  1. Not really, but I felt it was too good an opportunity to pass up.
  2. Gotta love the server browser. Also upon hitting refresh a couple times I went from 3 servers to 2 then to 1 then I quit MNC which is what I did the other day too. Kind of a major flaw that a primarily MP game kinda has such a fucked up gateway to the world of MP goodness.
  3. http://www.gamasutra...eir_Pirates.php Gamasutra do some good pieces time to time. (well I say time to time. Pretty much all the time, the question is whether it interests you)
  4. http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-02-14-marvel-vs-capcom-3-review EG's MvC3 review. I came across it on my travels and thought some of you may be interested.
  5. Yeah, that'd take Excel 2 months to grab while keeping under the limit As Hakidia said, it's the casual folks it turns off. You can't stop the hardcore pirates, but as long as the casual folks are turned off they'll probably give in and buy your game.
  6. No joke: http://board.pressxordie.com/topic/425-piracy/page__view__findpost__p__31955 I'm thinking the bit about 3D printing may of been in a different thread though. I guess I'm just a tad miffed that settlers of catan stuff was glossed over, so bringing it up again for minor fame
  7. Yeah I beat you on that one, mentioned 3D printers a while back. I think folks kinda skimmed the article. You can pirate Settlers of Catan already.
  8. As in the regular edition comes with proper manual map, dice thingies, err some other stuff. Basically physical items that you can't get off piratebay. If all you care about is the game of course, then it proves no issue. still it's one of the best regular editions I've seen for a very long time.
  9. Yeah I like the "let's make the legit version better for buyers" method over "lets attempt to fuck pirates, while actually fucking legit buyers" method. Witcher 2 has stuff in the regular edition that's unpiratable and on top of that the game is going DRM free. Valve add a fair chunk into their games that make you pick them up legit. I guess it's just easier for them to say it was piracy that meant their game sold shit than to admit it was just a bad game or a shitty port. And even then, good games that don't get pirated can fail. Games pirated to heaven n back can sell millions. The numbers just don't support this concept of piracy being a massive detrimental affect on the industry. And there's certainly nothing to suggest PC is kicking the bucket, especially from piracy. Games that sell shit on PC (especially compared to console counterparts) tend to be stripped down, badly ported games done to make a quick buck on the platform. However you take a bit more time n effort and make the game to work well with kb/m you're usually duly rewarded with good sales and positive reception. It's not a hard concept to grasp.
  10. So I mentioned this on Twitter but I'll point it out here: I've been hoping about the various "places" and it seems that now the initial beta leak is out, folks are starting to fix and improve on the current build we have. The tools are mostly there and there is some very skilled folks out there so I don't reckon they'd struggle to get it working. I know voices were an issue, but if they're there in the files I'd imagine it's possible to attach them into the game. Also it's getting MP added in, Also it has LAN up n running, which from what Iv'e heard the final game won't have (That's always a kicker when you know it's a removed feature). Heck they might even improve the graphics config set up (It seems that while it's simple on the in-game menu, you can tweak the.cfg files for more control) Whether you hate pirates or not you have to appreciate the ingenuity and effort some folks will put into games. Crytek I guess have a month to one up the fans in making the better version of the game. I know the LAN is drawing a fair few folks to grabbing both. And theoretically any additions they put on the beta should be able to be put onto the final build when that's out.
  11. Well it is Brit Pop. There is a point where they start to sound like each other.

    Steam

I guess this is quick becoming the Steam thread. Anywho worth a read: http://www.forbes.co...ine-mayhem.html It also gives sale figures for HL2, which at this moment in time are 6.5million "not including Steam". That article pins it now at 12million, moving it up to 3rd best selling PC game after Sims 1 and Sims 2 (it's kind of on par with Wow, but that's 12million subs and unknown amount of sales) Also in '05 Steam was guestimated to make $77million/year with $55million in profit. We're 5 years on, I think it's making quite a bit more than that, especially since it's valued at $2-4billion. It's basically a history of Valve, things we know and snippets we don't. (e.g I assume most folks know Gabe is/was a Microsoft Millionaire, which is how he could make Valve and keep it independent.) They did gloss over this aspect of Steams creation (well that adds another year onto Episode 3 development. I DON'T REGRET IT ONE BIT!!!) Anyway worth a quick read.
  13. Right moved my stuff across to here then moved this to the Mobile section. Just to hammer this home (Kind of mentioned it to Ethan on Twitter): This isn't the only "Playstation Phone" that will ever exist, nor will there only ever be "Playstation Phones" from Sony Ericsson. Basically the part that makes this the "playstation phone" is the Playstation Suite App, which not only can be on other Androids (Some of which can come with the "Playstation Certified" logo you see in the bottom corner of the Play) but will also be on the NGP and in a later redacted statement on the PS3. So the HTC Gamer is a possibility down the line. Nothing stopping manufacturers making Androids with joypads instead of keypads that slide out. I guess what I'm saying is: If it interests you, hold out. There's better manufacturers than Ericsson for Androids. Or at least hold out on reviews a month down the line to see if they've improved. Still with shit hot powerful Androids creeping out and Sony pushing this concept of phones with buttons it seems iPhone might not hold the gamer phone of choice much loner. Sony have quite a lot of clout and a pretty damn huge library they could exploit to really push this. It's just a question of them really pushing it. They'd have to bite the bullet and encourage other manufacturers to take the leap.
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf5gGwGVaTk Okay this just shuffled on into my current playlist. I've not heard this for ages. I think I'm gonna stick it on repeat, pretty good song.
  15. Oh. It's cos I dumped stuff in the wrong thread I guess. When looking for Phones stuff I went to the Phone section
  16. Time will tell I guess. On most your points actually. Just some we'll have to await longer than a month.
  17. Did Duke just drink a vial of Botox before that? I can't help but feel Gearbox are hoping to ride this one out purely by it being DNF. Also I'm loving that whole "now you're with Gearbox" stuff. We still have no idea how much of it's Gearbox n how much is 3D Realms. From what's been mentioned in the past about 80% of the game was done and I can't see 2K spending a few more dozen million on starting development completely from scratch.
  18. http://deanbmmv.wordpress.com/2011/02/13/sterling-buggers-up-piracy/ I did a more comprehensive write up on my thoughts on the matter. I was wanting to write something and to be frank writing about the Xperia Play was fucking boring, so I ditched it and did this instead. 3 days to write an article on a certain something else though
  19. Not in full but I started on War of the Lions (PSP remake) a couple weeks ago. The person below me is a Will Farrell fan
  20. http://www.destructoid.com/and-you-wonder-why-developers-hate-pc-gamers--193957.phtml Herp Derp Sterling reminding us of his nickname on this great rant about piracy and excellent piece of journalism. Basically uses the Crysis leak as a piracy rant and verging onto Anti-PC gaming rant too just for good measure. Dude dismisses the fact it was an internal leak and any suggestion of console piracy. Anyway he pimps his article from last week, suggest EA should pull Crysis 2 from coming to PC (which when there's a copy of it on the net certainly won't help them at all). He makes a statement that if a game doesn't sell it doesn't get a sequel. See now that one is mostly true. Thing is it has nothing to do with piracy at all. He doesn't directly connect the two, but he doesn't separate the concept that piracy = low sales. Enslaved had low sales despite good reviews, it never came out on PC. So piracy wasn't to blame for sure. (we'll see end of year I guess) In fact most of the heavily pirated games of the past year: http://torrentfreak.com/call-of-duty-black-ops-most-pirated-game-of-2010-101228/ Are the best selling on respective platforms. Which would kinda mean piracy = high sales*. Not that any publisher would want to come out with that line. As for Crysis: http://torrentfreak.com/top-10-most-pirated-games-of-2008-081204/ Pirated 0.9million, sold 3million. (also how times have changed that they don't just track only PC games these days huh) Also he says he's fine with DRM, basically saying folks deserve it (Sony Firmware updates too), reasons that games are consolized due to piracy and that the PS3 will go the same way as the PC (ignoring 360 piracy that's been around for years) *Except Alan Wake which was pirated ever so slightly more copies than it sold. Wonder if it'd of fared better on it's original platform? tl;dr: Please don't read, it'll give Jim the satisfaction of hits.
  21. http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/the-sony-ericsson-xperia-play/ http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/sony-ericsson-touts-xperia-play-multiplayer-gaming-promises-50/ http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/13/live-from-sony-ericssons-mwc-2011-press-event/ Short n skinny: Comes preloaded with a PSone game. No idea what, just it's "legendary" (Spyro?) It'll have 50 games at launch from 20 publishers Comes March to Verizon Does hotspot wi-fi gaming It seems some Android games are being ported to work with the buttons. Unsure if they're separate versions. I still reckon they're messing up a bit by using a now underpowered phone. But I guess if it'll run the games without a hitch it makes the phone cheaper and more available. I can see this as the start of something good, cos Playstation Suite isn't limited to just the Play so any android manufacturer can get in on the action.
  22. Public opinion says they'd have to. If they didn't it'd look like they're further brushing the fact the change is so disliked under the rug.
  23. I can't remember ever playing any at least. Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Sam & Max Hit the road yeah? The person below me is not from Western Hemisphere
  24. Not just amongst, iirc it was the top pirated game of '07. sold a tasty 3million copies though.
  25. In regards to Crysis 2 you may be giving them a bit too much credit. They've not really pushed much with this release. Certainly nothing like the first, though most of those high requirements was bad optimisation, but at least it was made up for in beautiful vistas. Crysis 2 not so much. There's been plenty of games since Crysis that's pushed the boundaries, but because Crysis was so infamous for it it seems no ones bothered to look much at other games. I've not played myself to say first hand, but Metro 2033 has gained quite the reputation. Just not a huge seller or strong marketing to get that out there. As I've said earlier in the thread I wouldn't be too surprised, especially regarding Cryteks comments of late regarding PC development, if this was a purposeful leak to give them a scapegoat to go console only. With PC there's expectations on them to be pushing boundaries, not so much on console. They're clearly aiming to make CE3 the next Unreal Engine, and UE gets its primary use through consoles. Oh and one clear difference between the first n second:
