  1. Laptop HDD, external 1TB HDD, and router all go simultaneously while my computer gets attacked by an unnamed party. Oh, and my car muffler is about to fall off. I should try not to leave the house for a few days, lest I be struck by lightning.

I hate it when that shit happens. That's why I downloaded Threatfire and set it to Nazi mode.

Dam, I realized I broke the status column with my long-ass post...

Is Threatfire something that you find preferable to other virus software, or is it something that works in cooperation with AV?

I really should just look my own info up..

  2. I don't see it that way personally, it seems like a very small percentage of the library is getting the re-release treatment, so I don't think it was a tactic to get people to buy stuff they could already play. From what I understood at the time, removal of the EE was one of the major contributing factors in lowering the production cost of the PS3. I think they're pretty cool personally, as long as they make sense, which to me means that they were visual achievements of the time that would look even worse than their age upscaled on an HDTV. I also believe some of these last-gen games being HD-ified would actually make them look worse than their age, once big & shiny new TVs show how little visual detail is in them to begin with. I'm looking at you Prince of Persia. Then again I'd buy a Katamari Damacy & We <3 Katamari bundle in a heartbeat if it were to release in HD. To each their own I guess.
  3. I'm a former FFXIV junkie, so I'm hoping it will be somewhat easy for me to get assimilate. If I like it I'll probably wind up subbing, as I'm well aware of my packrat nature and will probably be hurting for space quickly. Believe it or not people have already been complaining that the free players don't get to unlock trophies. It seems fair to me but whatever.
  4. I picked this one up for $65 on a pre-order sale. I don't have anything else to compare it to, but for my first (simulated) surround headset experience I have to say it's downright delicious. I've only played Deus Ex and Bleach with them on so far, and only the former gave me a real chance to test the surround-muscle of the thing. It worked exactly as I expected, providing a solid sense of direction for all of the sounds in the game, and adding an overall sense of aural depth to the game, even when going in and out of menus. I certainly have much more real appreciation for the work that goes into the sound of the game now. I haven't gotten to try the mic outside of the XMB test, but if the quality in there was any indication then it sounds better than anything I've used before it, including the official bluetooth headset. On of my favorite features is the ability to mute without having some incessant beep repeatedly reminding me that I'm not being heard, as with every bluetooth headset I've tried (including the official one). It's lighter than it looks, fits very comfortably around the ear, and has easily accessible controls. A charge seems to last about 6 hours from my limited experience so far, and it charges via USB cable (not included). The only complaint I have about the physical design of it is the fact that the USB port is on the opposite side of the mic, so it can't be comfortably laid down flat on a surface. Minor complaint, but still silly. I don't know that I'd pay $100 for a headset, but it certainly was worth the $65 I paid.
  5. From the Playstation Blog I've come close to buying this a couple of times and I'm so glad I didn't. It looks like they are keeping their subscription model in the form of premium accounts, only with a lower tier that costs $5 a month in addition to the $15 "legendary" offering. It beats the hell out of paying $40 for a disc just to find out if you like the game at all in the first place.
  6. I'm sure these thing will start becoming more popular as word of mouth spreads the idea. It really is such a brilliant idea, I'm surprised I haven't been hearing about more of these for years. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
  7. Reminds me of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hhmn5VR7DY Ok now that I've referenced Hicks for like the 10th time on this forum.... I'd agree that when news talks about gaming it's usually negative. That in itself wouldn't be that much of a bother to me, as the nature of news reporting is such that many things are only worth mentioning if there is a negative quality to one aspect or other of a story. The problem when it comes to "stories" relating to games is that they are almost always inaccurate and negative. Nobody involved in the process of getting it from someone's ear to the public's TV seems to have a clue about anything to do with the game world, yet these stories go off half-cocked with incorrect or misused information trying to portray a situation as something much bigger (and always worse) than it is, if it's even a real situation at all. They spread their ignorance of the gaming world/community a little more every time they try to talk about it. It makes me wonder. I'm (ashamed to admit I am) generally ignorant about most things that don't have to do with art in some way, shape, or form. If I'm noticing how clueless the media seems to be about something like gaming, I wonder how badly they misrepresent other events and stories that relate to economics, (especially international) politics, science, and other actual important issues that people rely on news outlets for. Then again I suppose if I cared all that much I'd not be so ignorant about these issues myself... Still though, it doesn't seem right, and kind of concerns me.
  8. Just a heads up because it was so awesome last year that Halloween can't come soon enough this year, and I just can't hide my excitement. I will have some seriously retarded pics coming on 11/1/11. It's two bands for me this year, maybe even three! The Cure is the solid one, and the additional one(s) will be The Clash and/or Green Day (of the mid-late 90's). Still ironing that out. As long as these shows keep happening every year, Halloween is my new favorite Holiday.
  9. Wow, thank you very much! Not only for listening (to the whole thing too!), but for some great feedback, which actually happened to touch on several of my concerns about the show. In particular the length, and the amount of non-gaming talk. It's hard enough to get people to listen to a talk show, but when it's about gaming and there are 1,000 others around, a lengthy show can certainly be offputting. I know it is for me. In the end it kind of falls in the same category of decision as the one to deliberately not talk gaming all the time, which is to say we're trying to figure out how to walk some sort of an awkward line between putting on a show that is reasonably accessible and (hopefully) enjoyable, while having a good time flapping our stupid gums. We do tread some dangerous ground with the decision to not adhere to a strict topic schedule. It helps in that it keeps things flowing naturally, but the downside is that it leaves the door wide open for rambling and meandering discussions. We're actively working on our approach though, and hopefully can improve as we move along. Anyway, I won't bring it up in here anymore, as I don't want to derail more than I already have. Thanks again, I really appreciate that. I'm still new at this, so hearing good things makes me less panicky (which I totally am about the whole thing haha), and bad things can potentially help it improve. And for the record, I would love for Nintendo to get me back in bed with them. It's part of why I'm so irritated by the way they've been conducting their home-console game. I know I came off as hating them and/or wanting them to fail, but it's really the anger of a friend who feels like he's been ditched for a different crowd. I truly hope they shape their shit up (or my personal idea of "shaping shit up") in time for the next home-console gen.
  10. Apprehensive about sharing my podcast with the internet. I'm not sure what's going to be worse, being shit on or being ignored... Either way, trying to keep the skin thick.

Thank you! I posted it in the 3DS price drop thread, but if I'm gonna whine about it here I may as well link it haha.

  11. I've been trying to figure out the best way to introduce this to this forum, and the conclusion I came to was to share it when there is a topic on it relevant to a forum topic. I originally wanted to post in the thread for the TAY (at the time) podcast, as it was something I was interested in participating in, but that seems to be on hiatus. This is the podcast I've been doing for a couple of months. We get on the 3DS analog topic, eventually. Skip to around 83:00 (today's show was longer than usual) for the 3DS talk. I have to add this sort-of disclaimer: I'm not at all into pimping shit I do. You'll hear me mention this on this episode if you listen to the part where we discuss my bartending gig. It makes me kind of bad at promoting any projects I'm involved in, whether it be a band, independent film, or podcast. I don't like feeling like a salesman, especially when it comes to my friends and friendly acquaintances. For that reason, while I've posted the show on a few other sites, I've been very hesitant to do it here, as this is a community that I have a great deal of respect for. I know my post frequency would seem to indicate otherwise, but it is the case. The idea of going from a regular participator to that annoying guy who tries to hawk his garbage is one I find revolting. For that same matter of respect though, this is also the place I've been most excited to share the show when the time came. Whether anyone who listens enjoys it, or hates my guts for wasting their time, any feedback I get would be appreciated for the time taken out to listen. Feel free to shit all over our heads if you think we suck. Anyway, I apologize. I just had to share.
  12. Absolutely. Pick Up the Pieces is classic too. I've been hoping for some time we'd get a new funk pack in RB, but unfortunately the rate/quantity they have been releasing songs at since MTV sold Harmonix has slowed down to the point where the more niche stuff seems less likely now. It's a damn shame.
  13. Holy crap that is so weird, I was just going to post that within the last few days, but didn't get around to it at an appropriate time. Such an awesome jam. Anyway, between this: and Funk #49, I think tonight is going to have to be a Rock Band night when I finally get back home.
  14. Current rotation: Spider Man : Shattered Dimensions Bleach : Soul Resurrection Deus Ex : Human Revolution All those colons! I should point out that Shattered Dimensions is really cool. Borderline awesome. The reason I think I should point it out, is the previous Spidey titles of this gen were (according to ratings anyway) sub-par. I didn't play those, but I'm very glad I bargain-binned this one from Gamefly. It's rough, as it's going up against Arkham City in terms of release dates, but I'm going to make a point of getting around to the new Spider Man game coming out next month ASAP. Oh, and Bleach is fan-serving me into bliss. Even though the actual series stinks lately.
  15. I feel so guilty. I got this guest bartending gig next week, and I just invited a bunch of people, including people I don't keep in touch with that often lately.... I'm officially that guy. God I hate myself right now.

You have to learn to accept that people are incredibly short-minded. I crack jokes about people forgetting what they ate for breakfast by the time it hits noon...

Only for people to follow through on it.

  16. @Hot Heart Good call on Falling Down, in my opinion half that film belongs in here. DON'T CLICK THIS if you haven't seen Ip Man and don't want (arguably) the best fight scene spoiled. Also, shame on you, go watch it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=67JEGYJGRjw
  17. It's a shame I'm not much of a Hendrix fan, half the charm of this album is probably lost on me. Regardless, it sounds so fuckin strong. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hWj0-CMP4ZU&feature=related
  18. Well, well, well, my old nemesis. I'd forgotten you, you know. In fact, I still don't remember you, or even what it was about. I just remember Gunflame's star post really bothered me and several people got in a tiff about it. Sorry! But NOW we are nemeses again! Clearly! It must be so! Oh, it is so fuckin on. I don't remember what it was about prior to the Gunflame post, but it must of annoyed me because I didn't usually remember avatars/names like that, and I managed to recall that it was someone with a Snake (or something I thought was Snake at the time) avatar just the other day haha. What timing for your joining though, small internet, eh? *sigh* The old days of kotaku essay-fighting. Seems like longer ago than it actually is...... There were a lot of people on you for that Gunflame thing, but you certainly weren't alone in your opinion either, I remember. Must've been pretty damn provocative. Oh well, good times.
  19. It may have been me. I really hated the one that got Gunflame starred, which is odd, because generally, I like Gunflame, even if I do disagree with him more regularly than I do with others. Son of a bitch, it is you. It's coming back to me now, I think that the two of us butted heads several times within a short span, the tail end of which was Gunflame's starring. I remember seeing your post there and thinking "Fuck, does this guy do anything but break balls?!" I'm pretty sure that on my end I didn't take issue with your opinion (in at least one of those arguments), but the manner in which you chose to express it. It was one of the rare times I got genuinely annoyed in someone else's defense. Fuck, I'm almost tempted to go back there and dig. It's not that important though, it was a good (frustrating) time that has passed. Welcome to the forum! But you're still a jerk
  20. Gunflame.... I distinctly remember having an argument with some jerk who was bitching about the post that got you starred, or maybe the fact of the starring. For the life of me I can't remember who it was, but I know that it wasn't the first time in a short period that he got on my fucking nerves with his miserable attitude.... I feel like he had a Solid Snake avatar... Oh well, no use conjuring old and crotchety spirits (thought it would be funny if I have been posting in the same threads as him on here without realizing). Welcome to the forum! If anyone goes back recruiting, see if Shinta can't be persuaded to jump ship. While not exactly "friends" with anyone on Kotaku, there were a few posters I saw eye-to-eye with very frequently, and Shinta was at the top of that list. It was downright eerie how often I was saved from typing a long paragraph on Kotaku because the sentiment had already been expressed (often more competently than I would have been capable of conveying it) by Shinta. Be nice to have that one around to shoot the shit with again.
  21. Let's see some editor defection, then we'll talk *edit* Oh, and welcome to all the shiny, angry, new people!
  22. Looks like September for that DLC. Now that I have a general date, I'm pretty eager to fire it up again.
  23. The 2nd grade teacher approach is what all the hip writers are taking nowadays, you hadn't heard?
