  1. Not enough reason to buy a Wii U.
  2. I might buy a Wii U if it were $200. I mean, I've paid more for dinner dates within the past week.
  3. Too bad it won't have any audio.
  4. I will never re-buy an HD version of a game I already own, unless the HD version is under ten bucks. This is because I am not a gullible sucker.
  5. The Basic is dead. 32GB unit sans game needs to be $200.
  6. The Wii U should only be $200.
  7. I wonder if this console generation's clear loser will be the Wii U or if it will be the Xbone. That's assuming the Wii U even belongs in the same generation as the PS4 and Xbone.

XB1 will be the clear loser since I can't see it doing well internationally and that was even before the price reveal. The Wii U has more international appeal and a lower price point.

I gotta say if Nintendo keeps up giving it this amount of support as they have done with the 3DS, I can see the console war going back to Nintendo vs Sony

It's like War Games. The only way to win is to not play.

  8. Neither. Buying consoles at launch is a sucker move. Sticking with PC until 2015 at least. Besides, none of the exclusives look all that compelling on either side.
  9. If I ever get a PS4, I'm not gonna get the Eye or Move. Motion control bullshit ain't for me. PS+ is a good deal; I have no problems with it being required for multiplayer.
  10. Cancel the debit or credit card.
  11. The E3 gameplay clip of The Division happens in a fictionalized version of my old work neighborhood. It's different, but the feel is pretty good.

The Division looks like DMZ: The Game

No, the feel of the neighborhood is good. The game is still a terrible MMO.

  12. Sounds like a good choice. Let us know how he likes it!
  13. I can dig 15 inch screens. But 11 inches is goddamned portable.
  14. World of Tanks looks fucking stupid regardless of the platform.
  15. Just tuned in during World of Tanks segment. My God, does World of tanks looks fucking stupid.
  16. Does he have a monitor or easily-accessible HDTV? If so, he may just be able to plug the little one in when he wants to watch movies. I love my 11 inch laptop. But I think many people would rather have 1TB and a 15.6 inch screen. Atomsk88: My advice is not to get an SSD. Most folks don't really need it.
  17. question: what if the Xbone is actually successful and MS manages to rope in great exclusives (of whatever genre of your choice)? Will you get it in that case?

I know I'll eventually get an Xbone, but not at or near launch and when I do I'm going to put a cover over Kinect's camera and unplug it whenever I'm not actively using the console.

I'll only get an Xbone when they launched the new edition a year or two later because people are still flipping out over the restrictions. "What do you mean no connection?!"

That's exactly what I'm counting on.

  18. The Mighty Ethan demands a willing martyr!
  19. Yeah, Atomsk88. There's no fucking way they'll be storing an extra digital copy uploaded to the cloud for every copy sold. Shit would be pointless and completely bonkers. Their explanations of cloud functionality are in buzzword-speak to impress the gullible.MS may be foolish, but they're not out of their minds.
  20. I'm certain that the HDD will be used for game installs. Your license information will be stored in the cloud. Not certain about saved games, but I'm certain most games will have some sort of cloud save function . maybe not every save, but there will certainly be the option. It fits with the license portability angle they've talked about
  21. Ad we've discussed before, the Xbone is not a cable box. So if someone hijacks your account (unlikely, but whatever), you'd be left with nothing.
  22. Why would you lose data when an HDD fails when everything will be on the cloud? I'd worry more about MS's server farms than the internal HDD.
  23. That's the smart move for MS, since they fucked up the reveal.
  24. Some U.S. game retailers sell physical PC games, but the number of such retailers has declined sharply in the past five or so years. And the inventories are always limited when compared to console games. I mean, these are the same retailers that push used so hard; why sell PC games that rarely get sold back to the store? Of course the biggest problem is, as I said, that MS controls every single license of every single Xbone game. Most people only use a few functions of their tablets or PCs; well under 10% of what a given tablet or PC is capable of. I think MS and Sony have a fairly good idea of the sorts of functionality folks would want from a console as an entertainment controller and are focusing on such functionality. It may not look god to me, but I'm sure tons of folks will like it. Fuck, the mainstream press got a huge fucking Xboner from the Xbone reveal. The cost of apps is irrelevant; consumers who are tech users are used to licenses being tied to a single account or device. The point isn't that it's good, it's that it's really nothing new. The backlash is more that the death of physical media has come to consoles.
  25. I agree with ThursdayNext. This is the first wave of backlash against the inevitable death of physical media. Dean: MS isn't the only Xbone game retailer. There will be many more distinct retailers selling Xbone games than there are or will be selling PC games. I think the more apt criticism is that MS acts a central licensing authority for all Xbone games, while on PC you can choose which licensing authority to deal with. "Eh, it's a PC at the end of the day, can do pretty much anything you want with it. Even plug in a Kinect if you want, and your TV channels." MS wants this to become "Eh, it's an Xbone at the end of the day, You can consume pretty much any entertainment you want with it. Even plug in a Kinect if you want, and your TV channels." Being able to pirate games after Steam dies is not guaranteed. I think it's more likely Steam will let you download and archive your games. MS might be taking heat now, but as I pointed out earlier, all of Apple wildly popular products feature ridiculous DRM and an extremely strict central licensing authority. People are used to these sorts of restrictions elsewhere, and I'm fairly sure they'll get used to them on the Xbone. That's not saying it's a *good* thing (not an Apple fan at all), just that the early backlash may not amount to much harm to the Xbone.
