  1. Nope but I found this: http://www.aspca.org/Pet-care/poison-control/plant-list-cats Tons of plants on both side of the list. I know orchids can have a hanging variety but I am not sure how well it'll do indoors. I'll look up more later.
  2. That is the only mission where I lost anybody. Also... sacrifical units.

For California there are the Cal Grants which offers some help but with California in such a financial shitter the amount they give out is pretty low. It helps but its not much. It used to to be able to cover like like 80%-70% for your college education. There are also no grants for when you take summer classes so you'll either pay out of pocket or pay with loans which the federal government does supply. The rest Ethan covered. As for the poor getting a college education. Based on my experience in California, I know you can go to community college and then go the CSU or CU system. It'll be cheaper and if you live with your folks and get fed while you do this, the amount of money you get will easily pay for your community college years. If you save up the surplus and spend wisely (Its hard...) you could have the surplus last for about a 6-12 months at a CU or a CSU school if its not one of the super expensive ones. A transfer student usually gets out in 2-3 years so 6-12 months covered is pretty cool. Just have to play your cards right and don't expect things to fall on your lap.
  4. I know that. That why I used the term "future resistant". Nothing is ever _____-proof. Not even for the PC folks. PC folks only delay getting a whole new PC with upgrades and that what I think Generation Nine or Ten should be doing if the console makers want to have the 8-10 year lifecycle. Generation Eight doesn't seem to be a likely candidate for this since I feel it might be cheaper than the current gen since the format war (Blu-ray v. HD-DVD) is long dead and such. Consoles seem to be getting more and more expensive to develop. So a way to, somewhere down the line, expand its capabilities seems to make sense on a 5 or 10 year cycle. FYI, I follow the train of thought that consoles are becoming increasingly like PCs. Simplified, easy to use PCs/entertainment systems. So if they do expansions, they're pretty much making a slave system to boost the main console in a form that pretty much just snaps right in. Of course the console manufacturers can just go back to the 5-6 year cycle or go crazy like Nintendo and their DS family of handhelds to keep up with the ever increasing speed of technology.
  5. I just checked the console release dates for the big three throughout their history to freshen up on the history. The average is about 6 years by just looking by the release year before the next one rolls around. It makes me wonder if there was any rumbling like what SE is doing right now about wanting new consoles in the past. I'm leaning no or not really since technology has really ballooned since I and you guys were kids. I don't think most people figured it would be this fast so the folks at Sony and Microsoft figured 10 years would be good. It seemed to make sense. Business wise it make sense. Technology wise, hell no. At this point, I think even 5-6 years is pushing it. (I'm glad I'm a PC gamer mostly now...) I also think that Sony and Microsoft might be sort of trying to "future resistant" their next console... maybe. So it can last 5-6 years without people bitching and bring up a good point like Dean's last paragraph.
  6. I had a bit too much fun with Arma II... in my over six hour long session I got shot so many times, I went hunting for terrorists and I got blew up by a car bomb at a check point.

  7. Ah... this question. I would buy an apartment, like this*, for my family (Dad's side) in Brooklyn and then have them deal with the rest like utilities. No totally free lunch here but if they have spare room, which is totally possible, they can rent out the basement and such to help pay for the bills. Same would apply for my family, mom side, over here in CA. I would expect this to eat up $2-4 million. My siblings and some cousins can have some dosh as well. Maybe a million here split between 5-8 people. Now that my family is taken care of... the rest is mio dinero! A nice small house around here in SLO with some plot of land for me to screw around in. Perhaps I can take over one of my professor's place who has worked his land for 20 years making it really nice from what I've heard. It also got the added bonus of having tons of natural disasters considered. Around $1-2 million. So yeah with that, if you have been paying attention... I have three places where I can live. Two places in CA and one in NY. Besides houses and shit... I would finish my degree, get my masters and perhaps PhD. I will work and live life. Retirement? Bleh. Also did I mention I want to own an airplane? *I lived around there before in the basement. I loath the landlord. Fun times.
  8. I don't see why having an indication of what the Pokemon is would be a bad thing. Randomization is still there by just generating the Pokemon sprite but just minus out the just running or grinding through every Pokemon you encounter until you find the one you want. It could potentially open up some new search mechanics like luring the Pokemon and such. Repel would also visualy repel Pokemons away. Note, I haven't played since Yellow.
  9. After some thought and editting... yeah, old school random encounters can go. I totally prefer the Tales of _____ approach with you being able to see enemies coming at you and you seeing them fading in and out after a certain range. It was the next evolution to the random encounter. Its a totally legit setup for any RPG, Jpn or West.
  10. I would be hardpressed to say that a Chrysler is a Fiat. I view Chrysler as its own entity even though its owned by Fiat. I view games made by a studio owned by another studio/publisher in the same light. I won't be exluding them though but viewing them seperately is important to get a better handle on the situation. More later...
  11. I'm sort of glad SLO's climate is pretty moderate. It will heat up during the day but it almost always cools back down with coming of the onshore winds that brings the fog/haze. Revanchist, you mentioned summer harvest starts today/yesterday. What are you and your family/company growing? Personally updates: Kabocha had it first female flower bloom today and the next one will bloom tomorrow. Luckily I have two male flowers about to bloom at the same time as well so that one is covered. As for my first one, I had to use so many old male flowers to pollinate her. I'll find out if the pollen grains are still viable in the four flowers I used by Weds. If it failed, the bulb will fall off. If not, it will grow. I am sort of worried about that one since I tore some of its petals but it should be fine. With those two pollination coming to a close, I am thinking of not even bothering to pollinate the remaining two developing female flowers so my plant can concentrate on the one or two current ones. I'll see. Vacation irrigation plan wise... I should have a connector coming in tomorrow so I can use my current hose and a savage soaker hose I found in the garage. It only has a male end so the connector is a double female. If the connector works, then I have my vacation watering problem solved with an autotimer and all. Worm bin looks to be rocking now. Mites have colonized the bin as well so they'll be helping to chomp down at the bedding and material as well. The worms themselves are really active as well. So now its really is a waiting game. In the mean time, I am making two new bins for future use with prepared bedding. I also got a regular compost pile (by a hot tub...) going. It just a mass of yard clippings from the front with tons of leaf litter. I hope eucalyptus leaves are not THAT bad since a good deal are Eucalyptus leaves. Time will tell and by the weekend I'll test it temperature to see if it running warm or not. I'm going to heat this pile up.

  14. From what I heard, while they're not as epic of scale as the mains series but it does add a ton of backstory to ASoIF to the point that it hints at what the hell is going to happen/happened in the mains series.
  15. Kind of old but... Steve from Blue Clues. He seems like a pretty cool guy and yes, I watched the Blue Clues. I think even when I was ten...
  16. Really hard it seems to find them to get a listen. Oddly enough.
  17. Sums up my reaction quite nicely. --- Finally made time to watch some Nichijou. If I have to compare it to anything, I would compare it to Pani Poni Dash combined with Azumanga Daioh. Its good, cute and I'm watching this in 1080p. I forgotten anime now can be in HD...
  18. Suddenly, because of me, a whole bunch of my brother and his fiance's friends are tagging along froom NYC to come visit SLO... along with my mom, stepdad and such. Like 16 people in total at the end of the month What the fluff?

This sound like the premise of a movie where your entire house is destroyed by guests, only for everyone to solve some family issue. The good news is that you get the girl in the end.

  19. I wonder if Momoi has done anything in the last few years since I saw her at a convention.
  20. Have any of you guys read the Hedge Knight and such? I really want to but they're expensive as fuck.

Inventory management is a pain and pretty unfriendly to newbies. Even players who has been playing for a week or two might not know it all. I personally didn't know how to access my pack until a week or two later and I didn't know how to get new packs for a week after. Its pretty frustratingly unintuitive but once you get it down, its pretty second nature. Its just the bugs that gets you like the disappearing-weapon-placed-in my-pack-because-the-fucking-ammo-took-up-all-the-space bug. Get to know how to manage your inventory. Look up the guilds on Reddit, the Day Z forums or on Youtube. It'll save you tons of grief. Not getting attached to your gear won't save you from getting pissed off about these inventory bugs. --- We should totally be a gang robbing people for Mountain Dew or something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=HwF1Q6KbSV8#t=744s

Not knowing or recalling the mathematical fundamentals for Physics is what killing me. I think after two hours I think I got some of it...

  23. I found this on a tropical island, underneath the molten lava moon. Hanging with the hula dancers because they got all the answers. Ooo...
  24. My GPU fan derping on me. At least I had two... or else I would be pretty screwed. Eh.
  25. The Large Hadron Collider seems to have served it purpose: find the Higgs Boson or something really much like it. At the very least, they found something. Edit: Actually, at 5 sigma... thinking back to Stats... they are REALLY damn certain they found it as predicted. FYI, Peter Higgs first proposed the boson back in 1964, 48 years ago. He's alive and kicking at the announcement. He must feel like a billion bucks.
