Meant to respond to this earlier but phone acted up (well..more Chrome than the phone) I'd say a good golden rule before getting a platform is to have 10 games you want for it first. That way you're not buying it and having only a couple title for a year or so to play which would drive you off the platform pretty sharpish before it's matured, and also means you get to buy it post launch when everything starts dropping in price and the hardware more refined and stable. About the only reason to get at launch is for the "FIRST!!1!!" factor, not like it's a cake that'll go off, it can only get better as time goes on. Also it's worth holding on to wait n see what PS4 n Xbox 3 news crops up next year. It'd suck if your console budget was blown on the Wii U then something in the PS4/Xbox 3 really enticed you. As for the HD mario, as I mentioned to you on twitter:

The Prof Layton thing sucks cos the DS is a pain in the ass to hook up to modern routers. Though the game is pretty complete without them, I'm to understand the daily downloads are only minor anyway. In general the iPhone 5 is playing catch up with stuff like widescreen and LTE. No NFC mind. It's built for existing Apple customers that have contracts ending, not much more. If you wanted widescreen n lte you could have gone elsewhere already.

So first the funny: Now to the iPhone 5: Sports a faster processor, as kinda expected (not like it'll be slower) Supports LTE finally (though this does mean HTC and Samsung patent lawyers are going to dive on it) Has a taller/wider 4" screen and can now display five rows of apps on the homescreen! Screen is still the same resolution, which maybe a bad long term move given it's only 10 ppi more than the One X n Galaxy Nexus. Has a new "Lightning" connector on the bottom meaning long term Apple customers can have the joy of buying adapters and Apple shareholders the joy of an extra sports car. It's over Thunderbolt too, which I don't think can be right cos Thunderbolt is nowhere near ubiquitous as USB. (but then again Apple port/Lightning is still nowhere near as ubiquitous as Micro-USB either) Apps will now sport a fancy black border because the SDK is built on the assumption that all devices are 3.5" unlike an SDK built to assume the app might not even be on a phone/tablet. New iTunes version. New iOS version. Comes with an Instragram thing. n "Passbook" cos that'll be useful for...no one. I don't get it. Supports China more (this is one of their big markets now) Siri now a bit better or something. No more Google Maps. iPod is pretty much same but no LTE (or phone bits at all) and has a strap and "EarPods". Their big thing (and the tagline is "biggest thing to happen to the iPhone) seems to be that it's no longer 4:3. Which is a really weak thing to make your big thing given there's a trillion n one widescreen phones and has been for ages. It's not a feature, it's a fix. They make money by getting people to buy movies n shows on iTunes. Movies and shows that come in a 16:9 format and their device can't display them correctly. It really broke their "vertical integration" n was an unApple like mistake and lack of polish that had remained for the past five versions of their phone (yeah..this is the sixth iPhone)

AMD Broadway is the chip on the Wii. That means the Wii U chip, if that's correct, is ...three Wii's ducktaped together. I would assume it's a bit better given the "enhanced" thrown in there. But still, pretty much same chip as the Wii. Which I guess helps with development. (I have said many times I think PS4 should stick with Cell architecture). The gig of RAM will help, but yeah it's a console that'd have come out 4 years back, but for Nintendo it's pretty much on par with expectations. They won't make a PS4/Xbox 3 comparable console.
