    Rainmeter

http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=119077 Looks pretty nice. Not quite sure if I want to deal with Rainmeter n co again. Bonus I guess is my PC isn't used much for work anymore.
  2. Quite the opposite, from what we've seen the gangs are working together.
  3. You posted sorry in advance right at the end Yeah I was flicking through the BBC news app while out and was kinda shocked to see the folks that have been charged. This isn't just a case of unemployed turning now. It's folks who have realised that the law is largely powerless and they can seemingly get away with anything they want. They'd better stop though cos these aren't powerless. It's just really shitty. I dunno it feels like something has been wanting to happen for a long while. The trigger just doesn't seem right though. Not really sure I can explain it. The gov't/those in power don't seem to completely know how to deal with it either. There's that joke freedom of information request on "how would you deal with zombies" but you wouldn't think you'd have to ask on "how would you deal with mass looters"
  4. Firstly $7 is £4.25 which comes under the whole "if it's £5 I don't have many qualms with it". Once again you're assuming a pirated game is played to completion. (EU release was 22nd) I can dig around my GAME receipts too if you want? (Sup Com also pops up in Steam Transactions but it's down as "Free" as it's a disc bought game) I also pirated n bought DA:O too. I didn't pirate or buy DA2. Buuut: http://dragonage.bioware.com/info/demo Hey guess what! there's a demo! No figure out what I didn't pirate or buy it. An apple costs a few pence. A game can cost many times that. I won't buy a dozen crates of apples without at least some assurances. Once again with the assumptions. And if we want to talk the root of DRM we're really in the wrong thread.

      WTF

Not over yet. We still have some more to do. :) But the cleanup has been going a lot better than expected here. There's still some more at Peckham and Clapham.

Planned riots in the city I live in tonight, which hasn't had anything yet. This is far from over.

  6. Are people still on this assumption that despite many of our difficulties in completing the games we own that we pirate and play games to completion, even when not enjoying them? My personal threshold for "I'll buy it and if it's shit not much lost" is about £5. Which also works well for shitty meals too for folks who apparently buy £40 a pop meals. ("you wouldn't try a meal at a restaurant and decide not to pay for it" argument kinda sucks when you realise the large gap in price) There has been a distinct decline in the availability of demos of late yet the price has still remained at £40. Which is about one of the largest purchases you can make these days without moving onto hardware n furniture. Books are about £6-8, DVDs are about £10, Blu-rays for £13-15, music is £10, games are £40. You can flick through a book in-store(or "look inside" on Amazon), you can hear an album on the radio, watch a film in the cinema/TV. But games, despite demanding a ludicrously high price in comparison, offer little in the way of making a more certain purchase. Reviews aren't much help when 95% of games are above average and trailers don't really do much. Also why the fuck do you think I like Gaikai so much? We'll finally get demos and the publishers actually have the words painted out for them "THIS IS AN ADVERTISEMENT AND MARKETING THING" so they go right along with it. I know EA is currently tooting their horn on the DA2 Gaikia ad they're running right now.
  7. WWWHHHYYYY????? Why do they keep on doing this? Is it so hard to knock up a list of "games this writer is in to". Unless not a single one of them has never played a TES game for more than an hour then I see no reason to put Joel on the case if he hasn't. Also it kinda clashes with this: Oh and this articles reputation precedes it. Already had a fair few moaning about it yesterday, but first time anyone has linked it. Oh and the FPS comment seems to mainly be sheer laziness since he does call it "first-person RPG" earlier on.

Nick Clegg is head of the "Yellow party" (if I told you their name you'd get the wrong idea). They were the deciding team in the last General Election and went with the Tories making a coalition government. He's basically co-prime minister of sorts.

  10. Which would be where you then step in and buy the game...
  11. So I have not finished Fringe. Waiting on Series 4 for September (I believe) All getting very very good. It has definitely gotten into it's stride. First season was very monster-of-the-week type, at least until about half way with Mr Jones. But now it's all getting very arcing n such. Nice build-up, though I'd imagine me watching it in one go is helping. The cast is really good. Especially John Noble with both the mentally unstable Walter Bishop and the semi-totalitarian Secretary Bishop on the other. I kinda wonder how they film the show. Like a block in universe A then a block in universe B then cut together. Or as n when the episode calls for it. Oh and now I'm done with this for now I'm going to go elsewhere.
  12. tastless eh. btw while you cna't see them (no idea why not) the media and spoiler buttons are added to the main bar. Next to the twitter icon.
  13. 1. Do some more googling, then you don't have to pay 2. Most of those paid ones have been removed from Android market now anyway so you can probably find the dev just giving them away on their site. SNESx9 is about all my phone can manage so you won't get many suggestions off me.
  14. I don't think the people that don't enjoy a pirated game actually complete it. I have tons of games I like that I own and have yet to complete, spending my time forcing my way through something I don't like and have no investment in would be an even harder task.
  15. forum posts of "I'm trying to work out problem with product X anyone got any help" couple posts later "No worries I figured out what was wrong" Put down your damn solution in the post too so those who also have your problem, hence a google search brining it up, can use it too.

  17. http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/7468888.page The official word is that Battlefield 3 will not be coming to Steam, but will be coming to all other major digital retailers. (In other news SuperTux will be coming to all major PC OSes, but not Windows) Basically Steams restrictive terms on having the game update automatically and supply DLC through Steam, that every other publisher who hasn't recently started their own DD service have no issues with, are a major pain in the ass for EA establishing a direct connection with customers. Cos I really feel close to the developer when I'm patching my game. There is a significant amount of people who would like to buy the game through Steam. And forcing them onto Origin isn't going to make a closer connection, just resentment. What is in-particular with these restrictions that no other publisher or develop but the one who recently started Origin have issues with?
  18. I watched Night Watch then picked up the book. The book is much much better. The film tickled the side of me that likes flashy visuals, but the book was just way more in-depth, mainly cos films tend to struggle with showing the thoughts going on in the persons head. And Anton has an awful lot of thoughts on the morality of "Light" and "Dark" sides of Others. Still yet to pick up the other books, and I carry on starting n stopping watching Day Watch. Most other films are the other way around, Harry Potter before the films, Discworld before the TV things, Watchmen. There's probably a lot of films/books I've watched n seen that have a film/book it came from that I've not read. I'm wanting to pick up V for Vendetta. I was going to ages ago then a mate said she'd lend me her copy, that never transpired. Oh I did have the Jurassic Park 2 tie-in novel when I was a kid. I remember it being okay. But it heavily relied on you seeing the film.
  19. Thing is thats $2----$6-to-$15-------then--------a-long-way-off----------the-full-$60-games There's like 75% of the price range generally ignored. And that's a large and expensive gap. Especially when not all $60 games are created equally.
  20. So, that Stanley Parable mod thing. Worth grabbing n playing or is it one of those arty farty games?

Oh, I downloaded this before going to bed last ni...ur, this morning. Think I'll give it a run in a bit.

  21. Yeah the extremely flexible pricing structures and business models on PC in recent years just makes console games seem ludicrously expensive. It wouldn't surprise me if the reason for some PC games jumping up to the £40/$60 range recently is so people doing random googling don't find out that console games are kinda expensive in comparison.
  22. Biggest cop-out ever. The snape bit was goood.
