Cool. How is Burst? I don't own a 3DS so I had to settle on watching the anime. It did a decent job getting me up to speed on the story but it only focused on the Hanzo side of things. I'll be getting a 2DS to play Persona Q in a few weeks so I might check it out then.

I prefer this version of the video.

Just got home and my copy was waiting on my desk. Can't wait to give it a shot tonight. Amazon was being slow with shipping and I started hearing stories of people getting their delivery estimates delayed by entire months and some even had their orders cancelled. So, I got nervous and ordered from EBGames yesterday. Lucky for me they still had copies in stock, Amazon pretty much stopped taking orders on release day. I don't think I'll ever pre-order anything remotely limited with them again.

You're quoting me directly but you keep interpreting what I said in ways that completely ignore the context, so you're essentially putting words in my mouth. Replying as if I was implying things that I wasn't. And for the last fucking time: No. I was never commenting on the Unity 900p thing. Here is the whole tangent my post is from: Maybe you're SOL but I don't give a shit. Even if I knew for a goddamned fact that my hypothetical PS4 could get a whole extra p (or 200!) out of the game, I don't let that shit get in the way of my enjoying the game. Simple as that. I'm not gonna go nuts just because Ubisoft's PR got drunk this week and let them say stupid shit. So you were refuting some completely meaningless detail then? Noted. All that meant was that my point stands because this conversation is the same regardless of where it's happening because it's the same segment of the market that's having it. I would imagine that the majority of people that are buying a £350+ console within a year of launch are the tech-savvy enthusiasts, most early adopters are. It's a big explainer for the difference between Xbox One and PS4 sales, if it was purely just a popularity contest the Xbox One would have more than likely carried on the success of the 360. But the launch blunders of the Xbox One that only "tech savvy gaming enthusiasts" would care for seem to have impacted it a fair bit. Oh, they're definitely in there. But the PS4 has sold a lot more units than even Sony anticipated at this point. I've seen a bunch of articles about how a sizable chunk of the PS4 userbase are first-time PlayStation users. Like this one. 10 million units is a lot of systems out there for a console not yet a full year old. I think that leaves plenty of room for lots of PS4 owners who are more relaxed about this stuff. Also, the Xbox One blunder was nowhere near as insignificant as stupid resolution drama. If it had been, Microsoft would've never done that 180 as fast as they did. They knew they were in big trouble. If they had thought they could get away with it, they definitely would have stuck to their guns. See Ubisoft's current PR shitstorm. They don't give a fuck, they know Unity's going to sell as well as all the previous AC games. I've already addressed the word twisting above. As for the calling you crazy bit, sorry, I'm not trying to insult you. It's just frustrating to be repeatedly quoted out of context and have to reiterate my actual points every damn time. Feels like arguing with a wall and, frankly, it makes your posts come off as kind of schizophrenic. It's like you're mixing an imaginary discussion into the one we're actually having. And it's not like I don't see the issue with lower performance and parity downgrades and what not. It sucks but I just think it's absolutely insane the way people lose their fucking shit over that stuff. So yeah, I think devs have the right idea to ignore this batshit crazy minority. I wouldn't go so far as to say that it's fine, but I do think it's simply not that big of a deal. So long as the game is playable (which I mostly define as a solid 30 FPS), then whatever, I bought a console to play some damn video games knowing full well that I'd have an inferior experience.
-
Wrong. My post that you initially quoted wasn't about that at all. It was a direct response to GOH's off-topic comment that "console ownership is more annoying than either Uplay or Origin". Maybe make sure you have a proper grasp of what a conversation is about before you start cherry picking things to reply to in completely unrelated threads? And my stance on this is that a game running at a solid 30 FPS at a resolution close to 1080p is hardly being SOL. If I buy a console as my primary gaming platform (as I'll be doing in a few short months), then yeah, I'm not going to be expecting every single game to be 1080p60. Because I'm not a fucking idiot, I know that's completely unrealistic. Not good enough for you? Play on your damn PC, then. That's what I'd be doing if I could afford a new build. In the meantime, I'll gladly grab a PS4 and play on that. The games won't be any less enjoyable. *Sigh* "like NeoGAF and such" were my exact words. This place really isn't all that different in regards to what kind of gamers frequent it. NeoGAF is just much, much bigger. Not sure what you thought you were refuting here. And the sales thing was just an extension of my point that those who feel strongly about this are the minority. Because that's what the initial conversation was actually about: the majority of people not being the same kind of tech-savvy gaming enthusiasts you find on the internet. Hence the whole trading performance for convenience thing. Goddamn man, you're fucking exhausting to deal with. If you keep twisting my words to try and pry nonexistent arguments out of them, then I'm just not gonna bother replying to you any more. It's worth neither the time nor the energy. I'm starting to have flashbacks of a certain crazy person that briefly visited us over the summer...

Lol. What? I never said anything of the sort. My point was that your claim that "if a game runs slow on your console, you're shit out of luck" was kind of an exaggeration. And I never said anything about positives or negatives. Once more: I'm not saying console gaming is better than PC Gaming. That was never the point of the conversation you initially quoted from and I'm not interested in such a pointless argument. You mean that conversation that's only taking place in enthusiast circles like NeoGAF and such? Yeah, that's a very small segment of the market. Do you seriously believe the resolution and framerate of ACU on consoles is going to have any kind of impact on its sales? I sure as hell don't, not for an IP this big. And I never said "no one cares", I said "most people don't care". I'm starting to think you're intentionally twisting my words, here. :/

DLC character. So, not only is Ultimax the first fighting game I ever pay full launch price for, I'm pretty sure it's the first time I ever buy a DLC character, too. Funny what actually caring about the story and characters does.

Maybe it's too early for me to be on the internet because I had to re-read that a couple times to really get what you were trying to say. I'm getting the sense that maybe you misunderstood me or perhaps my tone came across wrong because I wasn't putting anyone down or trying to criticize either PC gaming or console gaming. You are absolutely correct that PC gaming is for those who want to go further, I thought that was the indirect implication of my posts. I was saying that console gaming, with all its simplicity and easy of use, is for those that don't want to do that. Well, I don't think there's any need for something remotely close to an FOV slider in terms of options on consoles but yeah, we've already seen an example of something like this in The Last of Us: Remastered. The game offers the option to run at 30 FPS with some fancy effects (I think it's mostly shadows) or 60 FPS without. There's really no need for any kind of advanced tweaking beyond something basic like that, though, because the hardware is the same in every single machine. They can essentially tweak your game for you and, in some cases, probably get a little bit more out of the hardware than you normally could. edit: Same here. I think dean quoting us here from the other thread caused some unintended implication. Like I said in my original reply, it's a little out of context from the original conversation.
-
You know what's an actual falsehood? Claiming that PC gaming and console gaming are equally complex. That's just downright false. A game isn't going to "run slow" on your console. It's going to run slow on all the consoles. Like I said, you trade performance for convenience. So, barring any kind of Skyrim PS3 situation (i.e. a completely broken product), console games are generally going to be reasonably optimized for the specific hardware in your machine. Reasonable performance with none of the hassle. Believe it or not, most people don't give that much of a shit about performance or framerates. An increasing number of people just want to play the Call of Halos on their X-Station, man. They couldn't give less of a shit about installing drivers and apps to tweak their shit for them.
-
Just to be clear, I wasn't arguing that consoles are better because of the convenience or anything like that. I was responding to the specific claim that console ownership is more annoying, which made no sense to me. So replying to my post in this other thread feels kind of out of context. But whatever, like Ethan said, those apps are an imperfect solution at best. And even with the hassle they remove, they're still another superfluous step between you and playing the game. Personally, I'll always choose to directly fiddle with game settings over using an app like that. If settings tweaking sounds so horrible to someone that they'd rather use an app like this, they're probably better off getting a console, no?
-
And it's not like it's just that either. Gaming on PC requires significantly more efforts than on console. Even before you start having to tweak settings there's redundant DRM layers to juggle, then there's drivers and hardware issues and what not. I mean, don't get me wrong, if I could afford to build a 2000$ gaming PC tomorrow I'd do it in a heartbeat. But with a console, you trade performance for convenience. You just pop in your disc and can jump in right away with no extra steps required on your part. So, GOH's comment about console ownership being more annoying makes no sense whatsoever to me. I'm not sure how to interpret it other than "hurrr master race". Care to elaborate, Mr. GOH?
-
Yeah, for a while now I've been seriously considering just sticking to consoles for Ubisoft and EA games in the future and I think I'll do just that once I get my PS4. I just can't be bothered to deal with their fucking bullshit on PC anymore.

Hatsune Miku: Project Diva f. I didn't expect I'd be making a double post but I finished clearing the last few songs on normal last night. Of course, this being a rhythm game, "beating" it on normal might as well just be the tutorial (especially since normal here only uses 2 buttons per song instead of all 4). Harder difficulties is where the fun truly begins so I'm nowhere near done with it. But I had to watch the stupid credits so whatever, I'm counting it. There's not much else to add, I guess. It's a really good rhythm game, you just need to like or be able to endure this kind of music. I might grab the sequel in November should my budget allow for it. But man, I just want Persona 4 Dancing All Night already.

So, even the PS3 versions only had partial dubs? I assumed it was only an issue with Re;Birth because apparently the localization was redone, for some reason. People on NeoGAF were complaining that some stuff like attack names and such were pronounced wrong in the new dub, despite using the same voice actors.
-
From what I understand, these remakes are all based on Victory's gameplay. I heard the first couple games on PS3 were pretty bad and I really didn't get that from Re;Birth. And yeah, Re;Birth 2 is Mk II. They also just announced Re;Birth 3 a couple weeks ago, a remake of Victory. It's coming out in Japan around December, I think. @AlexHeat: So jealous. I fucking love Platinum Games and W101 looks so good. If I had more disposable income, I'd probably buy a Wii U just to play it. Oh and Bayonetta 2.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth 1. I enjoyed this one way more than I expected to. I was curious about it but kind of on the fence and only bought it because I had a bunch of extra cash after my plans to get a 3DS fell through. The story is dumb as all shit but the script itself is kinda funny and it doesn't have any cringe-inducing corny moments like Disgaea does. I wouldn't recommend it solely for the story but if you enjoy Disgaea's story and meta humor then it's definitely worth checking out. The combat system is pretty good. It's turn-based but with free movement and semi real-time attacks. It's nothing revolutionary but it does the job. I never found myself annoyed by encounters nor did I ever get tired of battles. And that actually says a lot because endlessly running into battles is usually the main reason I'll lose interest in an RPG, that shit can get so fucking tedious. But it was never a problem here. Unfortunately, the game can be insanely grindy early on. It seems the game is balanced on the assumption that you've been clearing all the optional dungeons. Problem is, the game never bothered to tell me about them. I only found out they existed when someone on NeoGAF told me. But after that it gets better. Some later bosses required a little bit of grinding but there were always areas where the enemies gave tons of xp so leveling up was pretty fast. Another mark against the game is that it recycles maps a lot. It only became obvious after 10 or so hours but most of the optional dungeons are carbon copies of some of the story ones. And some of the later dungeons re-used entire earlier dungeons and added an extra area or two to them. It sucks but considering that this is a very niche handheld game I can look past it. Besides, somehow it didn't feel quite as blatant and insulting as some other game that shall not be named... Oh and one other thing. I'm not a purist about Japanese voice acting by any means (especially not when it comes to video games) and the english voices actually sounded pretty good to me, but after a while I started wondering why so many scenes weren't voiced at all. So, I switched to the Japanese track and, sure enough, it was fully voiced. So either that aspect of the localization was kind of half-assed or (more likely) it was a budget limitation. Either way, it's something to consider if you have no interest in playing with Japanese voices.

Oh, that's too bad. Now you won't get to see how utterly shit I am at fighting games. edit: I actually pre-ordered it before I even started the first one but now that I've finished it I know I'll definitely want to play the next one. It's not coming out until January but 3-4 months isn't too bad of a wait considering the first one just came out a few weeks ago.
-
Lol. The way those two pics are stuck together made me do a double take. "Ultimax is on 3DS? What?!" Glad to see I'm not the only one here who got Ultimax. Is that the PS3 version? If so, we should try to set up some matches or whatever. I'm not sure if I have you on my PSN friends list.
-
It is! At least, as far as being a rhythm game goes, i.e. the gameplay. Everything else is subjective, of course. Your tolerance for this kind of music will definitely make or break this one. Personally I just want to play fun video games, I couldn't care less about everything else.

Shut up, Cowboy! (No. She is not my waifu.)

It seems I've officially run out of fucks to give because I grabbed this last night. Sigh... the things I put up with for my Vita, man. I'm not a fan of that shitty vocaloid music but I do love me some rhythm games and, as it turns out, this one is pretty legit. I've had the demo on my Vita for a couple months now and I just kept going back to it despite it only having three songs available. Some of the songs are catchy in that shitty J-Pop kinda way but man, Persona 4 Dancing All Night seriously can't come soon enough. I want this gameplay but with actually good music!
-
Yeah, that first rebuttal showdown was brutal. Made me want to throw my vita at the wall... It was better once I gave up on using the touch controls, though. Yeah, I think playing the game so slowly worked to my advantage there. I know what you're referring to when you say it was hinted at the beginning but it took me almost 2 weeks to finish the game. I had completely forgotten about that and I only remembered it when it happened again during the final chapter. Sorry, kinda drawing a blank here. I can't really remember anything particularly creepy off the top of my head. Which scene do you mean?
-
Yeah, I get that. Early on I had this overwhelming sense of "Holy shit, I am never going to be good at this game." There's definitely a bit of a skill wall when you first start playing. Hitting X when landing seemed so fucking counterintuitive at first. But if you stick with it long enough it kinda becomes second nature after a while. I don't really have to think about it anymore, I just do it. I still need to complete Rad mode if I want to go for 100% trophies but man, when I tried I couldn't even clear the first level. That shit is hardcore.
-
OlliOlli. I completely forgot that I beat this. I've been playing it on and off all month and I finally cleared all the objectives on the last few pro levels like a week ago. Seriously great little game. It's like a cross between classic Tony Hawk and Hotline Miami. I cannot recommend it enough. And it's on PS3/4 and Steam now, so you have no excuse not to get it! I was reminded of it today when they officially announced OlliOlli 2! Really psyched about that!

I'm only about 6 hours or so into Re;Birth but so far I'm enjoying it a lot more than I expected to. I can't really compare it to the original (which I hear is fairly terrible?) since this is my first Neptunia game but the script is funny and the combat is good. It's a little grindy so far but from what I heard that's not going to be the case for much longer. I can already tell it's going to put my tolerance for cutesy anime shit to the test big time, though. The ratio of pudding talk to other topics of conversation is already ridiculously disproportionate and I'm starting to worry what kind of ill effects it could have on my sanity in the long term.
