To anyone who has actually played the coop (specifically PC) is my lack of a mic going to be a major inhibiting factor? Is there a text chat option or anything like that to make teamwork still possible?

Who's your favourite TV detective?

We like to bag em young over here.

I haven't even unlocked any of the TF2 items.

Pics or it didn't happen. Seriously though, that's cool if it wasn't just your imagination.

Bioshock was scary...until you realised there weren't really any consequences for dying.
-
Well I haven't really played many actual horror games, but the game that always got me most on edge was Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb. Specifically towards the end of the first level where you have to jump into the water with the crocodiles and especially the final giant unkillable crocodile which can kill you in one bite and you're never sure how close it is behind you.

More stuff about skills and levelling up here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/18/skyrim-skills/ Yeah, I read that but they don't mention which three attributes made the cut (note: magicka, health, and stamina are not attributes). Ah I see what you mean, however there is this: But that's the RPS writer not a Bethesda spokesperson so I'm not sure if he's inferred that from the original quote I posted or if he has hands on time or some other factual confirmation.

I haven't, but do you mean this sarcastically as in I couldn't possibly know whether the mountains will shepherd the player or is there an actual map which disproves my point? I've barely played Morrowind, so not sure if I could form a proper judgement there, although I must say my first impressions were 'this is very much like Oblivion'. It took me a little while to warm to Oblivion but eventually I came to love it. Again I'm a bit confused as to what you're trying to say, but I get your point that a lot of Morrowind fans are critical of Oblivion. The thing is whilst they got rid of some of the character options - which some fans didn't like - Oblivion was still about being a massively open world, and in that sense it was less restrictive (from what I've personally seen of Morrowind anyway). Almost: More stuff about skills and levelling up here: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/04/18/skyrim-skills/ I agree, saying levelling up an acrobatics skill and using a bow is cheap shows a complete misunderstanding of why a lot of people enjoy role-playing games. That is the kind of creative thinking they should be encouraging and they should only be trying to stop it from making the game too easy, not to stop it completely. I completely agree, a flat plain just advertises it's emptiness, and whilst the large scale may seem impressive at first you'll soon just get bored of travelling over huge distances of nothing landscapes. With a hilly area it's more interesting aesthetically and you can pack more stuff closer together without making it look cramped. It's just a shame we can't level up our acrobatics skills and play climb the mountain by the most difficult route.

I think you're leaping to conclusions about the mountains. Specifically: Ok so there are going to be insurmountable cliffs and what have you that you will have to detour around - you get them in real life too - but there is nothing to suggest the mountains will shepherd you through the world. In fact the above quote implies the opposite. To be honest, even though game developers make all sorts of decisions that upset their fanbase, I don't think Bethesda are stupid enough to inhibit the exploration in TES in anyway when the fact you can pretty much ignore the main quest and do whatever you want is the main attraction of the series.

Well Beefy, that's only a series a day and you'll finish with time to spare for the new series premier. Easy :3

I guess it's sort of Youtube for music. It could really do with some sort of recommendation or 'more songs like this' feature but it seems quite good, especially for finding new music. Was there something in particular that you having trouble with? Although I've only really started using it recently so I probably don't know much more than you.
-
Do you use Soundcloud at all Gerbil? I tend to use a mixture of Youtube, Soundcloud and Spotify and my own library of stolen music.
-
Well see that's the thing, I don't really see them as cheap tricks. I mean a bowman is never going to get in a direct fight with a monster in 'real life' so why shouldn't there be an option to get in a safe position from which to rain down death on your enemy? There are ways to stop it being 'cheap', you could program the enemy so it knows to run away (can't imagine it would be that hard - if it's taking a lot of damage and not dealing any have it run away out of bowshot) or simply make it take longer to level up acrobatics. I can see that they needed polishing as attributes, but it just seems like laziness taking them out. Hopefully they'll incorporate some jumping skills into the perk system.

The 5x per track thing is gonna suck, I couldn't really say about the over-all hours because I have no idea how much time I spend using Spotify a month. I've certainly never hit the 20 hours limit. Still I suppose in hindsight it's surprising it lasted as long as it did, free and legal just don't go together well.

Oh duh, can't believe I forgot that.

sounds really cool. Let's just hope that chopping wood in Skyrim is more fun than it was in Fable 2. EDIT (after reading the RPS articles): This is the first thing I've heard (read) that I don't like the sound of. It doesn't make sense that an Orc who spends most combat staying in one place swinging a heavy weapon should run as fast or jump as high as a Khajiit who runs in circles round their enemies firing a bow at them. I really hope this doesn't mean that you can only ever jump as high as you can at the start of the game. Firstly it means I won't be able to use my old tactic of jumping up onto a building or rocky outcrop that the enemy can't reach and firing my bow at them (which I consider a legitimate tactic, it's what I would do if I were an acrobatic bowman) and secondly I can't climb on buildings for fun. Trying to reach areas you're not supposed to reach was one of my favourite past times in Oblivion, I even managed to climb out of the Mage's quarter in the capital and almost got stuck in the un-rendered landscape beyond.

I can't really think of one, just odd lines from random games. 'He's going to hurt himself, and when he does, I won't help him.'

Who's your favourite TV detective?
Mr W Phallus replied to TheFlyingGerbil's topic in Entertainment Exchange
British TV detectives aren't quite as glamorous as you seem to think Strangelove. Basically there are two types of British detective drama: 1) The eccentric and whimsical (and probably quite old) crime solving hobbyist. 2) The nihilistic, seen-it-all, married-to-the-job, divorcee and his team of younger, optimistic, not-yet-lost-their-faith-in-humanity rookies. Neither are exactly the kind of person you'd want to be or fuck. Oh and then there's the third kind: the eccentric, time-travelling, space detective sort of. I decided the Doctor counts, he solves mysterys. -

Well I do love a good Poirot, but my favourite would probably be modern day Sherlock Holmes from the recent BBC series, I can't wait for the next lot of episodes. Does The Doctor count as a detective? -
Gonna have to go with Spiderman 2, too.

Finally got round to watching The Social Network. It's been out for ages now I'm guessing I don't really need to tell most people how good it is.
-
TF2, or multiplayer shooters in general. If something has a story I generally wait until I can invest a decent amount of time in it. To some extent Pokémon, too.
