Done! My gut tells me it's gonna be WWII era. Can't wait to find out if I'm right! I love how the thread subtitle is still a reference to Brotherhood. Hanging out in forum chat while playing ACB multiplayer with people from here was pretty damn fun. We also played a lot of Uncharted 2 MP and we were fucking unbeatable. Fun times.

I'm actually pretty curious about that infamous ending. I've always been in the minority in that I actually enjoy the modern days stuff. I was pretty fucking hyped to see the end of the Desmond storyline two years ago. Shit, I even replayed the entire series up to Brotherhood in anticipation of ACIII. And now that I've remembered doing that, I'm kind of irritated that I'm going to be playing the game two fucking years later...

Just Ubisoft's trademark lack of optimization. Either that or their system requirements were complete bullshit because I met the recommended ones but it still turned into a fucking slideshow the second I set foot in Boston. It was a pretty common issue around launch, a lot of people whose rig should've been able to handle the game were unable to play. A GPU upgrade later and it's still unplayable on mine. To this day I still pirate Ubisoft's PC releases to test them first before spending my money on them, just to make sure I don't get screwed again.

You know what Ubisoft? Fuck you. You stole my 70 bucks with your unplayable garbage of a PC version and now you're getting an extra 10. So, you win. You win and fuck you. I was really hoping it would get on PS+ but I don't see it happening at this point. I'm saving up for a PS4 and when I get one in a few months I'll definitely want to play Black Flag so there's no way around it, I need to finally play this.

Lol. Believe it or not, it's pretty restrained in that regard. Someone actually buying this for the fan service is going to be very disappointed.

Akiba's Trip: Undead & Undressed. Finished it this afternoon. I was planning on trying to juggle both this and Danganronpa 2 but I ended up getting completely sucked into DR2 so Akiba's was put on hold for a while there. I only went back to finish it this week-end. To say that this game is weird is putting it mildly. The story isn't garbage or anything like that but it's not very deep or elaborate either. It's also kinda short, my clear save said 10 hours but easily more than half of that time was spent on side-missions. It's very much a "pick up and play" kinda game where the missions are pretty short and you're meant to play it in short bursts whenever you have a few minutes to kill. In that regard, it's kinda weird that they bothered making a PS4 version (although the Vita version does suffer from pretty intense pop-in on the NPCs so it's certainly nice that they did). There's some replay value, though. At one point you get locked into a character path which each lead to their own endings. I'll definitely check those out when I have more time and less games to play. Anyway, the setting and combat are the two main things the game has going for it. The setting in particular was the best part of the game for me, it just felt so authentic. It was kind of awesome early on to be running around only to stop because "wait, that song's kinda familiar". I'd look around and yep, Disgaea 4 trailer playing on the huge screen across the street. This is going to feel dated fairly quickly (it already did a little bit) but the in-game ads and licensed music were put to great use here. The atmosphere it really great, especially if you're into anime/otaku culture. Then there's the combat. Overall, it's really fun and incredibly ridiculous to see in action. Unfortunately it's not the most refined gameplay-wise. Your move set lacks any sort of crowd-control ability so, while your attacks can and will hit more than one enemy at a time, you're still just aiming for one and it can get problematic when fighting very large groups. Your attacks can end up not going where you wanted them to and it can get pretty frustrating. Especially when it gives an opening to half a dozen enemies to just start wailing on you and there's little you can do break out of it. It only happened a handful of times throughout the game but it was frustrating enough that I feel it needs to be mentioned. So yeah, if the game looks like you might enjoy it then you most likely will. What you see is what you get, for better or worse. I don't know if I'd necessarily recommend it at full price but I certainly don't regret my purchase either. It's rough around the edges but there's a lot of fun to be had here.

So, is this the first time that a year's GOTY has been decided before the year even begins? I mean, I seriously doubt anyone is going to top an eye patch-wearing dog.

Here's some info translated from a Famitsu interview Interesting that they note it started out more action-oriented but mention that it has changed. It sounds like the entire game has changed quite a bit, really. I wonder if it was significantly scaled back. The director change is fairly recent and it sounds like it isn't too far off anymore. Also, open-world + manually driving sounds weird as hell for a FF but it could be kind of awesome.

Went for it. I'd like to play it in the near future and doing it on my PC isn't really an option. I was kind of hoping it would get on PS+ but whatever, it's only 10 bucks.

I'm okay with both visual styles but since I already own the PSP one and it includes that After Years sequel thing, I might as well play that one first. I really need to finally play FFIV all the way through, though. I've played through most of it a few times by now but never actually finished it. I'm pretty sure one time I was at the final dungeon or at least very close to it. RE6 is really tempting at that price. I already own it on Steam but I'm unable to play it for now because of hardware fuckery. My GPU's driver does not seem to like that game one bit. I kept getting the weirdest crashes when I tried playing it.

Bought with my GMG credit, which I got from Playfire rewards, so essentially for free. I've had like 36 bucks of credit accumulated since early in the summer and every single game I've planned to use it on so far has ended up not being available on GMG. Latest example would be Wasteland 2. Officially out of early access today but still nowhere to be seen on their website. I'd been meaning to use it on a bigger purchase but fuck it, no point holding onto that credit forever. I'm kinda tempted to also get FFIV but I think I'll stick with the old school 2D version I have on my Vita for now.

Lol. It looks fucking identical based on this. Wonder what they're gaining by skipping PS3. Oh well, hopefully that means a Vita version will still be possible.

Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair. Finished it late last night. I had often heard that it was significantly better than the original so I was really looking forward to playing it. Now, I kinda feel like that was a massive exaggeration. It's certainly not inferior to the original but I'm still not sure whether I liked it more or the same. I figured letting it sink in overnight might help but I'm still not sure either way. It's clearly superior in a few key areas but it's also kinda worse in others. Some of the characters didn't seem as interesting or memorable to me. Maybe the original benefits from being my introduction to the game's world but I dunno, it just seems like its cast was more interesting overall. Then there's the class trial minigames. I started typing specifics but it quickly devolved into a long rant that probably would've made no fucking sense whatsoever to anyone that hasn't played the game. So let's leave it at: a couple of them were improved, most of them were either bad additions or existing ones made worse. It doesn't get much more ironic than calling a minigame "The (Improved) ________" only for it to be unarguably worse than the original version. All that being said, where the game really does shine is, much like the original, the story. The murders were all pretty interesting and the methods and culprits were much less predictable than in the first game. I don't think I was able to guess one outright a single time, I'd usually only figure out the killer's identity at the same time as the characters, at the very end of their deduction. That was a nice improvement compared to the original where halfway through a class trial I'd usually just go "oh, yeah okay, that's what happened" and I'd rarely be wrong. And then there's Chapter 6. Holy shit, that felt like it came out of fucking nowhere. The original had a pretty cool twist at the end but it felt more organic, a natural conclusion to the game's story. This one has a complete and utter mind fuck instead. Until the very end of Chapter 5 when the game threw all pretense out the window and was pretty blatant about it, I never could've possibly seen this coming. I'm sure there were hints throughout the game but I'd have to replay the whole thing to be sure. But what's important here is that it actually resolved everything in what I thought was a very satisfying manner. So, as someone that loves weird twists, I think the ultimate resolution here was more interesting than in the original. So yeah, overall the game was at least as good as the original. Possibly better but that will probably depend on your own preferences. Oh and Now hurry the fuck up NISA and announce that you're localizing that weird third-person survival-horror shooter spin-off. I need it ASAP. Preferably inside of me.
-
Agreed. At the very least not in a mainline entry, yeah. I would be fine with an action-RPG spin-off like Versus XIII originally was. But now that it's become FFXV I kinda hope they reworked it to be turn-based in some way. Wouldn't feel right otherwise.
-
FF has had active time battles since like.. FFIV? FFXIII was turn-based, don't know about the sequels but I would assume them as well. Wasn't Versus XIII initially supposed to be some kind of action-RPG similar to Kingdom Hearts, though? I wonder if that's still the case, that trailer certainly didn't look turn-based. Then again, FFXIII didn't really either when you looked at it in action. Might just be an evolution of that, making turn-based look as real-time as possible.
-
Well how about that. Final Fantasy XIII on Steam. Better late than never, I suppose. I'll probably double dip, if only in anticipation of the sequels/to support future FF releases on Steam.
-
Yeah, 100$ isn't much more than I paid for my 32GB. Might have to think about upgrading soon, just not sure what I'd do with my 32GB.
-
Last week!? Man, mine has been full for months. I keep having to delete stuff whether because of PS+ or just regular purchases. And keep in mind I always go physical when it's an option. I really need to get me one of those 64GBs. Where did you get yours Cowboy?
-
I guess I forgot to post it when I bought it but I just "beat" Hexcells Infinite. It just showed up on Steam out of nowhere and it was a no-brainer for me because I really loved the first two games. They're really neat if you like logic puzzles. Anyway, "beat" in quotes because, although this one has the same amount of handmade puzzles as the previous games, it also has a random puzzle generator. So, that's pretty cool. I'll probably be playing this one on and off for a while.

Yeah, I'm also a big RE5 fan, pretty sure I platinum'd the PS3 version. I thought it was similar enough to RE4, just nowhere near as good. Regardless of how successful it was at being Resident Evil, I'd still call RE5 a solid game. RE6 on the other hand, what little I've played of it seemed a bit shit.

Capcom finally confirmed this week that they'll be patching out GFWL and moving the game to Steamworks (along with Dead Rising 2 + Off The Record!) so I was just waiting for a sale to grab it. It was a pretty short wait, I guess this was deliberate timing on the announcement. I really hope they'll take the opportunity to finally port the DLC episodes to PC while they're working on the game again. I never got the chance to play them on PS3 and I'm not sure if I even still have my copy of the game. And even if I do, I'm not really interested in buying DLC on a system I'll soon be replacing.
-
Ugh, it's hard to concentrate on my economy readings when this is pretty much playing on a loop in my head.
-
Well, if not cheaper then very close. I know I came close to pulling the trigger a few times and it had to have been under 15$ for me to even consider it. Yeah, according to Enhanced Steam the lowest it's been was 10.19$ a few months ago.

Grabbed the Humble Bundle 12. It's a solid bundle but I already owned all the base games except for Hammerwatch (only had Luftrausers on Vita, though) but the main reason I got it was for Prison Architect at the 10$ tier. Been wanting it for a while and I'm sure it's already been on sale on Steam for cheaper but there was always something keeping me from going for it. Hopefully the bonus games won't be stuff I already own.
