  1. The video game industry doesn't lie to us, they only have our best interests at heart. They're not even really interested in our money, guys. They just wanna be our friends!
  2. So, this happened last night I guess now I have until November 25 to buy a 3DS?! Okay what actually happened is I noticed Amazon.ca had a discount on the pre-order and I went for it since I can just cancel it whenever. And from the looks of it I acted just in time because now it's gone. I was thinking of getting a PS4 this fall but the more I think about it the more it seems foolish to drop that kinda cash on a console when literally all the games I'm really excited about are 2015 titles (and god only knows how many of them will end up getting delayed). The 3DS is next in line for systems I want, is about 300 bucks cheaper and already has a bunch of exclusives I really want to play. Just makes more sense for my limited student budget. Plus, it's getting a fucking Persona game. That's a pretty big system seller for me.
  3. HD Remaster of the Resident Evil remake? Yes, please!

According to Eurogamer they have the option between classic controls and updated controls. Camera's still the same though.

I somehow missed that. I wonder what kind of effect it'll have on the game's difficulty.

Looks like there will also be an option to play in the original 4:3 aspect ratio. Glad to hear that because the scrolling 16:9 thing sounds kinda weird.

Yeah, I'm worried about the scrolling cutting off parts of the scene you were intended to be able to see.

  4. Well, yeah. I didn't mean it like that. But Tenshi hasn't been around in a while, I think. Just seemed like it was worth mentioning.
  5. I think he means that you're replying to a thread started by someone who's no longer around.
  6. Ys Origin. I cleared the game with Yunica last night. Overall, I'd say it's about on par with Oath in Felghana. It runs on the same engine so it plays essentially the same. Unfortunately, that means the return of the one thing I was happy Celceta did away with: jumping. Flying enemies and shitty platforming are the two things I find the most annoying in these games. But other than that it was pretty good. From what I heard, Origin wasn't as popular in Japan because Adol's not in it but I didn't have a problem with that. I also liked how the game entirely takes place in a single dungeon, it made for an interesting change. I started a new run with Hugo to see how different his story is but I'm not sure I'll bother finishing it. He's a more interesting character but I really don't like his shitty shmup-like attacks, it's just kind of awful. Or maybe I just suck. I'll have to do a run with the unlockable character, though. Apparently he has the true ending or whatever. But yeah, after Celceta, Corpse Party, Trails and now this, I've been on kind of an XSEED/Falcom binge lately. Guess I might as well grab Ys Seven soon. Gonna have to play Corpse Party: Book of Shadows first, though. And then there's Disgaea 4 coming out in a couple weeks. Hopefully I'll be able to squeeze Seven in there...
  7. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky. Well, I'm really glad I gave in to the hype and got this one because it was well worth the 20 bucks I dropped on it. I'm actually kinda shocked that it managed to live up to the hype. I usually try to keep my expectations in check but this one gets a LOT of praise in some corners of the internet. The story itself isn't particularly amazing for the first half but the world and characters are so well-written and fleshed out that it still sucked me in almost instantly. This game is straight out of the SNES/PSOne golden era of JRPGs (though it originally came out in 2004, I think) and it was a blast to get into one of them like I used to back in the days. Especially considering my disappointingly failed attempt to get into the Tales of series a couple months back... There's one area where I'm kinda glad the game didn't live up to the hype, though: the ending. I've known for a while that the game ends on a big cliffhanger and I was led to believe that it was a pretty intense one that would put even Lost to shame. Can't say I really agree there. It's a cliffhanger for sure and I'm definitely looking forward to Second Chapter, but I don't exactly need it in my veins or anything. I'm fine waiting a few more months for it. Of course, knowing that SC is actually coming, and sooner rather than later at that, might be a factor here. I definitely sympathize with the people who played this back in 2011 when XSEED first released the PSP version, without knowing if they'd even get SC. But as someone who was really into Lost, the cliffhanger itself feels pretty tame by comparison.
  8. I'll have to look around to find the source but I remember reading a write up from a dev that basically said the PS+ deals from Sony were fair but far from amazing considering the impact it has on sales. And Rogue Legacy is fucking great, you guys should buy it regardless! ...on Steam edit: all I could find http://www.worldsfactory.net/2013/12/07/contrast-dev-ps-plus-deal-fair-not-goldmine

Homefront 2 was being made by Crytek UK, aka Free Radical, aka a waste of not making Timesplitters 4.

      toxicitizen

Yeah, I know. But they were still operating under Crytek and contributed to Crysis 2 and 3.

And looking them up on wiki, turns out they also made Haze...

Was Timesplitters really that good? I've never played any of them but I constantly hear praise for the series.

Timesplitters was pretty damn fun. I had it on PS2, used to spend many a weekend building levels to play with my sister. Good times. I liked the 70s dude.

  10. It's pretty cool that Dragon's Crown is both Vita and PS3 even though it's not technically cross-buy. I bought it on Vita like two months ago and loved it but there were times when I kinda wished I could play it on a bigger screen. I just didn't want to double dip and now I don't need to! FEZ isn't too surprising but I wouldn't mind replaying it on Vita. And I guess I'll give Proteus a shot? I think I already own it on Steam but I never really felt like checking it out. First time I hear about Road Not Taken and Métrico, though. They don't even have wikipedia entries and I couldn't find anything when I looked them up on the Vita store. I'm assuming they're both new releases? Also, ever since they started the 2 games per platform format the Vita has been indirectly getting a ton of love thanks to cross-buy. That's kind of awesome.
  11. You'd be surprised by the amount of undeserved shit Ninja Theory gets. DmC and Enslaved, while not perfect, are both very solid games imho. But a lot of people would have you believe they're the video game equivalent of war crimes or something. I seriously don't get where this hate for the studio is coming from. Not even a little.
  12. Eh, I preferred playing it on Vita and not having to wait an extra week made up for the 3 bucks I would've saved. And considering the amount of crashes and bugs people are reporting on NeoGAF, I think I made the right call. I'll double dip the Steam version later on, when it's patched up and on sale. But yeah, great game. Been playing it all week and having a blast. Just entered the final dungeon last night so I expect I'll be finishing it today. Oh, and a little warning: the story is kinda "boring". That's not to say that the game itself is, though. It really isn't. But not a whole lot happens for like half the game, it's all about the characters and world-building. It's not your typical "let's go save the world through friendship" JRPG nonsense.
  13. I liked the Deathstroke fight. Honestly, boss fights were never this series strong suit and that's one area where I feel Origins was a slight improvement. I'll take something like Deathstroke, Shiva or Firefly (or even City's Ra's Al Ghul) over another "beat up goons for a while then rip another tube off of Bane" fight any day.
  14. Looks like there will be a season 3. http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/07/26/sdcc-2014-telltale-confirms-the-walking-dead-season-3 I've yet to start season 2 but I guess that's cool? I haven't heard anything negative about S2 so I assume it's still good. Now I'm getting the fuck out of this thread before I accidentally see a spoiler.
  15. Yeah, looks like a Platinum game. Not too surprised there. But man, considering what just happened with the show, it's not even funny anymore. Platinum really can't catch a break.
  16. What the hell is that? I can't decide if it looks tasty or gross...
  17. So, uh, is anyone else kinda confused that we're getting a Last of Us movie?

Then again, I still totally want a Metal Gear Solid movie. It would probably suck but I want one so fucking much.

Yeah I look at all those people who love The Walking Dead and stuff like that, but either don't play video games or only play NHL/CoD whatever, plus I'll go see it and so will a lot of gamers.

Also if you want a MGS movie, The Winter Soldier was basically MGS2, complete with tanker sequence.

Keep in mind that Neil Druckman from Naughty Dog is writing the script, too. Plus, I think casting choices need their approval. It's not been handed off to some hacks.

  18. I liked you better when you went by eleven...
  19. Wait, what sequel? Totally drawing a blank there. And sorry, I don't see how it's misleading. I was forthcoming about having enjoyed some parts of the game from the start. Like you said, it's still based on the Arkham games and those were pretty good. But that doesn't mean I can't criticize the game for its failings. And make no mistake, it does have some pretty serious failings. Oh wait, you mean Dragon Age 2! Right. Yeah, no. That's a completely different kind of bad. Origins isn't THAT bad! Like I said in that thread, I couldn't stand more than 10 hours of Dragon Age 2. Origins didn't need to exist but Dragon Age 2 should be retroactively erased from existence.
  20. That's the thing, I don't dislike the game. Like I said, I enjoyed the main story. I regret neither the 30 bucks I spent on it nor the 30 or so hours I spent in it. But I also don't believe a sequel can be judged entirely on its own merits. Not when it falls so short of its predecessors. It's not that it's a bad game but rather that it's a bad entry in the Arkham series. Does that make more sense?
  21. Aw shit, sorry. The way you were talking about it, I thought you had already played it. :/ And I just expanded on the didn't need to exist thing. Yes, it's harsh and I stand by it. More of the same can be fine. Unnecessary is pretty bad, though. Only other game that comes to mind off the top of my head is Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
  22. Wasn't me, I haven't played any of the DLC yet. I really need to stop buying these fucking season passes... edit: And to expand on the didn't need to exist bit, that might seem like fairly mild criticism but I feel like it's one of the worst things you could possibly say about a game. It's one thing for a game to be poorly made, even bad games will usually have some redeeming qualities. But when it just feels unnecessary, when its very existence is a negative mark against a series... I dunno, seems like a pretty severe failing. Oh and I totally hated how when you countered it broke your combo. That was so stupid.
  23. I enjoyed the main story and the boss fights, it's everything else I had a problem with. There was something seriously off about the combat, more than half of the map is re-used from Arkham City and most of the side stuff was samey and not really interesting. Also, I know a lot of people hated the big twist. I didn't but unlike most people I'm not sick of the character in question so I'm in the minority there. Mostly, I think Origins' biggest sin is that it failed to live up to previous games' quality. For example, Uncharted 3 was slightly disappointing compared to Uncharted 2 but it was still miles ahead of Uncharted 1. Whereas I honestly feel like Origins was the worst of the series. It didn't need to exist and it hurt the series, plain and simple. My hype for Arkham Knight would be through the fucking roof if I'd been waiting for it since 2011. Contrary to what publishers seem to believe, I can go more than 2 years without an installment in a given series. But I played a phoned in, me-too sequel less than a year ago. So, while Arkham Knight looks great, I'm not anticipating it anywhere near as much as I did City back then.
