanadu Next finally has a release date for Steam! November 3rd and price will be 19.99$. Really stoked for this one. It's an older PC game but more Falcom on Steam is always a good thing and this one sounds pretty damn good. I was sold the moment Tom from XSEED described it as Diablo meets metroidvania. Next, Senran Kagura: Bon Appetit is also releasing on Steam on November 10th. This is that weird cooking rhythm game that was released digital-only on Vita. 29.99$ and it includes all the DLC. I skipped this one on Vita, so I was really hoping they would port it next and not skip straight to Estival Versus.
  22. Yeah, shopping for good DS games is almost like its own hobby at this point. I have a pretty long list of titles I want to grab, some of which are unfortunately kinda rare and pricey now. I lucked out earlier this year when VideoGamesPlus somehow ordered a reprint on some titles and managed to grab a copy of Trauma Center: Under the Knife 2 for an actually normal price. I fully expect I'll have to pay out the ass for Dragon Quest VI and IX, though. But man, the day I'll finally have DQ IV through IX all playable on my 3DS will be a good day.
  23. Seems Nintendo have confirmed that there will be no physical BC for the Switch. Bummer but hey, at least my n3DS purchase wasn't for nothing! The NDS library alone makes it worth hanging on to.
