Maybe playing it alone makes it a little more bearable but try to see things from my perspective. I had never finished the original game so I had no idea what to expect or what the DLC even was until someone told me which part of the game wasn't originally there. Now, I had built up Adam with a whole lot of praxis points into a hacking/assault specialist, and I had accordingly adjusted my gameplay style to account for that.
DLC starts and whoops, there go all my upgrades. They give you a few points, sure, but not nearly enough to get me back to the way I was. Oh yeah, and for a while all your guns are gone too. I fucking hate when games do that. I might have mentioned that in the tropes that need to go thread, but if not I'm gonna mention it here: I hate when games have a level where you're captured and all your gear is taken away, forcing you to do the stealth approach. You get it back eventually, but not all the ammo that you've been saving. You don't get that back until the very end when you've already done everything.
The design of the whole area just felt weak to me, too. Too many corridors and not enough open areas. There was also too much backtracking.
Finally, the boss. Oh my god, I hated this boss so much, and because I was low on ammo and didn't have the upgrades I was used to it probably took me 20 god damn tries to beat that room. To put it simply, they were pushing late game difficulty on a character with mid-game power at best. Maybe their intention was for it to be harder, but I don't like it when the difficulty of a game suddenly spikes out of nowhere.
Oh yeah, and the story that happens on the ship is completely pointless. In case anyone hasn't played it I won't say what happens, but you have played it and you do know what happens and you also know that it has no effect whatsoever on the rest of the game. That might not be jarring if you play it standalone, but I was playing the Director's Cut so they integrated it right into the main storyline, then never bring it up again after it's over.
If you enjoyed it, I'm glad, but I easily found it to be the weakest part of the entire game.
