Dang this is less than three weeks away Also to get that "two miles" in my last post I actually worked out what the footage would be for the actual film with a rough guess at being ~2hrs long (though it will probably be longer). Of course in most places it'll be digital so that's pretty moot. Also assumes 35mm.

Based on some dismissive remarks by some coding friends it's not as sci-fi land as reports would have you think. But I don't know enough on coding either way, so I'll just nod and go "cool", until something somewhat practical arrives (i.e the promised advances Watson was to give in medical practice)

Coco Remember me Though I have to say goodbye Remember me Don't let it make you cry Watched this film with my family. Pretty good Pixar film and the end gets you in the feels (sort of Bing-Bong level of feels). Pretty nice animation, really liked the opening credit with the sort of family story/legend in the paper craft. It does feel a little bit like it goes...not so much in circles but the "long way around", but I guess it helps with setting up for the reveals and such. I'd be interested to hear @MetalCaveman's thoughts on it with regards to the day of the dead stuff. I've heard the spirit animal things are a kind of newish "tradition" and from some artist and they became quite popular (in a similar way to the "Keep Calm" posters over here). I think a fair chunk of the gut-punch feels in it are related to the (unspoken) dementia of Coco, which I think many people have unfortunately some exposure to in their elderly relatives and given how the film relates to memories and such it allows the film to layer itself onto your own existing emotions around the illness. Oh bonus: Since Olafs Frozen Adventure was shown on TV over Christmas period it wasn't part of the films release over here. Which means I've yet to see it at all. No other alternative pixar short though which kind of sucks. I do have some questions around how the economy of the afterlife works.... Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri Watched this with my sister. I had some pre-conceptions going in based on In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths which it didn't really pan out. Like it does have its dark humour moments but it's otherwise more of a drama than the previous films. It's a dry film. Enjoyable, though I know my sister was left a bit deflated by the ending but I'd say it kind of telegraphs fairly early on that's how it's going to go. I've maybe read it completely wrong but I'd say it's core part of the films story that assumptions that you have on people/events and the assumptions people form around you are usually not really right. Though some can be quite spot on. "Who else would it have been?"

Got myself a wee treat since local HMV finally got more copies in that weren't already opened banged up cases And not so much a treat as a necessity got myself a new electric razor/shaver thing. Multi-headed. Can't find a picture (I guess I could look up model number, but...it's an electric razor I'm sure most of you have seen them before).

Yeah this is getting pretty good. I'd say it's still not quite old-style Trek, it's Trek in a newer TV expectations skin. Mainly in that it's has a longer continuing arc rather than individual "monster of the week" style of the previous runs. The first two episodes are pretty much a prologue for the show, with the main action being episode 3 onwards. I am still strongly of the thinking that USS Discovery shouldn't be around technology wise in the timezone it has, but I've a feeling we're going to get a better explanation around that...soonish.

The musings I've seen on this is that it's potentially related to some Super Bowl advert rather than an actual movie. But who knows.

This was linked and I watched and it threw me as it wasn't the tones of Tony Hirst In UK How It's Made is redubbed Same with Mythbusters. I think part of it is mainly because these kinds of shows have a lot of words and measurements that do differ across the pond (e.g chips/crisps). Anywho:

New Theme Hospital.

When I first saw this on my feed I thought it'd be like as in RGB computer fans as a bit of a gimmick, not like those "air writing" LED things but, as Linus puts it, on steroids. It seems pretty cool, and given that a fan can also rotate on its stand too you could in theory see it making "3-D" images too, beyond just a 3-D effect. Shame it's $3000 a pop, but for what it is it's not hugely surprising. It wouldn't be intended for private use.

Huh. My Extended Blu-ray is blue. Wonder if maybe it's a UK/EU region release difference? (my copy is 2011 too).
