  1. Once the parents come by for a visit, we might head to the theaters. I plan on obtaining a second Tron: Legacy ticket.
  2. To my knowledge, there has only been one video game that has caused me to shed a tear. Not to say other video games haven't made me feel tearful, but that's really it: feel. To get it out of the way, my one tear drop from a video game was the near ending to Okami. I'm also a dog person, so that probably contributes as well.
  3. Same here. I really wish I could be any good at fighting games, but I know it's only a dream. I got Tatsunoko vs. Capcom because of Viewtiful Joe, and now there's Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which has Joe and Amaterasu! But I've learned my lesson.
  4. He is not gay. He even says so himself during his social link, explicitely (it's not that i like men etc its that i have a hard time being accepted) and there are many times when it's clear he likes Naoto and thinks that Chie/Yukiko are attractve to him. That's why I leave it at "intended purpose." Now, this is coming from Extra Credits, but the story goes that Troy Baker was told from Atlus that Kanji is gay. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/extra-credits/2520-Sexual-Diversity
  5. Extra Credits did their Sexual Diversity video on Kanji from Persona 4. In short, yeah he's gay (At least, the inteded purpose was to make him gay). What makes his case all the better is that you see his struggle. What I've noticed is that Japanese games confront the issue of sexual orientation a lot more openly. Of course, it doesn't mean those games take the topic seriously all the time. Jann was a comedic flamboyant lancer who would crush on Largo. Valkyria Chronicles II confronts the issue of sexual identity much better, especially with Alexis.
  6. I have the iPhone/iPod version, but shouldn't you be able to zoom in an out? Most of the time I have the level zoomed out so I see the arc the birds leave.
  7. I'm a huge Angry Birds fan, and while it's nothing new, I would say what draws me the most to the game is the style. The angry birds, the level design, the controls, even the theme song is catchy! Besides, you don't need to be radically new or different to be a success. If my marketing management class stat is correct, about 71% of entrepreneurs replicate or modify an existing idea. Look at racing games, they're all essentially the same. What separates them is there unique point of difference. In that sense, you have racing games that feature karts and crazy items. Likewise you have racing games that are more serious with hundreds of car models and racing stats. With Angry Birds, you get so much for that $0.99. The free updates, extensive levels, and it actually provides a real challenge. I've truthfully had to look up YouTube videos on a few levels. There's only a few other good games from the App Store, but the problem you'll encounter is either they're time-wasters or too easy. For me, time flies when I'm launching wingless birds at a bunch of greedy green pigs. P.S.
  8. It's really great. It's hardly bias as it provides some well-needed perspective in gaming topics. Sometimes it gets the "Glory to Games" feel, but that's hardly a real downside. The latest one was kinda a stretch, where Missile Command supposedly tells a gripping narrative through its game mechanics. They've covered some issues of diversity in gaming, and recently there was an episode on sexual diversity. There will be more as, in the first episode on diversity, there are many attributes of diversity.
  9. The only Racing game I'll play now a days is Mario Kart. The new Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit looks amazing, but racing games need to be enjoyed by others as well. I don't want to move my PS3 out into the common area. Not that I'm afraid of people breaking it, but there will come a time where I'm going to stay locked up while online. I guess I can include Sports and RTS games, though I'm not against anything Strategy as Valkyria Chronicles has shown.
  10. Mister Jack, do you watch Extra Credits? It's on Escapist and it's a continuation of the series from Daniel Floyd on YouTube. Something tells me you would really be into the topics, and etc. Anyway, I think the problem with minorities in games now a days is that those responsible for crafting the characters and narrative almost feel like they have to solidify that, yes, this person is a minority. Look at all the minority things he does such as talking in this manner, and doing this stuff. I dunno, maybe one can't help to just leave a character there alone with his/her differences. Except, I think that would make them more approachable, such as when confronting someone in real life who has differences from your own. I also think there's this idea that a minority has to be "similar" for the character to be likable. You know, "if we can mimic the audience, we don't need to worry!" That's when you have, uh oh, stereotypes!
  11. Without getting too involved on the matter, there's something that has bothered me about the Harry Potter series: the spells. Not necessarily the spells themselves, but how limited everyone's scope is when it comes to using them. Hermione became one of my favorite characters because she, you know, can use magic! She's doing what a student of Hogwarts is suppose to do: learn! Harry, Mr. Chosen One, uses a variety of spells that can be counted on one hand.
  12. I got it guys! Ichigo vs. Moon Men Hollows Ichigo vs. Alternate Earth Shinigami Ichigo vs. Zombies Ichigo vs. Aizen 2.0 Ichigo vs. Some Chick After said battle, they get to sexing. Ichigo Jr. is born Ichigo Jr. goes through high school drama Ichigo dies Ichigo Jr. vs. Hollows Ichigo Jr. dies /end
  13. Huge Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney fan here! Though, I haven't gotten around to getting any of the latest games... I blame my lack of handheld passion.
  14. Man, some of the broad categories here. I mean, everyone has their choice, but I don't think I can really say a first-party lineup or console is out of question for my tastes. I am however relieved at how many others have my same, as it were, "disinterest" in popular games. I would have to say God of War and Uncharted are my two biggest offenders. I've never cared for God of War after the first, and even with the first game I wasn't that into it. I know a lot of people tell me to try Uncharted, that back when the PS3 library was slim pickings, Uncharted was a shining light of brilliance. As for others: -Pokemon Black/White (Didn't get Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald, bought Diamond and while it was fine, I do believe I'm beyond Pokemon now. Don't hate it, just can't be bothered anymore.) -Minecraft -World of Warcraft -Gears of War -Grand Theft Auto (Vice City was the last I played, but I've never been drawn to the series.) I will give Mass Effect 2 a shot on PS3, but I've never thought I was really missing out.
  15. Well, I hope eBay does something similar. I use my "online shopping" passwords for those sites, so I've always been safe... but they don't know that.
  16. Like I said on the first page, I thought it was pretty good. Considering I saw the film almost two weeks ago, I don't have fond memories of seeing it back in '97. Oh, and I saw it edited(lame) so I didn't get the full "effect" as it were.
  17. I have my Daft Punk - Tron Legacy poster, and as such I want it protected. If it's something cheap, it can use the square tape tabs I have in a drawer. For everything else, frame it!
  18. I know I've been giving off the vibe that I'm a huge Tron fan lately, and you'll have to excuse me for it. I wasn't a child of the early 80's, but when I did see Tron about a decade and a half ago, I fell in love with the style and mythos. I have been drinking deep in the hype drank for Legacy, but hype tends to have an alternate effect with me on movies. Video games take some odd hours to completely grasp the quality and experience and so it's not going to be as direct to come to your final conclusion on the media. With movies you're there for an average of an hour and a half. The media is presenting itself to you, and you are merely a viewer. TL;DR: I'm hyper-critical on anticipated movies. To begin, I would say the style of the movie would be its greatest attribute. There is never a moment where the scene is dull, but perhaps that's because even the most simplest of objects is so alien from our normal perspective. Heck, the drinks are kinda trippy too! The way light contrasts with the rather dark atmosphere is much easier on the eyes than with the first Tron. Of course, the music itself amplifies the style of the film. All the different pieces really bring out the scenes, whether it's fighting the enemy or traveling around The Grid. As you may be aware Daft Punk makes a cameo, but with the duration they actually appeared, I would say they were more than just extras. They weren't significant to the story, but they do more than sit in the background for three seconds. Lastly, the story. I know the majority of critics has been saying its awful, but it's not that bad. It's just... alright. I can understand the difficulty behind making a sequel to the first Tron however. What elements do you take from and build upon? I mean, what should the threat be? As such we have Clu 2 who essentially becomes a egomaniac due to Kevin Flynn instructing him to create a "perfect" world. It extends to a real world domination plot, and Clu's forces begin to resemble the Nazi party. Well, namely because of the purging of the ISOs. Yeah, those people who I'm not too sure how were suppose to better the real world... I think I may have spaced out at the explanation... As for common complaints I've read/heard: What's Kevin Flynn? A hippie or Jedi Master? He's the creator of everything in The Grid. He's not exactly a god however, but he does have great control over, well, everything. He's pretty much an Administrator. Just because he uses 80's lingo in his speech at times doesn't detract from his ability. Sure, he could be killed by a Program, but a laser blast can kill a Jedi too. There's like half an hour of action in the beginning and that's it! Well, you must have stormed out of the movie because there's still more action. I would say the problem is that because there is a lot of action in the first half of the film, it builds up too much. Once the story says, "Oh shi-, we need to do some explaining," there's an unsettling balance of narrative and action from that point on. It acts like a gladiator flick at first, but realizes that it was actually trying to be an escapist type film all along. CG Kevin Flynn is so CG! We're not quite there in computer technology where we can naturally replicate the exact presence of a human face. It looks fine, but in motion it doesn't appear natural. I'm sure as we're(TAY) into gaming, we're aware of the Uncanny Valley. If I had to put GC Kevin on the chart, he would be in the dip for sure, but on the end where it begins to rise. There is dead eye, but there are also scenes where the face is convincing to the viewer. I could go on and on, but it's really a movie you've got to experience. If you're near an IMAX, see it! I would say 3D is optional as it doesn't hinder the film, but there's not much that really brings out the potential. Overall, I get the feeling that a lot of people will come out of the theater and think of it as an OK film. It runs a little long in my opinion, and the pacing could have used some work. Still, I would give it a... 4 out of 5 Stars Also, Olivia Wilde was hot!
  19. Came back from Tron Legacy, gonna write up a lil' review.

  20. The main appeal is that a highly popular music duo had a hand in scoring and producing the soundtrack. If you have the actual soundtrack album, take a look to the back cover. There are other names on there alongside Daft Punk, and would you really be that surprised? Again, it's a movie soundtrack. It's not like Joseph Kosinski, when he met Daft Punk back in November 2007, said to them, "Alright you guys, we're going to need about two dozen pieces of music from you. Make it all electronic and stuff!" I wouldn't have it any other way because a film needs to express a range of emotions, or at least moments. Daft Punk is great, but electronic/house music doesn't sync with you're typical cinema. I mean, I don't think a song similar to "Something About Us" would work for a general audience in a romantic scene. If you want to see a movie working for Daft Punk, there's Interstella 5555. Otherwise, you have Daft Punk working for Tron Legacy.
  21. And I'm sure there will be more to come in January.
  22. I was hoping to one day forget Freaxxx, but it seems that the horror won't go away.
  23. So many great memories being the sniper for the Helghast team. For the life of me I can't remember the level's name, or mode, but it's that wasteland one and the opposing team had to deactivate explosive charges. I found the perfect spot to snipe where I was out of the ISA snipers' sights in their spawn camp. My team was lucky enough to get both charges set, and I took care of crowd control. Everyone died off, returning to camp, but I was sitting back popping headshots when anyone from ISA came to deactivate a charge. I had the magnum as my sidearm, so whenever someone got wise to where I was, two shots and I was back to sniping. I still remember these two guys having a conversation, with one saying, "Shouldn't we be protecting those..." His friend stops him and says, "Nah, that sniper has it covered."
  24. We're talking about a film almost 3 decades old that uses computer technology for its main premise. So yes, of course it's going to be outdated and laughable at moments. Thing is, Tron was ahead of most modern technology back in the early 80's. That's what I appreciate most about the film, how a fantasy cyperspace was able to momentarily peer into the future. Wired [magazine] has a good write-up on the history behind the film, so if you're ever browsing magazines, give it a quick read. As for the soundtrack, it's great, but understand that it is a movie soundtrack. Tron Legacy isn't exactly trying to pull off a Interstella 5555, so Daft Punk merely added their unique electronic sound into orchestral music. Oh, and I'm seeing Legacy tomorrow. While Ebert was one of the few critics to praise the first Tron, I am a little concern with his position on the sequel. Still... I'm not someone who listens to Ebert.
