  1. I only hunted this down cos Kucherea tweeted that Kotaku had cropped their watermark. Then I found out that the article itself was bringing the hard hitting gaming news Kotaku are known for: http://kotaku.com/5886466/breaking-gabe-newell-grows-beard I've a feeling they didn't even read the rest of the article they sourced, for which there's plenty of snippets to take away.

http://penny-arcade.com/report/editorial-article/valves-gabe-newell-talks-wearable-computers-rewarding-players-and-whether-w So "Penny Arcade Report" is now active, and brings an interview with Gabe Newell. Got him talking on his role in Valve, how Valve works, game development, and my favourite: hardware development. This is part of their work on the bio-rythmics stuff they've been talking of in the past as well as them looking at "wearable computing". Seems they want to expand into that a bit, but trying not to have to go into hardware business side of things themselves. Also talk of being aware of folks frustration at lack of word on HL3/Ep3/L4D3. Just read it okay, there's like 3 pages to it
  3. I'll agree with Sporkwaffles that some of the characters are a bit out of character.
  4. http://impulsedriven.com/stalker STALKER: SOC for a few quid http://www.gamersgate.co.uk/DD-HOI3/hearts-of-iron-3 Hearts of Iron 3 also for a few quid. I know little of HoI, but I have STALKER and its...different. It's closer to something like Fallout 3 than COD if you're wanting a shooter. It's also slightly older in gameplay, which does add a layer of "annoying" to the difficulty. Other than that, alright and different game.
  5. Aha! I can vaguely join in on this thread. So other night, for whatever reason, I remembered an old cartoon I watched at my grandmas. After various shots with random strings of keywords: Hana no Ko Lunlun AKA Lulu, The Flower Angel Basically she had a magical flower-shaped pin which would gain her special suits depending on whichever flower she shone in it. I can't remember too much beyond that. Anyone else see it?
  6. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E38G31wo7qc http://utblive.com/ Yeah cos this seems smart. Then again it's not like normal contact sports are danger free either. To balance that out: http://imgur.com/a/y8qnK (oh and it was $2.25)
  7. Which PDF? edit: Wait I found it. Now reading. edit: now not reading it. Jesus Christ is it fucking hard to read this writing (not helped by random capitalizations, terrible formatting and a huge over-use of footnotes). It does touch upon the "judge not lest you be judged" kinda thing though in the Conclusion though...
  8. As far as "Liking statuses", the guy stopped updating it so it doesn't work on the current system. In fact it doesn't just "not work" it breaks it a bit too. It'd be awesome to have back mind, but it seems no one else is working on an updated replacement. The "Like" system is still built upon the reputation system, so it will add to the overall reputation you have. Which I'm not so sure on cos the "Like" thing isn't really a "reputation system". Which as I was told in a PM last night is how it was used for some of you, i.e "this person is a dick", "oh so says the rep system on his profile". Thing is that's how it was meant to work out. Those that provided a crappy experience, made pointless posts etc would have a negative reputation, and those that made good posts, providing great info and were helpful would get a positive reputation. Though over time it became "those that went against the grain got a negative reputation". So it became a bit less helpful. So with the "Like" system hopefully it'll be used to promote good content and posts. While for those that are abrasive or posting fucking all, are reported instead (hover over the bottom of a post, it pops up along with Edit and..Delete for you guys?). Not that I feel it needs using more often, but I've had a few moments where folks have mentioned past events and how nothing came of it. Well cos none of you report stuff (except that 1000AD guy. Which I'm working on how to make a "this guy is legit" identifier), you guys tend to just heavily downvote folks instead.
  9. Ah, well I may have ended up missing one of the breaks if I caught up in bulk. I liked him, be good to see him pop up. One time or a more permanent addition? i.e like Christopher Lloyds appearance, or like Sam Weiss style (as in not full cast, but pops up often)
  10. It has had two. Which meant that I ended up missing some at the time because It had one long break, then a minor two week break. That two week break happened so quickly after the first meant I was thrown out the loop on my usual Saturday habit of grabbing new fringe (so I caught up last week). Also since I'm now completely finished with the latest episode:
  11. I also watched Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Now the cast says it should be in Good Movie. And the cast chosen was great, cream of the british crop (though I must say Trigger n Perry threw me a bit, but it worked well). The issue was the fucking story. I tried to follow along, but I hadn't a clue. And suddenly there's dead teachers killing King George VI and I'm like WTF happened in the preceding 2 hours for this to happen? So yes, great cast, terribly told story. The spy names didn't really help.
  12. So I watched Kings Speech the other day. Then went out so never ended up putting up my thoughts. It's good, tightly focused cast. . I'm not always one for period dramas but it was good, the upcoming war was but a back-drop. I guess it's good that the focus was on the stammer and relationship of Bert n Logue cos otherwise I'd have known the end . "Ah, Dumbledore is going to die soon". There was a part that I liked, where Albert n Logue are walking down the park and logue talks of how Albert could be the next king. Albert burst out "Do not take liberties. That's bordering on treason". "Well you could do it, you could be king" "That is treason". Just such a great bit of banter between the two. Good film.
  13. See symbolically is how the bible is looked at over here. It's full of morals, not factual recollections of historical events. However you said yourself you're a biblical literalist. You take what was said in the bible literally. Surely can't really have it both ways? Some is symbolic, some is real. (well obviously some... Israel. I'll let myself out). As for Israelites not knowing of germs: We didn't know about gravity. We still knew from trial and error that you tended to live longer if you didn't jump off a cliff. Didn't know of vitamin C, knew that lemons and oranges were good on ship voyages.
  14. @Yante: AH! SO THAT EXPLAINS IT! (and a bit more) (p.s your SAT scores mean nothing to me. our SAT are in levels (i.e I got a lvl 8) @the rest: The general use of theory is is closer to a hypothesis. A hypothesis is "we think this will work this way" then you test it and find out. A theory is "this is how it works and how it will work". It's not always 100% right, and will as scientific understanding and our tools to observe the universe improve (i.e microscopes, LHCs, satellites, genome sequencing etc), the theory is refined and improved. Theory of relativity, theory of gravity, theory of evolution etc. Theories also make predictions of what would happen. For example Mendeleev and his periodic table, he managed to fill out several elements that weren't at the time known of. Scientist observes how the universe works, then the theory explains what is happening. It doesn't guess what is happening, because what is happening is actually happening. No one is guessing gravity exists. We know it exists, it existed before Newton even "observed" it. What Newton did was to write it down. Same with evolution. It happened, Darwin then observed the changes of evolution in action. Then he wrote his theory. It had a few rough patches, for example his was "survival of the fittest" which isn't strictly true, which have been improved and refined upon as our techniques improved. For example genome sequencing. Genetics wasn't really a thing when he was around, so he couldn't really explain the adaptations and mutations through genetic mutations as we can now. Same as Newton cocked up a bit which Einstein since reworked, and scientists are still building on. And slightly related: The banana
  15. So that "previously on FFXIII-2" stuff is good when it works. Which would I guess be the first time. Then it all goes to shit when you start hoping about timelines and it fails to take into account that you've been to many other places not in the right order. Also found out why they're 23MB for a file (Which having a single save slot annoys the hell out of me). It's cos it saves your location not at that moment of the game when you save. It saves your location in every time-zone in every location. Meaning when you go back to different places/times you end up popping up at the place where you last left off, not out of a standard location like the gate at the start of a level. For the non-FFXIII-2 people It'd be like if you fast travelled to Whiterun and instead of landing at the city gate, you're outside the Companions cos that's where you last fast travelled from. On one hand neat, on the other hand it absolutely destroys the saving and loading times.
  16. Nearly ended Season 4. It's still all good. It was a shame that two of the episodes, in a row, were focused around people seeing the future. Just watched next weeks trailer.
  17. There's little to work towards though with a random box. I'd like a random box + purchasable items. Especially if the items to buy were the single use stuff like missiles and medi-gel.
  18. There's a wind farm a few miles outside my mums village. Nice view on the way to hers. The only issue with them is the noise they make (had a few trails lead past em), but out in see I've a feeling sound of ocean > sound of windmills. Also damn you region block.
  19. http://www.theverge.com/2012/2/17/2804094/mass-effect-3-razer-accessories-dlc There's some dolls too that you can buy (I think they're about $50 a pop too) to unlock DLC in the game as well.
  20. Did you just respond to 6264 with a copy-paste from Wikipedia? You'd suck at modern schooling if you forget to take out all the citations from your homework. Anyway: Which part aren't you convinced by? Gotta have a pretty rigid stance to not be swayed by a single shred of the millions of years of evidence gathered and analysed over several centuries. I can understand being sceptical of FTL neutrinos because they go against known science and even the scientists themselves are not saying "confirm this" but "point out where we fucked up". But with evolution it's all playing out as predicted. The model is pretty damn sound. Which I guess comes to question two: Which model do you follow? i.e the explantion of how this became this Also what were you taught at school? Did they skip over evolution in science lessons or was it just something that didn't weight too much into marks? (These are things I'm genuinely curious on. I've never met anyone who believes evolution doesn't exist before)
  21. The guy that wants to make a huge golf course resort thing is complaining about wind farms destroying Scotland? As it says they're coastal wind-farms. They're not on scotland. Unlike his golf course resort.
  22. Balllllllssss. So yeah this kinda sucks. The text and voice chat don't work. Now no voice I can live with. But no text chat as even a back-up? That's no fun. I have pull, which means I can pull the riot shields off folks. Unfortunately I couldn't communicate this so folks would just shoot at them, thus pushing the guys out of my range. The store is a bit balls too, and seems there's no way to un-equip power weapons. Which because ammo is one time use on the special weapons and there's no way (that I can see) to directly purchase ammo (there's only lucky dip "Recruit Pack" n "Veteran Pack") you end up having to scroll past a useless weapon. Same works with medi-gel which I didn't expect. So I got to revive myself once. And that's is cos I can't buy medi-gel, only randomly win it. As far as actual game goes, standard wave gameplay. Takes a bit of getting used to the really close third person camera but other than that it's a TPS, you shoot shit, they die. You occasionally ram into them, or pull them from cover. So yeah, I'm not a fan
  23. Because the recent item posted is a 5 minute gameplay trailer full of scripted events...
  24. That should be coming next version. At the moment it's that "Follow Topic" up top. They'll be combined under a unified "Like" system.
  25. Rep system changed, a new simple button for making posts. Still can't get "like" to work on statuses on new forum version though. (was never updated)
