For the red herring thing, it just doesn't make sense. If it was just meant to look pretty then your interaction with it would be seriously limited. It certainly wouldn't have that wire-cutting animation. I never felt like the game failed to properly explain any of its core mechanics. Literally the only thing I would agree it failed to convey properly was the barricades you squeeze through. I wasted a bit of time at first looking for a way to the next city area only to realize what I thought was a dead end was actually the way through. Pressure plates and buttons, I don't remember any but I'm sure there were. Doesn't mean they all need to be like that. Most of the traps and pressure plates I've deactivated were from wire boxes. Buttons have mostly been for secret passages and hidden rooms. Why can't both be used? What can and can't be climbed is fairly obvious. There's always some kind of visual cue, either scratch marks going up or some white stuff on the edge. Plus, all the claw points are highlighted blue automatically, I believe. I honestly have no idea why you insist on coming back to these so-called dead ends and "empty rooms" if you concede there were some things to loot in there. There's rarely just the one place to go after you fired your rope arrow. Usually you can leap off to other buildings and go to other rooms and such. So I honestly don't see what the problem is here. Break in, steal things, leave the same way you came. It's called Thief, what did you expect? You say there's no reason to be up there but the things to steal ARE the reason to be there. I don't know, it just seems like a really strange thing to get hung up on. It's not like you can't ignore The City and just focus on the story missions... And you really should stop comparing it to Deus Ex. They definitely share a similar pedigree and history but they're two completely different games. Deus Ex is a much deeper and larger game and if you keep comparing your experience with Thief to it then yeah, it's going to seem disappointing by comparison. Finally, when you say things like the game "stole your time" and whatnot, which I get was a joke but still, it does give the impression that you have a very low opinion of it. And that's fine. Problem is a lot of your criticism honestly seems to be born from your own incompetence at the game rather than any of the game's failings (and God knows it has many). And the rest of it just makes it sound like either the game's just not for you or you went in with the wrong expectations. I'm pretty sure I was able to get them all on one mission but yeah, I realize most of the time you can't get them all. It just seems a bit counter-intuitive. Off-topic: Has the forum started being crazy slow again for everyone else? I think it's the worst it's ever been for me.

Yeah, can't really argue with that. I didn't see it as an issue, personally. JC Denton was somewhat similar in that regard. I'd be fine with a blank slate protagonist for a game like Deus Ex to be honest. But the little bit of personality Jensen had was more than enough for me.

What are you going on about? There is a wire going from them, you need to use focus vision to see them. What kind of feedback do you expect? Some loud noise or something? It's a trap and you disabled it, that's it. Normally you'd be aware it was there before you randomly opened up some box on the wall to cut things up in it. Once you've disabled the trap, focus vision no longer highlights it. A red herring? Man, you draw some weird conclusions sometimes... And you keep bringing up these empty rooms but in all my exploring (and I've done a lot) I've yet to encounter a single one. So either you have the absolute worst luck in randomly walking into only quest-related rooms or you're just not looking very hard. There's always been at least one or two things to pick up for me. Usually more.

Like Ethan said, it's for disabling traps. Did you not read the description when you bought it? And yeah, fire arrows are more of an offensive kind of item, not meant for stealth. Never really used them here or in the originals. I really miss the moss arrows, now that I think about it. I haven't bothered buying the moss quiver because it's for broadheads and such and I'm going non-lethal but moss arrows were really cool. Definitely up there with rope and water arrows as the most useful ones. One complaint that I'm starting to have is the thieving challenges. They are retarded. Remain undetected, sure. 6 knockouts or kills, uh... okay? 5 combat takedowns? Go fuck yourself, game. I'm not breaking stealth for your stupid bullshit. Then there was a client job where there was one about using an environmental thing. But it drops this huge fucking crate which makes a bunch of noise and automatically invalidates remain undetected. So you can't get them all? What's the point then? it's not like they pay all that much individually.

Pretty sure it was very successful. Also I think The Fall was somewhat outsourced. It was overseen by DX:HR's director but it wasn't developed internally at Eidos Montreal. And I think it being an iOS game somewhat limited what they could do, yeah. So I don't see it as a sign to worry. As for Jensen not having much of a personality, well, that's kind of the point. You're making the occasional convo choice and all that and kinda defining your own Jensen. Not to the extent of Shepard or anything like that but the idea is essentially the same. Honestly, there were a few times where HR bugged me a little bit because Jensen would say stuff that would make me go "No, that's not right." Yeah, I realized the timing as I was writing my post. Hence the bit at the end. They wouldn't do that twice, would they? They can't possibly hate us that much.

Cool, that's what I was hoping for. What's annoying is when I bought the game I grabbed the Master Thief edition thinking it was included in it. Guess I got confused with the pre-order bonus because all I got was some shitty opportunist pack that had extra starting cash and gear. Was only a couple extra bucks but I still feel like I wasted money. :/ Seriously, that kind of shitty "boost" DLC has got to stop being a thing.

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided trademarked by Square Enix Shitty title but hopefully this one turns out to be the real deal. Considering it's already been confirmed that a new Deus Ex title is in development at Eidos Montreal for PC and next-gen consoles, it seems pretty likely to be the case. Perhaps to be revealed at E3? Then again, now that I've played and enjoyed The Fall, I guess I wouldn't be too pissed if it was the follow-up to that. But I swear to God, if this is another---oh Goddamnit, the timing would be just right for another April's fools bullshit fucking thing, wouldn't it...

Bank Heist DLC. How do you sell DLC to a Thief fan? You recreate the series' most iconic mission, of course. No idea how similar it's supposed to be but I just had to check it out. I don't realistically expect something comparable to the campaign missions considering it was only five bucks, but I hope it's a bit more substantial than the client jobs. Those are cool but usually pretty small. I just love me some Trials. Was a tad worried performance- and specs-wise because it's next-gen and physics heavy but I looked into the requirements a bit and I should be fine, especially considering there's a 360 version that I was unaware of. People already in the beta are also reporting better performance than Trials Evolution Gold. Was kinda tempted to get the Deluxe editon that includes the season pass but fuck that, I'm getting sick of pre-ordering DLC that's even further off than the actual game. It doesn't even offer a further discount anyway so I'll just get it once DLC starts coming out.

I don't think I've ever stumbled into a completely empty room. There's always been at least one or two things to grab. And for the weapon wheel, I'm playing with mouse and keyboard so that must be a controller-only thing because the game never mentioned it, it just told me which numbers to press during the tutorial. As for the alternate paths, well, this isn't Deus Ex. Thief has always been about exploration but in a more environmental awareness sense. You're not necessarily going to get some explicit reward for finding the alternate path, it's just going to provide you with a stealthier way in that won't cost you as many resources. And resource management is kind of a big part of Thief. In the old games, the motivation to get as much loot as possible was you'd need it to restock your inventory at the start of the next mission. It really emphasized that Garret lives from job-to-job. Thief 1 and 2 didn't have city hubs for you to roam around and stock up on cash or gear. One thing I hate about the context-sensitive/permanent rope arrows is it prevents one of the most fun thing of the old games: shooting your rope arrows strategically so that you can climb up and be able to recover them.

I don't think the originals suffer from any issues with modern OSes. At least, I didn't experience any when I replayed them last summer. Might've been because I used a few mods and fan-made patches but I doubt it. They're definitely worth a look. I dunno, I thought guards noticing torches that are out and lighting them up again made sense and was a logical bit of added challenge. That wasn't a thing in the originals but I would hardly say it makes the water arrows pointless. You're not really meant to take 'em out and hang around forever so I'm not sure how that could've been that much of an issue. And if you don't like them doing that you can always just conk 'em on the head and make the issue go away entirely. Same could be said for the electric lights. If you could just shoot water on every single light source then where would the challenge be? Besides, if the obvious way is too bright and you can't do anything about it, then there's most likely an alternative path somewhere. I don't know about god awful but the way there's this little looting animation that plays for every single goddamned thing you steal got old pretty fast. Having the things just disappear out of thin air like in the originals might've looked weird I guess but I dunno, there has to be a better way to do it than this. The what? I feel like I'm missing something here...

That was my reasoning as well. It would be kinda weird for the main villain of the big end to the trilogy to be a completely original character considering the amount of lore and characters they can draw from. Plus there's still a few dangling story threads they need to resolve, like Scarecrow and Hush. Who said anything about Red Hood specifically? Are there any hints in Asylum or City as to whether Under The Hood has already happened in the series' timeline? Been a while so I really don't remember all the little bios and stuff.

Jesus, what the fuck is going on at Naughty Dog? I think I'll go ahead and cautiously lower my expectations for Uncharted 4. For sure. Reminds me of all the departures from Irrational in the year leading up to Infinite's launch. Not that the game was bad but a few things clearly went wrong during its development.
-
The best serious theory I've seen so far is that it's Jason Todd. Would certainly fit with the guns and red on the armor. I'd much rather a twist like that than a completely new character, to be honest. And they better follow-up on that Hush thing from Arkham City!
-
Yeah, the originals are among my top games ever with Thief 2 being the best stealth game ever made, imho. And I'm still enjoying it a lot. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and some mind-boggingly stupid design decisions were made with it but it's still a solid game. Shit, I'd even say it's a solid Thief game. It's no Human Revolution, that's for sure, but it's certainly worthy of the Thief name. It definitely didn't deserve the shitty reviews it got.
-
Hahahaha shit, they didn't even bother to remove that bit? That seems like a really stupid oversight. But I guess it falls in line with other reports of this version being somewhat half-assed. Apparently they built it on top of the original, unpatched version of the game. Can't really think of a good reason why they would possibly do something like that... Oh and I was wondering, the game's been patched since launch so have you noticed if these issues have been fixed? http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=140389 The last one with the car looks better in the DC, IMHO, but the floor texture bugs(?) look pretty bad, especially Jensen's apartment floor.

Hahaha, if I have something I actually need to talk to them about I will but they can always pause and rewind those and I know that. With games you're lucky to have a save you can reload just before the cutscene triggered. More often than not you'll have to redo some gameplay section. Or just simply won't be able to go back.
-
Yeah, I mean, I can understand how a non-gamer might not get it at first. But after I politely ask you to be quiet for a bit, if you insist on talking anyway then I've run out of patience and will just tell you to shut the fuck up. And when it's happened with the same person repeatedly, I just skip the polite part and tell them to fuck off right away. Fucker, do you not learn? Worst part is the people I live with have the worst timing imaginable. If I was paranoid, I'd think they just stand outside my room and wait for the worst possible moment to come in and talk to me. You'd think that by now they would know not to interrupt when I'm just watching the screen and listening to people talking. And it's kinda hard to explain to a non-gamer the difference and why "This game I can pause the cutscene but this game I can't. Oh and this other game I can't even pause when it's the playing part." But yeah, I'll just close this rant by saying pausable cutscenes should be an enforced industry standard. I don't care by who, just someone do it!

Deus Ex: The Fall. How the fuck did people manage to be disappointed by this? I mean, it's a buggy, half-assed iOS port, yeah. So what the fuck did you expect? Did you think it would magically turn into something else when brought to PC? Did the 10$ price tag not tip you off that this wasn't going to be anything remotely comparable to DX:HR? The way people have been flipping their shit and asking for refunds, I just... what? What kind of delusional retard went into this with high expectations? I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. I've been finding myself increasingly annoyed with gamer "outrage" lately so this is just par for the course, I guess. Some gamers really need to learn to manage their expectations. Anyway, I expected shit and went in with an open mind and I ended up actually enjoying it a lot. It's like a shit version of Human Revolution but it felt Deus Ex-ey enough that the music and atmosphere provided enough enjoyment for my 10 bucks. The gameplay is somewhat the same but much shallower, the levels are small and the enemies are dumb braindead. But being an augmented badass just doesn't get old for me. My main complaint would be that I only found out this was Part 1 after buying it. I don't think the Steam store page makes any mention of that. So after 6 hours you're left with an unfinished story and a cliffhanger and AFAIK there hasn't been any word on whether or not Part 2 is still happening. If it is, then I'll definitely be grabbing it as well. But for now, it made me really want to replay Human Revolution. Might give the Director's Cut a shot once I'm done with Thief. Oh and it only allows one save. That's pretty bad. I realized early on that my quicksaves were overwriting my checkpoints so I learned to be careful with them. But someone walked into my room and started bugging me with some stupid shit during the final cutscene even though I made it clear that I needed them to be quiet for a sec. So I just alt-F4'd out of frustration but the game still autosaved and when I fired up the game again I could only start new game plus. Had to look up the cutscene on youtube. :/

I've had it pre-ordered for over a month but I was still on the fence. I mostly pre-ordered as a precaution since Atlus usually include a bunch of sweet bonus stuff with their first prints and with these niche RPGs you never know how limited the initial run will actually be. Anyway, the demo came out yesterday and I just gave it a run. This game is fucking weird. But I liked it so I think I'll be keeping the pre-order. This one's going straight to the summer backlog, I think. I've been putting off getting it for a while but it's 10 bucks on Steam and I had a bit of cash left this month. I gave the demo a shot and it looks pretty damn fun! On sale for like 1,75$ on the humble store. It was the only Hitman game I was still missing. Really glad it's finally available on Steam.

Haven't played it yet but that's good to hear considering this is likely the last "true" BioShock game we'll ever get.
-
Yeah, they probably got most of the content out through the patch. Smart move, honestly. The patch has been live for almost a month now. Plenty of time for even the less active players to have downloaded it by now. I imagine they didn't want thousands of players hammering their servers all at once and repeating the launch disaster.

Stupid Amazon is still "Preparing to ship" my copy. I've got other stuff to finish first so I'm not in a hurry but it still kind of annoys me. That's what I get for being stingy on shipping, I guess.

Shit, completely forgot that Burial At Sea Part 2 dropped this week. Between Deus Ex: The Fall, Thief and now this, it feels like an overload of my favorite classic series. Granted, some of them aren't quite matching the usual level of quality but still, fun times!

No, it makes Ethan the worst person here.
