  1. Ground Zeroes and Phantom Pain officially coming to PC/Steam! Yay! Probably won't be able to run it without a complete upgrade but great news nonetheless!
  2. So, it's been a while, but it sounds like you're barely a few hours in. And you're already thinking of stopping? Wat. It's a JRPG, you need a bit of patience, man. Those can take a little while to get going. Just pretend that Tidus is mentally ill and everyone else is humoring him. Also, as someone who enjoyed FFXIII for what it was, FFX is so much better it's not even funny. I mean, X's story isn't an incoherent mess of nonsense, for one. And it has an actual combat system that doesn't prefer playing with itself.
  3. Yeah, it was refreshing as hell how during their conference Sony were very explicit "these are first-party exclusives" and "this is coming first on" etc. I fucking love how this exclusive bullshit backfired on Microsoft big time here. This kind of purposefully confusing messaging can go fuck itself and needs to stop right here. If you're going to be a blight on the industry with your shitty exclusivity deals, at least be open about it. It's only going to hurt you in the long run when people realize how full of shit you are.
  4. Nah, FFX is great. At least half the main characters are good, story is really interesting, battle system is solid and the world is beautiful. I'm starting to think Cowboy simply has no tastes. Or maybe he just doesn't like Final Fantasy. Which other FFs have you played, Cowboy? And have you enjoyed them at all?
  5. Interesting. Which ones would you say are the best then? All I know is most people seem to hate Graces. edit: Oh yeah, forgot about Vesperia. I hear that one is really good. Sucks that they never localized the PS3 port.
  6. Yeah, the way people say Symphonia is one of the best in the series is really putting me off of trying more of them. :/ I was discussing it with someone online and they mentioned the point where most people say it gets good. And that's about where I was, so it's possible I quit just as it was on the verge of picking up. But I don't really feel like wasting any more time on it just on the off chance it might finally get better. I have other, better shit to play. I already have Xillia so I'll probably try it at some point. And if I enjoy it maybe I'll go back to Symphonia. But I don't think that's gonna happen any time soon.
  7. Nocturne is fucking great. The last couple days were trying on my patience and sanity because of two dungeons and their absurdly high encounter rates but it's back to being awesome now. Fuck Tales of Symphonia, though. I hope you'll enjoy it more than I did. I just gave up after 20 hours because it was too boring. edit: wait, Nocturne is on sale? Fuck! I bought it less than a week ago... Oh, it's only 2 bucks less. Meh, whatever. I might grab the Digital Devil Saga games, though.
  8. Man, Quantum Break looks pretty sick. I'd prefer Alan Wake 2 but still, here's hoping for a PC version.

They never explicitly said it was TPS, but that was always kinda obvious right? Being Remedy 'n' all.

Yeah, not sure what you expected Ethan. Max Payne and Alan Wake were both TPSs. This was clearly going to be one as well.

And, I mean, I'm with you, I'm sick of them (plain shooters in general, really). But I love Remedy's games, they usually feel very different from your run of the mill bland shooters.

@Kenshi: I don't think they gave a release date, no. Wikipedia only says Q2 2015.

  9. I don't think so. I read about that a little while ago and apparently Sony and Square have had business like this for years, it went both ways. It wasn't just a dick move on Sony's part. http://www.vg247.com/2014/05/13/sony-stock-sale-is-square-enix-returning-a-favour-says-producer/ Besides, it wouldn't account for the lack of a PC version.
  10. I'm not sure if I'm more pissed at Square for being fucking morons or at Microsoft for making the industry worse for gamers. This kind of shitty business practice from MS is a big part of why I'll never own an Xbox. And Square are fucking idiots, I mean, this is a company that sold like 5 million copies of the original and still somehow complained that "it did not meet our sales goals". Actually, scratch that, this kind of borderline brain-dead stupidity is par for the course for Square Enix. Microsoft are basically taking advantage of the retarded kid on the playground, here: "Gimme your lunch money and I'll totally be your best friend!" Probably timed but still very annoying.
  11. No, it's there. It's pretty much the entire point of the game. It's a commentary on those shitty phone/facebook games that have timed/monetary restrictions on progression.
  12. Finally, a definitive edition we actually need!

  13. I don't think it's supposed to be harder per se but I've heard theories that they intentionally made the controls a bit janky to tie into the overall theme of the game. If that's the case, it's actually kind of genius and, considering everything else about the game is pretty well thought out, I'm inclined to think that might be the case.
  14. I've mentioned it a few times already but Tales of Symphonia bored the shit out of me. Nothing about it was really bad but I didn't care about the characters at all and I kept waiting for the story to get good. After 20 or so hours, I just kinda went "fuck it, this game isn't worth my time". No regrets. The only problem is it was my first attempt to get into the Tales of series. So now I have a copy of Tales of Xillia and I'm not sure if I should even bother with it. And my interest for the localization of Tales of Hearts R has really diminished as well. Nier is another one. The game did some really weird and creative things but it just never clicked for me. At one point I died to a boss and realized I had lost almost an entire dungeon's worth of progress. That's when I asked myself whether I was actually enjoying the game enough to bother doing it again. Turns out I wasn't. I'm sure there's more but those are the only ones I can think of right now.
  15. Grabbed this a couple nights ago. I was bored and didn't know what to play so I decided it was time I give it a shot. I'm only a few hours into it but so far I like it enough. It's my first proper Shin Megami Tensei game and it's about as weird as I expected but what little similarities it has to Persona are enough to make me feel right at home. But man, I really wish PS2 Classics were playable on Vita. Seriously, Sony. Get your shit together!
  16. The video game industry doesn't lie to us, they only have our best interests at heart. They're not even really interested in our money, guys. They just wanna be our friends!
  17. So, this happened last night I guess now I have until November 25 to buy a 3DS?! Okay what actually happened is I noticed Amazon.ca had a discount on the pre-order and I went for it since I can just cancel it whenever. And from the looks of it I acted just in time because now it's gone. I was thinking of getting a PS4 this fall but the more I think about it the more it seems foolish to drop that kinda cash on a console when literally all the games I'm really excited about are 2015 titles (and god only knows how many of them will end up getting delayed). The 3DS is next in line for systems I want, is about 300 bucks cheaper and already has a bunch of exclusives I really want to play. Just makes more sense for my limited student budget. Plus, it's getting a fucking Persona game. That's a pretty big system seller for me.
  18. HD Remaster of the Resident Evil remake? Yes, please!

According to Eurogamer they have the option between classic controls and updated controls. Camera's still the same though.

I somehow missed that. I wonder what kind of effect it'll have on the game's difficulty.

Looks like there will also be an option to play in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Glad to hear that because the scrolling 16:9 thing sounds kinda weird.

    4. TheMightyEthan

      TheMightyEthan

Yeah, I'm worried about the scrolling cutting off parts of the scene you were intended to be able to see.

  19. Well, yeah. I didn't mean it like that. But Tenshi hasn't been around in a while, I think. Just seemed like it was worth mentioning.
  20. I think he means that you're replying to a thread started by someone who's no longer around.
  21. Ys Origin. I cleared the game with Yunica last night. Overall, I'd say it's about on par with Oath in Felghana. It runs on the same engine so it plays essentially the same. Unfortunately, that means the return of the one thing I was happy Celceta did away with: jumping. Flying enemies and shitty platforming are the two things I find the most annoying in these games. But other than that it was pretty good. From what I heard, Origin wasn't as popular in Japan because Adol's not in it but I didn't have a problem with that. I also liked how the game entirely takes place in a single dungeon, it made for an interesting change. I started a new run with Hugo to see how different his story is but I'm not sure I'll bother finishing it. He's a more interesting character but I really don't like his shitty shmup-like attacks, it's just kind of awful. Or maybe I just suck. I'll have to do a run with the unlockable character, though. Apparently he has the true ending or whatever. But yeah, after Celceta, Corpse Party, Trails and now this, I've been on kind of an XSEED/Falcom binge lately. Guess I might as well grab Ys Seven soon. Gonna have to play Corpse Party: Book of Shadows first, though. And then there's Disgaea 4 coming out in a couple weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze Seven in there...
  22. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Well, I'm really glad I gave in to the hype and got this one because it was well worth the 20 bucks I dropped on it. I'm actually kinda shocked that it managed to live up to the hype. I usually try to keep my expectations in check but this one gets a LOT of praise in some corners of the internet. The story itself isn't particularly amazing for the first half but the world and characters are so well-written and fleshed out that it still sucked me in almost instantly. This game is straight out of the SNES/PSOne golden era of JRPGs (though it originally came out in 2004, I think) and it was a blast to get into one of them like I used to back in the days. Especially considering my disappointingly failed attempt to get into the Tales of series a couple months back... There's one area where I'm kinda glad the game didn't live up to the hype, though: the ending. I've known for a while that the game ends on a big cliffhanger and I was led to believe that it was a pretty intense one that would put even Lost to shame. Can't say I really agree there. It's a cliffhanger for sure and I'm definitely looking forward to Second Chapter, but I don't exactly need it in my veins or anything. I'm fine waiting a few more months for it. Of course, knowing that SC is actually coming, and sooner rather than later at that, might be a factor here. I definitely sympathize with the people who played this back in 2011 when XSEED first released the PSP version, without knowing if they'd even get SC. But as someone who was really into Lost, the cliffhanger itself feels pretty tame by comparison.
  23. I'll have to look around to find the source but I remember reading a write up from a dev that basically said the PS+ deals from Sony were fair but far from amazing considering the impact it has on sales. And Rogue Legacy is fucking great, you guys should buy it regardless! ...on Steam edit: all I could find http://www.worldsfactory.net/2013/12/07/contrast-dev-ps-plus-deal-fair-not-goldmine

Homefront 2 was being made by Crytek UK, aka Free Radical, aka a waste of not making Timesplitters 4.

      toxicitizen

Yeah, I know. But they were still operating under Crytek and contributed to Crysis 2 and 3.

And looking them up on wiki, turns out they also made Haze...

Was Timesplitters really that good? I've never played any of them but I constantly hear praise for the series.

Timesplitters was pretty damn fun. I had it on PS2, used to spend many a weekend building levels to play with my sister. Good times. I liked the 70s dude.
