  1. Yeah, I love the enthusiasm on GAF but holy shit do a lot of them lack the basic common sense that should come with it. As for SEGA's expectations, that's a good question. I think they should be fairly realistic. They've been in the PC market for a while now and have a lot of titles on Steam. I mean, if even Square Enix and their batshit insane, out-of-touch-with-reality sales expectations can be satisfied enough to do a late port of FFXIII, then surely SEGA can be pleased too.
  2. Yeah, this is admittedly a very weird choice for a port. Especially considering that Vanquish uses the same engine as Metal Gear Rising, which is already on PC, while this is running on some weird PS3-centric engine. But I think there's definitely an audience for VC on PC. It is a turn-based strategy game, after all. And, more importantly, this makes me very optimistic that Vanquish is also coming.
  3. Holy shit, coming to PC!! https://twitter.com/SEGA/status/526884918677471232 Someone move this to multiplat, I guess. You nerds better fucking buy it this time. This game is seriously so good. If it flops a second time, heads will roll.
  4. Yeah, that's the key element here. If SO sells as well as it reviews, I can see them doing everything they can to hold on to it. I am going to enjoy that pizza. Yeah, tbh I'm shocked Microsoft even agreed to let them keep IP ownership. I guess they were desperate for an exclusive? Either way, good for them. This looks like the best game Insomniac has made in quite a while.
  5. Yeah, I know that but doesn't that just mean Insomniac can do whatever they want when it comes to sequels? I mean, I'd expect that having funded development would grant Microsoft some kind of control over at least this one game. For example, which platforms it can come out on. I think that PC is definitely possible but I seriously doubt PS4 is. Maybe a sequel but not this one.
  6. I honestly don't see that happening since Microsoft completely funded the game's development (unlike Dead Rising 3 and Ryse). I really hope I'm wrong, though, because if Sunset Overdrive does come to PC, that means there's a very good chance Quantum Break also will.
  7. Just this morning I got a promo email from GamersGate and realized how unfortunate of a name that is considering recent events. And now we have this: https://twitter.com/Totalbiscuit/status/525286044829499392 Just...wow. How much stupider can this bullshit actually get?

Best bit is that they cc'd (rather than bcc'd) everyone. So now all those email addresses are public. Good work.

  8. Yeah, that's why I wanted to pay for the rental as opposed to just downloading it. I'll probably grab it on DVD or whatever at some point, too.
  9. I really wasn't sure in which thread to put this one but I watched Angry Video Game Nerd: The Movie tonight. I decided on this one because I actually enjoyed it. It's fucking awful but if you like the AVGN videos then you'll most likely get some enjoyment out of it. I certainly don't regret the five bucks I paid to rent it on Vimeo. Hell, I spent more on movies that were significantly less entertaining. It's a decent way to kill two hours.
  10. Assassin's Creed III. ... HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Holy shit, what the fuck was that?! I am so glad I don't give a shit about the series anymore because oh my God, that ending would've been insulting. Anyway, shitty ending aside, I kind of had a blast with the game! I hadn't touched the series since replaying 1 through Brotherhood right before ACIII came out, so this was my first new AC in like 3 years. Felt good to be back. At first I figured I'd just play through the story and leave it at that. I was only playing this one because I felt I had to if I wanted to get Black Flag once I get my PS4. But I actually ended up doing almost everything in the game. Collect-a-thons, side-missions, challenges, etc. Only got a few challenges left to do and I'll probably try to get those done tonight. Also, I had heard about the communication issues that plagued this game's development but man. Holy disjointed game, Batman. Everything is so compartmentalized, it really shows that the work was split up between different studios all over the planet. The ship stuff was a ton of fun but there's barely any of it in the main campaign. I only found out there were a bunch of naval side-missions like halfway through the damn game. The Homestead missions were alright but again, most of it felt rather inconsequential. The crafting menu was a chore to navigate and I ended up ignoring all the convoy shit because of it. Didn't seem worth the hassle for what little amount of money it earned me. And this one's probably because I wasn't paying attention, but I also realized pretty late that I could still send my assassins on missions and level them up. But once again, much like everything else, it felt kind of half-assed. It wasn't done as well as in Brotherhood. Nothing happened when they reached max level. And this leads me to my one major complaint about Connor's story. Remember when these games were about an actual brotherhood of Assassins and their struggle against the Templars? Man, those were the days! I didn't really have an issue with Connor himself (apparently a lot of people disliked him? I mean, he was no Ezio but still)) but he never really felt like an Assassin to me, he was just handed a cool-looking suit by an old black guy. I never got the impression that he was part of (or actually cared about) any sort of secret organization. He just wanted revenge on people that just happened to be Templars. Other than the modern days stuff, I feel like they could've dropped the entire Assassins vs Templars thing and the game would've literally been unchanged. So yeah, while the game was really fun to play, overall I can't say I'm impressed. That being said, now I cannot fucking wait to play Black Flag! The ship missions were by far the best parts of the game. So having a game not only centered around that but also about motherfucking pirates? Yes, please!
  11. Yeah, this is the impression I've been getting as well, especially based on what we know of Activision's approach to licensed games. It's unfortunate but I think Platinum simply weren't given the time to polish the game. That last sentence has pretty much convinced me to get the game anyway, though. I love Platinum's boss fights. I should probably get around to catching up on the show first, though...
  12. You mean you can take him seriously otherwise? Anyway, pre-ordered myself a worthless Vita game. SRPG spin-off of the Hyperdimension Neptunia series. I would've been interested anyway because of how much I liked Re;Birth. But this being an SRPG, I think I'm actually more excited for this one than for Re;Birth 2.
  13. See, you say that but I lost interest in Gravity Rush like 4 hours in. I've been meaning to give it another shot, though. I'm tempted to get a physical copy both to free up space on my memory card and to make myself feel obligated to prioritize it. It's pretty cheap and I don't like being digital for retail games anyway.
  14. I'm tempted to get one, if only so I can play stuff on the living room TV on the rare occasions it's free. I wouldn't bother actually moving a console just for a couple hours but having that thing already set up sure would be nice. Of course, I need to get a PS4 first. I don't really feel the need to play Vita games on a big screen.
  15. Cool. How is Burst? I don't own a 3DS so I had to settle on watching the anime. It did a decent job getting me up to speed on the story but it only focused on the Hanzo side of things. I'll be getting a 2DS to play Persona Q in a few weeks so I might check it out then.
  16. Just got home and my copy was waiting on my desk. Can't wait to give it a shot tonight. Amazon was being slow with shipping and I started hearing stories of people getting their delivery estimates delayed by entire months and some even had their orders cancelled. So, I got nervous and ordered from EBGames yesterday. Lucky for me they still had copies in stock, Amazon pretty much stopped taking orders on release day. I don't think I'll ever pre-order anything remotely limited with them again.
  17. You're quoting me directly but you keep interpreting what I said in ways that completely ignore the context, so you're essentially putting words in my mouth. Replying as if I was implying things that I wasn't. And for the last fucking time: No. I was never commenting on the Unity 900p thing. Here is the whole tangent my post is from: Maybe you're SOL but I don't give a shit. Even if I knew for a goddamned fact that my hypothetical PS4 could get a whole extra p (or 200!) out of the game, I don't let that shit get in the way of my enjoying the game. Simple as that. I'm not gonna go nuts just because Ubisoft's PR got drunk this week and let them say stupid shit. So you were refuting some completely meaningless detail then? Noted. All that meant was that my point stands because this conversation is the same regardless of where it's happening because it's the same segment of the market that's having it. I would imagine that the majority of people that are buying a £350+ console within a year of launch are the tech-savvy enthusiasts, most early adopters are. It's a big explainer for the difference between Xbox One and PS4 sales, if it was purely just a popularity contest the Xbox One would have more than likely carried on the success of the 360. But the launch blunders of the Xbox One that only "tech savvy gaming enthusiasts" would care for seem to have impacted it a fair bit. Oh, they're definitely in there. But the PS4 has sold a lot more units than even Sony anticipated at this point. I've seen a bunch of articles about how a sizable chunk of the PS4 userbase are first-time PlayStation users. Like this one. 10 million units is a lot of systems out there for a console not yet a full year old. I think that leaves plenty of room for lots of PS4 owners who are more relaxed about this stuff. Also, the Xbox One blunder was nowhere near as insignificant as stupid resolution drama. If it had been, Microsoft would've never done that 180 as fast as they did. They knew they were in big trouble. If they had thought they could get away with it, they definitely would have stuck to their guns. See Ubisoft's current PR shitstorm. They don't give a fuck, they know Unity's going to sell as well as all the previous AC games. I've already addressed the word twisting above. As for the calling you crazy bit, sorry, I'm not trying to insult you. It's just frustrating to be repeatedly quoted out of context and have to reiterate my actual points every damn time. Feels like arguing with a wall and, frankly, it makes your posts come off as kind of schizophrenic. It's like you're mixing an imaginary discussion into the one we're actually having. And it's not like I don't see the issue with lower performance and parity downgrades and what not. It sucks but I just think it's absolutely insane the way people lose their fucking shit over that stuff. So yeah, I think devs have the right idea to ignore this batshit crazy minority. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's fine, but I do think it's simply not that big of a deal. So long as the game is playable (which I mostly define as a solid 30 FPS), then whatever, I bought a console to play some damn video games knowing full well that I'd have an inferior experience.
  18. Wrong. My post that you initially quoted wasn't about that at all. It was a direct response to GOH's off-topic comment that "console ownership is more annoying than either Uplay or Origin". Maybe make sure you have a proper grasp of what a conversation is about before you start cherry picking things to reply to in completely unrelated threads? And my stance on this is that a game running at a solid 30 FPS at a resolution close to 1080p is hardly being SOL. If I buy a console as my primary gaming platform (as I'll be doing in a few short months), then yeah, I'm not going to be expecting every single game to be 1080p60. Because I'm not a fucking idiot, I know that's completely unrealistic. Not good enough for you? Play on your damn PC, then. That's what I'd be doing if I could afford a new build. In the meantime, I'll gladly grab a PS4 and play on that. The games won't be any less enjoyable. *Sigh* "like NeoGAF and such" were my exact words. This place really isn't all that different in regards to what kind of gamers frequent it. NeoGAF is just much, much bigger. Not sure what you thought you were refuting here. And the sales thing was just an extension of my point that those who feel strongly about this are the minority. Because that's what the initial conversation was actually about: the majority of people not being the same kind of tech-savvy gaming enthusiasts you find on the internet. Hence the whole trading performance for convenience thing. Goddamn man, you're fucking exhausting to deal with. If you keep twisting my words to try and pry nonexistent arguments out of them, then I'm just not gonna bother replying to you any more. It's worth neither the time nor the energy. I'm starting to have flashbacks of a certain crazy person that briefly visited us over the summer...
  19. Lol. What? I never said anything of the sort. My point was that your claim that "if a game runs slow on your console, you're shit out of luck" was kind of an exaggeration. And I never said anything about positives or negatives. Once more: I'm not saying console gaming is better than PC Gaming. That was never the point of the conversation you initially quoted from and I'm not interested in such a pointless argument. You mean that conversation that's only taking place in enthusiast circles like NeoGAF and such? Yeah, that's a very small segment of the market. Do you seriously believe the resolution and framerate of ACU on consoles is going to have any kind of impact on its sales? I sure as hell don't, not for an IP this big. And I never said "no one cares", I said "most people don't care". I'm starting to think you're intentionally twisting my words, here. :/
  20. DLC character. So, not only is Ultimax the first fighting game I ever pay full launch price for, I'm pretty sure it's the first time I ever buy a DLC character, too. Funny what actually caring about the story and characters does.
  21. Maybe it's too early for me to be on the internet because I had to re-read that a couple times to really get what you were trying to say. I'm getting the sense that maybe you misunderstood me or perhaps my tone came across wrong because I wasn't putting anyone down or trying to criticize either PC gaming or console gaming. You are absolutely correct that PC gaming is for those who want to go further, I thought that was the indirect implication of my posts. I was saying that console gaming, with all its simplicity and easy of use, is for those that don't want to do that. Well, I don't think there's any need for something remotely close to an FOV slider in terms of options on consoles but yeah, we've already seen an example of something like this in The Last of Us: Remastered. The game offers the option to run at 30 FPS with some fancy effects (I think it's mostly shadows) or 60 FPS without. There's really no need for any kind of advanced tweaking beyond something basic like that, though, because the hardware is the same in every single machine. They can essentially tweak your game for you and, in some cases, probably get a little bit more out of the hardware than you normally could. edit: Same here. I think dean quoting us here from the other thread caused some unintended implication. Like I said in my original reply, it's a little out of context from the original conversation.
  22. You know what's an actual falsehood? Claiming that PC gaming and console gaming are equally complex. That's just downright false. A game isn't going to "run slow" on your console. It's going to run slow on all the consoles. Like I said, you trade performance for convenience. So, barring any kind of Skyrim PS3 situation (i.e. a completely broken product), console games are generally going to be reasonably optimized for the specific hardware in your machine. Reasonable performance with none of the hassle. Believe it or not, most people don't give that much of a shit about performance or framerates. An increasing number of people just want to play the Call of Halos on their X-Station, man. They couldn't give less of a shit about installing drivers and apps to tweak their shit for them.
  23. Just to be clear, I wasn't arguing that consoles are better because of the convenience or anything like that. I was responding to the specific claim that console ownership is more annoying, which made no sense to me. So replying to my post in this other thread feels kind of out of context. But whatever, like Ethan said, those apps are an imperfect solution at best. And even with the hassle they remove, they're still another superfluous step between you and playing the game. Personally, I'll always choose to directly fiddle with game settings over using an app like that. If settings tweaking sounds so horrible to someone that they'd rather use an app like this, they're probably better off getting a console, no?
  24. And it's not like it's just that either. Gaming on PC requires significantly more efforts than on console. Even before you start having to tweak settings there's redundant DRM layers to juggle, then there's drivers and hardware issues and what not. I mean, don't get me wrong, if I could afford to build a 2000$ gaming PC tomorrow I'd do it in a heartbeat. But with a console, you trade performance for convenience. You just pop in your disc and can jump in right away with no extra steps required on your part. So, GOH's comment about console ownership being more annoying makes no sense whatsoever to me. I'm not sure how to interpret it other than "hurrr master race". Care to elaborate, Mr. GOH?
