  1. It's pretty cool that Dragon's Crown is both Vita and PS3 even though it's not technically cross-buy. I bought it on Vita like two months ago and loved it but there were times when I kinda wished I could play it on a bigger screen. I just didn't want to double dip and now I don't need to! FEZ isn't too surprising but I wouldn't mind replaying it on Vita. And I guess I'll give Proteus a shot? I think I already own it on Steam but I never really felt like checking it out. First time I hear about Road Not Taken and Métrico, though. They don't even have wikipedia entries and I couldn't find anything when I looked them up on the Vita store. I'm assuming they're both new releases? Also, ever since they started the 2 games per platform format the Vita has been indirectly getting a ton of love thanks to cross-buy. That's kind of awesome.
  2. You'd be surprised by the amount of undeserved shit Ninja Theory gets. DmC and Enslaved, while not perfect, are both very solid games imho. But a lot of people would have you believe they're the video game equivalent of war crimes or something. I seriously don't get where this hate for the studio is coming from. Not even a little.
  3. Eh, I preferred playing it on Vita and not having to wait an extra week made up for the 3 bucks I would've saved. And considering the amount of crashes and bugs people are reporting on NeoGAF, I think I made the right call. I'll double dip the Steam version later on, when it's patched up and on sale. But yeah, great game. Been playing it all week and having a blast. Just entered the final dungeon last night so I expect I'll be finishing it today. Oh, and a little warning: the story is kinda "boring". That's not to say that the game itself is, though. It really isn't. But not a whole lot happens for like half the game, it's all about the characters and world-building. It's not your typical "let's go save the world through friendship" JRPG nonsense.
  4. I liked the Deathstroke fight. Honestly, boss fights were never this series strong suit and that's one area where I feel Origins was a slight improvement. I'll take something like Deathstroke, Shiva or Firefly (or even City's Ra's Al Ghul) over another "beat up goons for a while then rip another tube off of Bane" fight any day.
  5. Looks like there will be a season 3. http://ca.ign.com/articles/2014/07/26/sdcc-2014-telltale-confirms-the-walking-dead-season-3 I've yet to start season 2 but I guess that's cool? I haven't heard anything negative about S2 so I assume it's still good. Now I'm getting the fuck out of this thread before I accidentally see a spoiler.
  6. Yeah, looks like a Platinum game. Not too surprised there. But man, considering what just happened with the show, it's not even funny anymore. Platinum really can't catch a break.
  7. What the hell is that? I can't decide if it looks tasty or gross...
  8. So, uh, is anyone else kinda confused that we're getting a Last of Us movie?

Then again, I still totally want a Metal Gear Solid movie. It would probably suck but I want one so fucking much.

Yeah I look at all those people who love The Walking Dead and stuff like that, but either don't play video games or only play NHL/CoD whatever, plus I'll go see it and so will a lot of gamers.

Also if you want a MGS movie, The Winter Soldier was basically MGS2, complete with tanker sequence.

Keep in mind that Neil Druckman from Naughty Dog is writing the script, too. Plus, I think casting choices need their approval. It's not been handed off to some hacks.

  9. I liked you better when you went by eleven...
  10. Wait, what sequel? Totally drawing a blank there. And sorry, I don't see how it's misleading. I was forthcoming about having enjoyed some parts of the game from the start. Like you said, it's still based on the Arkham games and those were pretty good. But that doesn't mean I can't criticize the game for its failings. And make no mistake, it does have some pretty serious failings. Oh wait, you mean Dragon Age 2! Right. Yeah, no. That's a completely different kind of bad. Origins isn't THAT bad! Like I said in that thread, I couldn't stand more than 10 hours of Dragon Age 2. Origins didn't need to exist but Dragon Age 2 should be retroactively erased from existence.
  11. That's the thing, I don't dislike the game. Like I said, I enjoyed the main story. I regret neither the 30 bucks I spent on it nor the 30 or so hours I spent in it. But I also don't believe a sequel can be judged entirely on its own merits. Not when it falls so short of its predecessors. It's not that it's a bad game but rather that it's a bad entry in the Arkham series. Does that make more sense?
  12. Aw shit, sorry. The way you were talking about it, I thought you had already played it. :/ And I just expanded on the didn't need to exist thing. Yes, it's harsh and I stand by it. More of the same can be fine. Unnecessary is pretty bad, though. Only other game that comes to mind off the top of my head is Assassin's Creed: Revelations.
  13. Wasn't me, I haven't played any of the DLC yet. I really need to stop buying these fucking season passes... edit: And to expand on the didn't need to exist bit, that might seem like fairly mild criticism but I feel like it's one of the worst things you could possibly say about a game. It's one thing for a game to be poorly made, even bad games will usually have some redeeming qualities. But when it just feels unnecessary, when its very existence is a negative mark against a series... I dunno, seems like a pretty severe failing. Oh and I totally hated how when you countered it broke your combo. That was so stupid.
  14. I enjoyed the main story and the boss fights, it's everything else I had a problem with. There was something seriously off about the combat, more than half of the map is re-used from Arkham City and most of the side stuff was samey and not really interesting. Also, I know a lot of people hated the big twist. I didn't but unlike most people I'm not sick of the character in question so I'm in the minority there. Mostly, I think Origins' biggest sin is that it failed to live up to previous games' quality. For example, Uncharted 3 was slightly disappointing compared to Uncharted 2 but it was still miles ahead of Uncharted 1. Whereas I honestly feel like Origins was the worst of the series. It didn't need to exist and it hurt the series, plain and simple. My hype for Arkham Knight would be through the fucking roof if I'd been waiting for it since 2011. Contrary to what publishers seem to believe, I can go more than 2 years without an installment in a given series. But I played a phoned in, me-too sequel less than a year ago. So, while Arkham Knight looks great, I'm not anticipating it anywhere near as much as I did City back then.
  15. Yeah, I'd probably be more inclined to give the game a serious shot if I could get into the competitive scene. I mean, I don't follow the StarCraft 2 scene religiously but I enjoy watching pro matches every now and then. It helps that I like the game but, even if I wasn't already familiar with it, it's pretty easy to understand what's happening on-screen. Two distinct races fighting each other, fairly easy to follow. But whenever I watch Dota 2 stuff, I just have no idea what the fuck is going on.
  16. Yeah, same for me. I tried Dota 2 and it's just not my kind of game. I almost kinda wish it was, honestly. The people that get into it seem to get really into it. It's not uncommon to see Dota 2 players with thousands of hours of playtime. It kinda feels like I'm missing out on something big.
  17. That's the thing, we don't know that it's a MOBA but the F2P part kinda limits what it could be. I seriously doubt it's another MMO and I can't really see it being a shooter either. What does that leave outside of MOBA? Perhaps some kind of ARPG? Now that I think about it, that's much closer to Bioware's wheelhouse and could be kind of interesting.
  18. Yeah, that's what I thought. Oh well, nothing to see here. For all we know, it might not even be a "real" Bioware title. Just another team with the Bioware brand slapped onto it. Like that Command & Conquer game, Generals 2 was it? That was canned, right?
  19. Yeah, no combination of words makes me lose interest in a game faster than free-to-play. Although the MOBA part was just me speculating, those seem to be all the rage right now. I honestly don't get why everyone's making them. We sure as shit don't need more... Is it just about trying to get that Dota/LoL money? Did the industry seriously learn nothing from their complete failure when they similarly tried to go after WoW?
  20. Mostly the theme. Nightmare and Shadow Realm/Lord don't seem too far removed from each other. It could be unrelated, I actually hope it is, but it looks like there's a real possibility that it's not. And yeah, Gamescom seems like a safe bet. That's in what, a couple weeks?
  21. Well, shit. Based on some url registrations from a few months ago, looks like it could be a free-to-play game. :/ Did anyone say MOBA?
  22. Yeah, not a fan of live-action either but for such an early teaser I don't really have an issue with it. It's when it's supposed to be a proper unveiling or closer to launch that it bugs me. At that point, it's really not what I want to see. But I'm with you, I have my issues with Bioware but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on a new IP.
  23. I think it was vaguely known that Bioware have been working on a new IP? Looks like this could be it. Looks like a departure from their usual fantasy/scifi fare so that alone intrigues me.
  24. Started playing Trails in the Sky today. I'm about 7 hours in and so far I'm enjoying it a lot. Which is kinda surprising considering how uneventful and even mundane the story has been so far. People aren't kidding when they say it's a very well-written and fleshed out world. The first five or so hours were pretty much someone going "I have to go on a trip, please do all my side-quests for me" and then you just kinda do that for a while. And yet, I kept playing all day because every little bit of lore or dialogue has been interesting or entertaining. By comparison, in Tales of Symphonia you're on a quest to save the world pretty much right off the bat, which sounds exciting but holy shit I was so fucking bored the entire time I played. The combat system is alright, too. It's standard turn-based RPG fare but with Disgaea-like grid-based movement. It's not the most exciting system ever but there's some room for strategy, which is always nice.
