Had a go at Heroes Wanted solo. Actually a lot of fun. Not something that sounds like a glowing endorsement of a 'superhero combat game' but it feels a bit like solving a puzzle. You try and maximise your points based on which cards you play, relative to where it'll put you on the board, what strengths your hero has and achieving headlines and activating other abilities. Besides the setup, there's very little randomness. There was a die roll for an extra bit of my superpower, which worked in my favour both times (and once because of a reroll thanks to a particular card already being spent) and there's one for explosions when that central track reaches the yellow spaces. The red space adds more henchmen which did actually catch me out. D'oh. Had this great chain where I managed to get next to the villain, play my Retaliate card while defending to do 4 damage, which pushed me over the headline for 'Dealt 10 villain damage', which allowed me to retrieve the same card and play it again, dealing another 4 DMG, which then took me over the 'Dealt 15 villain damage' headline and allowed me to KO a minion and lose an injury I'd earned earlier. Really neat stuff and makes you feel like a genius... a genius superhero (phew, saved it)! Ultimately, though, I might have ended things a little too soon by KOing the villain with another 3 turns left. I just couldn't be sure that I could KO the villain before he escaped, which is worth another 4 points for the damage dealt and 3 points for the KO. He just dealt too much damage and I risked getting caught in the explosions, too. Wound up with 52 points, just 3 shy of the 55+ top ranking shown in the rulebook.

RED Not much to say with this one. Great cast, nice quick-pace and simple humour and doesn't overstay its welcome. Probably the best of the 2010 'betrayed special ops' films (The Losers and The A-Team being the others) since it finds the right balance between serious and silly (though the Morgan Freeman stuff was a bit, well, crap). Not sure it needed a sequel but I might check it out someday. p.s. Moldova sucks!

I remembered it and what I said in response. I think at that time I even made a joke on Twitter that we will be able to condense all communication into 3-4 letter acronyms

There's a bit of an explanation of that stuff here: http://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/2g22lo/about_to_hit_level_20_heres_what_to_do_next_minor/ Might make more sense to you than me.

Makes sense that FDS was on a website called 'UGHH'

Yeah, I did, but in the 'What are you listening to now?' thread. http://forum.pressxordie.com/topic/19-what-are-you-listening-to-now/page-137#entry129227 I still think we should ban you though.

Picked up Remember Me on Steam since it finally dropped below a fiver.

To be honest, most of that appears to match up to my experience from the beta. It just lacks the variety and spectacle that Halo had. However, I imagine it becomes a lot more enjoyable with friends and probably worth the price of admission.

Don't usually go for four-player board games (friends and me makes five of us) but I could see this one working with the board gaming group, when the more casual crowd joins, since it sounds pretty easy to grasp. Plus, this was £18.50 whereas I think normally retails around £30.

Okay, so I sat down and finished S2 the other day... Overall, I really liked it. I don't think I could say S1 was any better or worse, but Telltale did a great job with the new dynamic and I think it packed in a great deal for five episodes.

I can only guess that the story is somewhat buried at the moment since the game is supposed to have a long lifespan? Can't blow your narrative wad all at once. Isn't the DLC stuff meant to expand further on some elements? That's just the impression I got anyway. If you recall Halo 1 it was 'aliens attack and then you go to this weird thing and then you do what a robot tells you and then later discover that maybe don't do that'. Destiny could be going for that same long build... only in MMO terms of length.

I think the general consensus with Dexter is that S1, 2 and 4 (the Lithgow season) are really good. 3 is alright. Everything after 4 is pretty rubbish. I actually watched S7 & 8 because the 'status quo' changed, plus it featured Yvonne Strahovski. Sadly, 7 had its moments, but on a whole the last two seasons were pretty terrible. Up until S7, I think it was pretty formulaic so easy to drop in and out. New big bad serial killer each season, Dexter trying to keep his murderous ways a secret, some more back story mixed in. The occasional big event here and there (mainly, 2 and 4).

Agh, it's kinda annoying knowing that's a thing. I should have a PS4 in a month's time, but I kinda want to get the game now. ...but then there's no one to play with.

Ah, that's a fair point. Dean, you can rescind the ban order.

Ban him. BAN HIM! On serious note though, some of the big Batman arcs I'd read tended to throw in all the villains so it never felt odd to me. The AC premise is a very iffy though.

Ban him. BAN HIM!

Is that a hardclaim?

See, I already knew the "10% of our brains" stuff was crap and I was suppressing a laugh every time Morgan Freeman said, "Cerebral capacity." I half expected it to put on pre-tenses of being smart before turning into some brainless actioner, and I wouldn't have minded that so much, but it doesn't do that. All the action is shit (there's even an utterly pointless 'car chase'), there's no conflict, there's no drama, there's no fucking character, it just... is.

Lucy First of all, I didn't really want to see the film. My friends were going and sorting out times for seeing this and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, but getting something compatible meant I could only see this one (when I would've much preferred DotPotA) Anyway, this film suuuuucks. Maybe it was Besson's intention, but you can actually feel yourself getting dumber as you watch it. Seriously, it's like an idiot teenager wrote some speculative science fiction. The story's bad, the science is bad, the effects are bad... The only thing that stops it from being the worst film I've seen all year is that this has Scarlett Johansson and ASM2 did not.

What About Bob? I remember catching a bit of this on TV and thinking I must watch the full film at some point. Then, since it was leaving Netflix, I decided to give it a watch. The full film confirmed what I originally thought in that Bill Murray and Richard Dreyfuss are both great and play off each other well, but it's just a very meandering film.
