They've done studies about "the Pepsi Challenge" and blind taste testing. They've discovered that when you ask people which soda they prefer they think using the part of the brain associated with identity and not taste. Your brand preference isn't necessarily based on the product itself but more on the brand you identify with. Marketing can actually affect which soft drink you believe you enjoy more.
Haha! Awesome. I totally agree about marketing though. People who don't make informed decisions do it willfully. I know people mostly buy cameras and electronics just because of how pretty they are. I met so many people like that.
The soundtrack on the original NES TMNT was awesome.
I remember being pretty heartbroken the first time I played TMNT II: The Arcade Game on the NES. I loved the arcade and the NES version just wasn't the same. I'm glad the days of bad arcade to console ports are far in the past.
@Diedan, Yeah, marketing is key. It's why people drink coke even thought they like the taste of Pepsi better. It's why beer is popular. It's the #1 thing that car designers think of before safety.
In regards to marketing I present this:
Most expensive game I ever bought was Street Fighter II for $83. Still seemed like a good deal at the time considering how many quarters we were putting into the arcade. Toys "R" Us was one of the worst price gougers. They were selling games like Chrono Trigger for $90.
That seemed to be the ultimate irony of the game. It seemed like a lot of those short stories were very touching, so much so that they made the story of the actual game less interesting. I ended up wishing they had just made the game out of the short stories. I really liked Lost Odyssey but they main story's ending was just so bleh.
Other games that were totally different on Genesis vs. SNES:
Jurrasic Park
Aladdin
TMNT (Hyperstone Heist Vs. Turtles in Time)
Mortal Kombat
Power Rangers
X-Men
I wasn't saying as it related just to wireless. I figure companies want to throttle certain types of traffic regardless of the connection. I do see the conflict of interest though. Hardly seems fair to give Time Warner Cable the power to throttle netflix.
In regards to the SNES vs. Genesis hate, I think a lot of it was related to people only being able to afford one or the other. I have good memories of both systems but it seems like there were just more good games on the SNES.
Shinobi 3 was the best of the series on the Genesis and a really fun game.
@Dean, I agree with the scenario you're talking about being bad but I think you're talking about filtering between the same types of data but that doesn't seem to be the intent here. I think this is more related to bittorent traffic vs. netflix traffic vs. web browsing. AT&T doesn't care about you browsing web pages on your iPhone but they won't let you use netflix over 3G.
