  1. Metonymy. I prefer synecdoche, myself. Hmm... I was taught at school that all synecdoches were metonymies, but not all metonymies were synecdoches. After a quick wiki search, I am lead to believe that everything I knew was a lie...
  2. Pssst... You didn't hear it from me, but I've heard they're implementing USB gamepads that work with PCs. Just don't tip Kotaku or else everyone might find out.
  3. Blue and orange, how original. Says the guy with a "different and new" take on Mario.
  4. Metacritic is one of the more awful things to happen to the gaming industry.

I don't trust your opinion because you're not a reputable critic, such as MetaCritic.

  5. It was a stupid argument over stupid things between two sides being stupid in a stupid place called the Internet.
  6. Sonic 1, Sonic 1 SMS, Sonic 2, Sonic 3&K, Super Mario World, Super Mario Bros, Morrowind (don't get me started), Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Shinobi 1 and 3, Ghostbusters (SMS), Silent Hill 2, Chrono Trigger (oh god, the endings...), Chrono Cross, Comix Zone, Crash Bandicoot 1-3, Guilty Gear XX... I could go on for a while...
  7. I played through world 1 with a friend and I have to admit that I was not a fan of the pacing. Constantly stopping to blow stuff or to break the floor ruined the flow for me. And I thought it was very boring based on the 1 hour of playtime. We just played Kirby's Epic Yarn for the rest of the evening and had a blast.
  8. Not really unheard of. Max Payne's looks were based on the writer (MP1) and the producer (MP2) for example.
  9. I only read posts with positive rep. Reds say the silliest things.
  10. Yep. People were all "that's stupid and distasteful" and whatnot. I'm guessing everyone's afraid games as a whole will be less "arty" if they allow spanking? I don't really see the problem. It's Duke Nukem. You spanked babes for health in the PSX games.
  11. So, I was pretty bored this afternoon and was checking my Youtube subcriptions when I saw an OnLive review from Classic Game Room and decided to give it a spin. Registered, downloaded the app and ran the thing, getting a huge warning at the beginning that my latency is too high. So, I decide to test it anyway, choose AC: Brotherhood and start playing it. The game was... disturbingly responsive. The input lag was very low, and surely lower than newer games I've tried running (Dead Rising 2 comes to mind). In the 30 minutes I've played, I got two 1 second chops due to my Internet acting up, but otherwise no problems whatsoever. The scary thing is, only after I played AC did I find out that there are no EU servers and that I was streaming from the US. Seriously, I was totally "meh" about OnLive and expected it to be crap. If this gets to the EU and they expand their game library, I'm willing to pay up money.
  12. Unlike the playground one, this is a thread where you have a screenshot, video, or info about a game, but no idea what the actual game is for whatever reason. If someone helps you, be sure to give them a rep up! I saw this on Joystiq and have no idea what some games are, but look rather interesting: Games I need names of: 0:59 1:01 (looks like River City Ransom, but I've only seen the NES version of that game) 1:04 1:12 1:20 1:41 1:42 1:53 2:02 2:05 2:16
  13. I wonder if I could still run it despite being below minimum spec? I know I only had the RAM requirements covered when playing Dead Rising 2 and the game still worked without much trouble.
  14. We're gonna start playing TF2 on the server in about 5 minutes. Join in!

  15. In what way does this gameplay montage for a game due in 5 months make you believe the game needs polish?
  16. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Not bad, but not really good IMO. It feels like it missed so many opportunities to do something great.
  17. Fuck yea, you're the best gameplay ever!
  18. That is silly. People would then buy a game despite them not liking the demo, probably find out they didn't like the actual game, but by paying for it, tell EA to make more games like that. And paying for a game only to have the right to bash it is also stupid, because that means reviewers should give over-the-top scores because they get free reviewer copies. Nevermind...
  19. If the employee was making something for Microsoft, why would he pirate software instead of Microsoft supplying it? That's like asking shop employees to supply their own cash registers. I can think of several reasons: out of habit; maybe he worked on it at home where he had a pirated version; maybe pirating it was easier than getting approval through the proper channels to buy it; maybe he already had a pirated copy on a disc in his laptop bag and it was easier to just install that on his work computer; maybe MS wanted them to use a different program but he didn't like the other program. There could be any number of reasons, those were all just off the top of my head. Makes sense. Still, if you have such a strong anti-piracy stance, some more control within your own company is in order.
