Depends if anything I mentioned of it appeals. If you liked Recettear and procedural dungeon crawling then it'd be up your street. It's not the most complex of games, there's some hint of a story to it so far. It's 'free' so might as well.

I'll be honest given where they found them, I'm not super sure it was a huge mystery but does explain why not in private collections (well...sort of) or museums (well sort of).

Pretty cool breakdown of some "simple" fixes to polish up some poor/aging CGI work. It's slightly one of those things where hindsight is 20:20 and advances mean that they can utilise stuff like deepfake which wasn't a thing back then. Heck if given actual time there's loads of "hero" quality CGI used these days to stitch actors heads onto stunt actors which wasn't much of a thing back then.

Games You've Bought: Super Turbo 2019 Edition

Weird desire from playing both P5 n FFXV. -
Moonlighter Still got RDR2 on the go on my PS4, but dabbling with Moonlighter as a "dip in, dip out" type game, got it as part of last months Humble Bundle. So far it's pretty much what you see is what you get, very close to Recettear (Capitalism Ho!) in you're managing a shop and exploring to get parts for your shop and make sure they're priced well. The battle "dungeons" are sort of Binding of Isaac style, procedural generated maze layout with various enemies. There's several other currently inaccessibly dungeons which mentioned access to "adventurers" so I'd guess at some point there will come a hiring element to it as well. The backpack screen also has a calendar on it that so far doesn't do anything which I'd guess might be related. So far it's some pleasant simpleness.

I'd be down with something like the Switch Lite, assuming priced appropriately (current speculative pre-order listings put it about £50 less than a full blown Switch). Got my fill of "under the TV" type consoles in my PS4 n PC ticking pretty much all the boxes so Switch was never a huge appeal to me. But portable Skyrim/Witcher/etc is something those don't really do. And I know everyone be hating on it at the moment, but I'm up for a bit of Pokemon Sword/Shield. I'll be honest I can't see this tanking the price of the main Switch. And it's likely we'll see a refresh of the original Switch but not likely in some "Pro" mode, more along the lines of just refining the model, updating the guts etc. Pretty much the same with the "slim" variants of past few gens (which the Wii ended up with two, one that gutted the GBC parts and then the final "Wii Mini"). Especially with the Switch being handheld type unit, anything that can reduce power consumption is going to be a big priority over the ability to make a beefier console. Maybe a few design tweaks like changes to stand to help heat dissipation, kickstand a bit sturdier, maybe proper USB-C spec. But specific to my use case my bro got a Switch for xmas and has generally been a bit of a shit the past year so there's potential for a dirt cheap Switch at some point

Yeah, it's part of the "Digital Deluxe Edition". (though apparently in some countries it's something else included instead of Heavy Rain, I guess restrictions n what not). Personally for me I don't much care for either PES or Detroit (though of the two I guess I'm more likely to play Detroit), but the Outrun game was a pleasant play for me n my bro.

Didn't play it but supposedly the Deadpool game makes fun of how everyone hates sewer levels....then has a sewer level. Making a nod that you're aware of bad tropes doesn't absolve you of using them, if anything it makes it worse because you're aware of the trope and still use it. I think the only time where making nods to being a game and abusing the tropes associated with that was decent was with the D&D expansion for Borderlands 2.

Unskippable 'event' videos that could just be a couple bits of text and only activate if you launch the event not everytime you load the game (with new players). Mainly focused on CTR's Grand Prix thing which spends a good few minutes explaining how it works (play the game, unlock stuff. kinda simple shit, it's not the Steam Summer Sale guys), before you can actually play the game with your siblings n race about.

It was raised with the release of Endgame

Well firstly let's get down to business: The general word is that this is going to tie in closer with the actual legend (isn't it real btw?) than be a remake of the original animated flick. Which for Disney is a bit of an odd choice, be more interested to see a more grounded take from a different studio. But I guess with Dumbo getting rid of the talking animals and adding some more IRL elements (such as WWI and Spanish Flu) worked out quite well. And on remakes we have a new Charlies Angels. I'm kinda down for this. I'm quite liking the multiple Bosleys. And the focus on the "new songs" I guess they're wanting a kind of Independent Women kind of success off it too. Kinda liking the twist here to change things up a bit while still retaining the star power of the second. The last was a bit of a surprise hit for many folks, so this one has a bit of a weight on its shoulders to match the new higher expectations. And from the director of TLJ comes a pretty neat looking neat whodunnit. Current theory is the killer is Tim Curry, it's the only true solution.

I've a friend having a bit of a bad time atm so couldn't come, but when he's better I'd be totally down for a second excursion to this. It doesn't quite have the "vulture is my dates dad" moment and the car journey thing, but it's otherwise a pretty fine film.

I think you mean: Shin Megami Tensei III:Nocturne/Lucifers Call (EU name): Featuring Devil May Cry's Dante. I had/have it on PS2 and got stuck on it years ago with some floor puzzle thing (I think I was underleveled for that section tbh). I do try it on emulators every now n then cos I really liked the art style and at the time the sort of "dark pokemon"-esque feel of it, but yeah I'm unlikely to ever finish it. I think it's one of the few games I bought based on a magazine review. In retrospect it was odd I was ever able to find a copy given it was pretty niche back then and non-FF JRPGs were hard to come by 20 years ago.

Spider-Man: Far From Home Ultimately the best spoiler for this is of course It hit the tone it needed to hit in having an "Avengers level threat" so you're not going from world-ending threats to neighbourhood stuff, while having a much needed goofier tone to not be too rough after the end of Endgame. Such as the "peter tingle" and "blip". Which the 5 year gap is covered and some of its repercussions (including for example age ID not quite being correct. "he's not actually 21"). Which actually the thread of characters not being old enough to drink crops up a few times, I wonder if something to do with Tom Holland being British and therefore technically able to drink but not while shooting in US (though he's now 23). RE your spoiler Interesting to see where it goes. Not sure how many months this is after Endgame but does set up a few "things need sorting out post-Endgame" plot points. Chunk of the Avengers are dead/old/off world, there's half a globe of displaced people. And also Next phase is waiting to see the films that're due soon to all be named n dated cos speculationville is left a bit hanging at the moment.

These are always fun. Not seen Short Circuit in ages.

Uplay, for all the ire it gets, does do this with pretty much all their games. Achievements get you coins which you can not only spend on discounts on the store, but also use to get DLC (usually skins and the like) in other games. And it's cross platform too, so you can get the coins playing AC on PS4 then spend the coins on Division on PC or what not. It's pretty neat. (and to be fair in the "discounts off games" the Steam trading card is kinda similar).
-
Not sure this year they'll get much on the technical front, especially with the Battle of Winterfell being pretty much entirely in the dark. Compared to some of the shots of past (Battle of the Bastards being a biggy) they've not quite hit some of the high points. But a lot of awards shows are politics and GoT might still score well within the industry, especially when up against Netflix shows and all that "evil" of non-cable networks.

I don't think we actually have a single Christopher in my family tree.

Yesterday So a part of the big slew of musical themed films coming out of late, but in this case (if you've not seen the trailer) instead of being about The Beatles it's about their songs alongside a sort of soppyish Richard Curtis storyline (Love Actually, Notting Hill etc). And it works really well. Beatles songs are hits anyway, but it's got the nice "feel good" stuff on the top, funny, occasionally dramatic. And what's weird is it's a film where really need to put a lot in spoilers because it's not entirely what is on the surface (or at least in the trailers). Also Ed Sheeran is kinda good at poking fun at himself. I kinda liked the simple joy of the dad trying to get into various cupboard and drawers in the kitchen and Ed Sheeran pretty much standing in front of the wrong one each time. The love story element is a little bit...awkward (especially towards the end...). Also the casting being "Hmm..need Indian parents...what about the Kumars?". But yeah, if wanting a "feel good film" give it a shot. Only issue being it's wedged right in-between Disney Pixars Toy Story 4 and Disney & Sony Pictures Spider-Man. So Beatles may be bigger than jesus, but Disney is even bigger still. I was 1/7th of the audience tonight.

Yeah Samsung probably best bet for tablets these days. I'm on a Galaxy Tab A at the moment n previously had a Tab Pro. Bigger at 10.1", was about £150 in a sale, does me great for comic/manga reading due to the screen size being 16:10 which is pretty close to comic page size. As covered in the film thread I'm fine with watching TV shows on it (since old ones are 4:3 and newer ones are 16:9, but for films you'll get letterbox). Like a lot of Samsung stuff has microSD support to expand space(double check on the device before buying cos..it's "alot of samsung" not "all samsung" unfortunately). Really my only major beef with it is it came out just as USB-C was kicking off and so it's micro-USB still. Also downward/sideward firing speakers (depending on orientation) so while there's two in 'stereo' you're not quite gonna get that effect, but for youtube/TV it's fine. Oh n game wise I've played all the Room games on here pretty fine. https://www.samsung.com/uk/business/tablets/galaxy-tab-a-10-1-t580/sm-t580nzkebtu/ Getting an older device tablet wise from Samsung is pretty savvy option as they're pretty great for years on. My TabPro was still a beast when it finally died, otherwise I'd still be rocking it fine. So don't worry in dabbling into 'older' stuff from a few years ago, and tend to have support for LineageOS too if you're wanting to upgrade Android version and fine with a bit of tech dabbling. Oh avoid Amazon Kindle stuff.

I'm much more okay with watching TV shows on smaller screens (much of my recent 30 Rock binge has been on my tablet). For like 'big action' films, e.g likes of MCU, I'd want to watch on a big screen, but things like dramas, comedy etc I'm fine with smaller screens as usually there it's the dialogue that's the core point. I'm similar rules for when I get blu-rays.

Games You've Bought: Super Turbo 2019 Edition
deanb replied to toxicitizen's topic in General Gaming Chat
Meh. Anywho I got this: Still on the first section, but tbh didn't get it for myself to blast through but for the co-op nostalgia goodness. Unfortunately as we're now all significantly older it's a bit harder to get siblings over to play as of yet but damn looking forward to it. -
Red Dead Redemption II I'm mostly enjoying the meditative gameplay, the pretty vistas, and the slower paced missions. But damn if the whole "your weapons are on your horse" bullshit wasn't driving me absolutely batty. Having to constantly bring up the weapon load out and pick your weapons. At the moment 90% of the time I'm going with a shotgun and rifle (unless I'm specifically hunting), but every goddamn time I have to load up the wheel, cycle past my ever growing list of weapons (including a "worn" one I picked up a while ago and seem to have no way to offload). Sure it's "realistic" but on the other hand my horse constantly jumps off little cliffs n picks itself up so I'm not sure they're applying the realism in the right places (and tbh I don't think in reality folks would be completely packing away their weapons each time they get on their horse). Also not having a way to reset missions/checkpoints without dying. But dynamite thankfully only takes a few seconds to get there (and yeah for some reason I leave all my main weapons on my horse but always walking around with a few pound of dynamite, several throwing knives and hatchets, a lasso, lantern, and 20 cans of beans and cigarettes). The trillion methods of interacting also 1. aren't consistent ( to loot a body, to loot a wardrobe being one example). 2. mean that I'm having to double check that I'm not about to blow a hole in someone cos they're stood next to my horse. (shotgun headshots are kind of grossly satisfying though). Really need to finish this game at some point. I got it when it launched, and got to..Altissa I think it is, and then they started with the events and a bunch of patching/updates/additions and such and I was like "okay I'll hold off until they're done". Which I believe as of Episode Ardyn the other month they're now finally done. Generally agree with your assessment of the game though. Pretty, the bro stuff is pretty damn great (even if it's a bit of a bummer there's no females and means limited jobs/classes compared to other games). It's a bit weird, it feels like it might have been the last Final Fantasy game in a way (at least for a long while). It was announced back in 2006 (as Versus), and we're two years after that decade long development and not an inkling of a new game. If/when it is announced I'd kinda like an "old-fashioned" one, like FFIX etc(I know I'm biased) with the medieval-esque setting. XII(plus sequels) and XV both were modern/futuristic settings and it's felt a bit jarring. Like even with VII while Midgar is all quite modern, there's still like the medieval towns n stuff kicking about. I think I'd drop an openworld in favour of an overworld too; kinda miss the foot, chocobo, boat, airship progression.

tbh I only replied so I could use a gif from the film (it's quite giffable). Though the film is five years old. I guess no second screen element you could watch from? Hit up @cinemile on Twitter, they have a young kid n watch films, might have some tips. Probably written something up at some point. Anywho, one more gif.
