  1. I read it probably more than 5 years ago, but I can't be more specific than that.. Other than that I've already said literally everything I remember about it. *Edit* - I mean, I'm sure if I could figure out what book it is I would remember a lot more about the plot, it's just this specific episode is completely divorced from the rest of the book in my memory. *Edit 2* - One thing I did leave out: whoever the guy is who destabilizes the game civilization also has the overall goal of bringing down the real-world (in the book) civilization. I'm like 75% sure it's some kind of space empire.
  2. Mordor is amazing, totally worth full price.
  3. Yes and no. If I understand correctly, they've gone through and filled in missing frames in the animations to bring them up to 60 fps, but otherwise they're unchanged.
  4. I don't mean just Destiny, I mean I don't really play PvP in any game. I've just never really liked it much.
  5. *Continues enjoying the shit out of Destiny* I don't play PvP though.
  6. I won't have time until Friday around noon central, but I also don't expect you to wait for me.
  7. I loved Fed Courts, and Conflict of Laws gets real fun real fast. But yeah, I think what's confusing you Mal is that federal courts will sometimes invalidate state constitutional provisions on the basis that they violate a federal constitutional provision, but because it's based on the federal constitution it's actually a federal law question rather than a state law question, so federal courts win. A good rule of thumb (that is exactly that, so it doesn't always apply) is that when state laws/constitutions and federal laws/constitution are in conflict then whichever one restricts the power of the state more will win. Basically the federal constitution sets a baseline for the limits on state power and protections for citizens rights, but state laws can limit that power or protect those rights even more if they want to. State constitutions/laws cannot limit the powers of the federal government though.
  8. The US federal court system has 3 levels: the "district" trial courts, the circuit courts of appeals, and the supreme court. Each state has at least one federal district court, with many having more than one. The next step up is the circuit courts of appeals, of which there are 12: 10 numbered circuits (1-10), the DC Circuit and the Federal Circuit. The federal courts of each state are within one of the numbered circuits (for instance Kansas is in the 10th circuit, California is in the 9th, etc), with each circuit encompassing multiple states (except for the DC and Federal circuits, which are special). So if the Federal Court for the District of Kansas makes a ruling, and that ruling is appealed, that appeal is heard by the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. The 10th Circuit also encompasses Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. What happened here is three of the circuits had ruled that you can't ban gay marriage based on challenges to laws in 5 states, and the states that had made those laws appealed to the Supreme Court of the US. SCOTUS declined to hear the appeals, which means the circuit court decisions stand. This had the effect of legalizing gay marriage in those 5 states, but it also tangentially legalized it in all the other states in those three circuits. This is because the circuit court rulings are now the law of the land in those circuits. For instance, one of the states that got its law struck down was Oklahoma, in the 10th Circuit. Well now if there's a challenge to a ban in any other state in the 10th Circuit, say Kansas or Colorado, the trial court in that state is bound to follow the ruling of the 10th Circuit court, which is that you can't ban gay marriage.
  9. Yeah, I think he pissed a lot of people off by actually attempting to seize control himself rather than just being a puppet.
  10. Oculus Rift consumer version is supposed to be coming out "soon". I may be building a new gaming PC sooner than I anticipated.

You know, it's too bad. The games I'd really like on Oculus would be Bethesda RPGs. But no, Oculus had to go and fuck up that opportunity.

There's no reason Bethesda games wouldn't support it if it takes off, and they're so modable that even if it doesn't take off people will still make it work with them. No missed opportunity.

      Shut up with your "reasoning".

I wonder if there's any difference in quality between moded OR games and games built officially for OR.

  11. When were you thinking, Strangelove?
  12. I just want to clarify that while I can't speak for other people, I personally have not been arguing that console gaming is better, just that it's simpler.
  13. Don't the figures work with the 3DS version?
  14. I read a book once where, as a very small segment entirely tangential to the main plot, there is this online video game which is basically like a Civilization MMO. In this book rich people periodically go into hyper-sleep so they can extend their effective lives, and during periods where you're in hyper-sleep other people can play as your civilization, so no civ is ever unattended. This one guy, over many sleep-wake cycles, has built a civ so stable that the blunderings of the lesser players who take it over while he's asleep can't harm it, and it always manages to survive until his next wake cycle. One of the characters (I think the main antagonist, or possibly the Dragon, maybe?) takes over this guy's civilization, and over a very short period of time makes small changes that together end up causing the whole thing to collapse in on itself and be completely destroyed, such that it could never be recovered. I have no idea what book this is and it's been bugging the shit out of me.
  15. I know I'm going to have to have at least my left knee, and probably both knees, replaced at some point. My only goal is to make it long enough that the replacement knee is better than my original knee.
  16. I get the fiddling's on me, I've said that several times, but I'm taking about my person reasons so there you go. As far as prioritizing different things than me, I mean they'll do stuff like turn down resolution when I would have turned down shadows or whatever.
  17. Everyone knows a penis is pointless until it's in a human. Or writing your name in the snow.
  18. http://www.iflscience.com/health-and-medicine/laboratory-grown-penises-ready-be-tested-humans Better living through science.
  19. But it shows a disdain that is troubling, the same as when a dev releases a PC port where it's obvious they just didn't even try.
  20. The resolution isn't the point, the point is they explicitly said they were making the PS4 version shittier to keep it in parity with the Xbone. If they'd said "We can't make it 1080p because X Y Z" or "We're prioritizing whatever so we have to reduce the resolution" then that's fine, but that's not what happened here.
  21. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-10-07-ubisoft-defends-assassins-creed-unity-graphics-lock-for-parity-on-ps4-xbox-one And the backpedaling continues.
  22. I've been thinking though, and it would be difficult (though probably not impossible) to design a Moria that's conducive to the same kind of climbing traversal.
