I'd be interested to see some sources for that. Are Netflix customers charged more for their subscriptions, are Netflix themselves complaining about punitive charges? If we're crystal ball gazing and second guessing, I'd imagine that the platform owners, if anyone, would be asked to pay more. Which would easily be offset by a lack of hardware manufacturing and R&D costs. You're not necessarily offloading the hardware risk to a consumer. There's nothing to stop a third party making a "Platform Certified Device", look at PlayStation Mobile for example.

Thats it. I beg to differ, I'm pretty sure they're curved topwise. They curve to the left.

Oh, thought it was just the activated ones. That's that then.

Made this the other week: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9021/chicken-and-white-bean-stew Very healthy and tasty. Was looking for alternatives to potatoes, rice and pasta. Also tried this: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9065/hearty-lamb-and-barley-soup Without potatoes, added other root vegetables instead. Also, instead of blending any of it, I just mashed it up some. Pearl barley made a nice change. This is actually pretty healthy too as there is not a huge amount of meat to it. (I tend to cook things that I can scale up to make big batches of and then store in the fridge or freezer. Love to front load my cooking.) Oh and also experimented with kedgeree: http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/2256/smoked-haddock-kedgeree I swapped out the smoked haddock for smoked salmon as the shop was out of haddock. It worked really well.

They can't do that with credit card details though (decide to use it to look up my buying habits and use/sell them), not legally or easily. It's not so much recommendations alone that bother me, though I don't like that either, whether it's in Amazon, youtube, or PSN. It's rarely correct about what I'm looking for, and in the case of youtube, suggestions used to be helpful when they were based on the video I'm currently watching, rather than the history it's collected on me. It's also the idea that your system *might be* constantly working in the background based on that. I understand that it's not going to be a resource issue given the architecture, but it's just not an idea that sits well with me; even if all it uses is bandwidth. As far as the presentation goes, as I said, it seemed like they were trying to get me (the gamer) excited about something that is mainly an asset to developers and Sony. Their marketing capability is not what I'd call a feature that excites me, and the end result I predict from it is a visual clusterfuck of a store that is constantly trying to shove shit in my face when I know what I'm looking for, or when I want a neat list to scan through. I only pray they keep it in the store, and not in the main system interface. Yes, advertising is mostly innocuous, but I still don't want it in my face constantly. I don't mean they can use your credit card to recommend, I mean if they are truly evil they will use your credit card to take the money off of your credit card and spend it on hookers and blow.
-
Don't get the reticence to have things recommended to you based on purchasing habits. Sony has your credit card details. If they want to go full evil they will just clean you out and run to the Caymans. Given an option between having things I don't like e.g. the much maligned (though to my mind unobtrusive) Singstar thing foisted on everyone at least SEN will see that I've not purchased a musical thing for years, and will not install that, they will also see that I go nuts for RPGs and will float those and their DLC to the top of my list. It doesn't bother me when Amazon does it. In fact, it quite often helps draw my eye to a deal or a product that I would otherwise have overlooked. So Sony will know that you like certain types of films / games, so what? As for the tinfoil hat brigade running around crying 1984 because of the camera. I really don't think that Sony are terribly interested in spying on you in your living room. I might invent some sort of cover and liberate those clowns of their money.

Worst offender was guy on far left with awful jacket plus t-shirt under shirt. Why not just go full suit? You're appearing in front of literally millions of people. Dress the fuck up!
-
I want to slap people in jeans shirt and jacket combos. When all four of them turned up dressed like that it pissed me off.

Problem with that is that a lot of distribution deals are platform specific and others are quite tightly worded about how you deliver. The number of titles that are (a) Streamable, (b) Are not limited to GEN3 and © Have streaming rights are probably pretty small. Not to mention difficulties with e.g. THQ titles.

I'm an understanding kind of guy.

I think that Dean was being rhetorical and suggesting that Nintendo games should be on other platforms while Nintendo consoles go away. And not asking who you want to die.
-
If you offload the cost and the risk it is eliminated for you. I'm not saying they break the economic equivalent of the laws of thermodynamics and that these costs just vanish into the aether. Sony and MS are already beholden to the data infrastructure for online. But it's just a pipeline. The water company has no more say in what soup I make than with what comes out of my tap than a telco would over what Sony and MS do with their bandwidth. The platform needs to be proprietary, but a platform is not (or at least is ceasing to be) a plastic box full of circuitry.

Won't be spending much time looking at the box. Happy to see controller, EyeS Toy and lots of awesome features (PS Vita as second screen especially). Most excited about the instaboot into game thing. I hate those 2mins of menu hopping and publisher logos and more menus.

Just sayin'
-
Screw it, just give each Move owner access to three geosynchronous satellites per controller.

Yes, but why not instead of that rely on the position of the ball like Kinect does for your hand? When I'm aiming in a light-gun style game the ball moves (albeit in a smaller area than the TV or the camera's FOV). At least factor it into the calculations. Wonder if that is why the images of the alleged PS next gen controller have a long bar and not a shape with infinite axes of symmetry. Thanks for the extra clarification on how wii mote works by the way.
-
Yes, I get the size thing, but depth perception is better with two eyes, object of known size or not. Whatever they can do to reduce / eliminate drift I hope they do it.
-
Why not rely on the position of the ball for pointings?
-
A new eye toy with two eyes would sort the problem I'd have thought. EyeS-Toy.

I'm loving my S3. Best phone I ever owned. Battery life is pretty good, especially if you turn power saving on when you aren't gaming etc. Some of the little features, like smart stay (screen stays on while you are looking at it) are really cool. NFC is underused. Wish that technology would hurry up and take off because what I have used so far is awesome.

I've had rather large fallings out with mods here and never once felt compelled to leave. I also regularly disagree with Dean, especially on emotive topics like piracy and benefits. We look at these issues from very different sides of the coin so disagreements are inevitable. Back when this was TAY there were certain individuals that I totally despised and would butt heads with and not always in a civil manner, that's life, sometimes people are dicks and piss me off. Sometimes I'm a dick and piss people off. I've found that both of Dean's forums I've participated in have a culture of tolerance and civility. I've not seen anyone on here ostracised or bullied for their beliefs, gender, sexuality or anything. Disagreements are not uncommon but they rarely descend into personal attacks and when they do, sanctions are distributed in a firm but even handed manner. Creative differences explain leaving PXoD as a writer, but I don't see why that necessitates leaving the forum. However, it's your choice to make. Best of luck and all that.

I had a DHD. Loved it. Then they started doing this iPhone-alike uni body, no removeable battery, no expandable storage crap. I'll be pissed if Samsung do this with the S4.
-
Agreed cowboy. LBP2 controller is amazing tech. Second screen is a huge opportunity for games both as a replacement for the TV screen and as an additional human interface device.
