  1. I don't think the originals suffer from any issues with modern OSes. At least, I didn't experience any when I replayed them last summer. Might've been because I used a few mods and fan-made patches but I doubt it. They're definitely worth a look. I dunno, I thought guards noticing torches that are out and lighting them up again made sense and was a logical bit of added challenge. That wasn't a thing in the originals but I would hardly say it makes the water arrows pointless. You're not really meant to take 'em out and hang around forever so I'm not sure how that could've been that much of an issue. And if you don't like them doing that you can always just conk 'em on the head and make the issue go away entirely. Same could be said for the electric lights. If you could just shoot water on every single light source then where would the challenge be? Besides, if the obvious way is too bright and you can't do anything about it, then there's most likely an alternative path somewhere. I don't know about god awful but the way there's this little looting animation that plays for every single goddamned thing you steal got old pretty fast. Having the things just disappear out of thin air like in the originals might've looked weird I guess but I dunno, there has to be a better way to do it than this. The what? I feel like I'm missing something here...
  2. That was my reasoning as well. It would be kinda weird for the main villain of the big end to the trilogy to be a completely original character considering the amount of lore and characters they can draw from. Plus there's still a few dangling story threads they need to resolve, like Scarecrow and Hush. Who said anything about Red Hood specifically? Are there any hints in Asylum or City as to whether Under The Hood has already happened in the series' timeline? Been a while so I really don't remember all the little bios and stuff.
  3. Jesus, what the fuck is going on at Naughty Dog? I think I'll go ahead and cautiously lower my expectations for Uncharted 4. For sure. Reminds me of all the departures from Irrational in the year leading up to Infinite's launch. Not that the game was bad but a few things clearly went wrong during its development.
  4. The best serious theory I've seen so far is that it's Jason Todd. Would certainly fit with the guns and red on the armor. I'd much rather a twist like that than a completely new character, to be honest. And they better follow-up on that Hush thing from Arkham City!
  5. Yeah, the originals are among my top games ever with Thief 2 being the best stealth game ever made, imho. And I'm still enjoying it a lot. It's not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and some mind-boggingly stupid design decisions were made with it but it's still a solid game. Shit, I'd even say it's a solid Thief game. It's no Human Revolution, that's for sure, but it's certainly worthy of the Thief name. It definitely didn't deserve the shitty reviews it got.
  6. Hahahaha shit, they didn't even bother to remove that bit? That seems like a really stupid oversight. But I guess it falls in line with other reports of this version being somewhat half-assed. Apparently they built it on top of the original, unpatched version of the game. Can't really think of a good reason why they would possibly do something like that... Oh and I was wondering, the game's been patched since launch so have you noticed if these issues have been fixed? http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=140389 The last one with the car looks better in the DC, IMHO, but the floor texture bugs(?) look pretty bad, especially Jensen's apartment floor.
  7. Hahaha, if I have something I actually need to talk to them about I will but they can always pause and rewind those and I know that. With games you're lucky to have a save you can reload just before the cutscene triggered. More often than not you'll have to redo some gameplay section. Or just simply won't be able to go back.
  8. Yeah, I mean, I can understand how a non-gamer might not get it at first. But after I politely ask you to be quiet for a bit, if you insist on talking anyway then I've run out of patience and will just tell you to shut the fuck up. And when it's happened with the same person repeatedly, I just skip the polite part and tell them to fuck off right away. Fucker, do you not learn? Worst part is the people I live with have the worst timing imaginable. If I was paranoid, I'd think they just stand outside my room and wait for the worst possible moment to come in and talk to me. You'd think that by now they would know not to interrupt when I'm just watching the screen and listening to people talking. And it's kinda hard to explain to a non-gamer the difference and why "This game I can pause the cutscene but this game I can't. Oh and this other game I can't even pause when it's the playing part." But yeah, I'll just close this rant by saying pausable cutscenes should be an enforced industry standard. I don't care by who, just someone do it!
  9. Deus Ex: The Fall. How the fuck did people manage to be disappointed by this? I mean, it's a buggy, half-assed iOS port, yeah. So what the fuck did you expect? Did you think it would magically turn into something else when brought to PC? Did the 10$ price tag not tip you off that this wasn't going to be anything remotely comparable to DX:HR? The way people have been flipping their shit and asking for refunds, I just... what? What kind of delusional retard went into this with high expectations? I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised. I've been finding myself increasingly annoyed with gamer "outrage" lately so this is just par for the course, I guess. Some gamers really need to learn to manage their expectations. Anyway, I expected shit and went in with an open mind and I ended up actually enjoying it a lot. It's like a shit version of Human Revolution but it felt Deus Ex-ey enough that the music and atmosphere provided enough enjoyment for my 10 bucks. The gameplay is somewhat the same but much shallower, the levels are small and the enemies are dumb braindead. But being an augmented badass just doesn't get old for me. My main complaint would be that I only found out this was Part 1 after buying it. I don't think the Steam store page makes any mention of that. So after 6 hours you're left with an unfinished story and a cliffhanger and AFAIK there hasn't been any word on whether or not Part 2 is still happening. If it is, then I'll definitely be grabbing it as well. But for now, it made me really want to replay Human Revolution. Might give the Director's Cut a shot once I'm done with Thief. Oh and it only allows one save. That's pretty bad. I realized early on that my quicksaves were overwriting my checkpoints so I learned to be careful with them. But someone walked into my room and started bugging me with some stupid shit during the final cutscene even though I made it clear that I needed them to be quiet for a sec. So I just alt-F4'd out of frustration but the game still autosaved and when I fired up the game again I could only start new game plus. Had to look up the cutscene on youtube. :/
  10. I've had it pre-ordered for over a month but I was still on the fence. I mostly pre-ordered as a precaution since Atlus usually include a bunch of sweet bonus stuff with their first prints and with these niche RPGs you never know how limited the initial run will actually be. Anyway, the demo came out yesterday and I just gave it a run. This game is fucking weird. But I liked it so I think I'll be keeping the pre-order. This one's going straight to the summer backlog, I think. I've been putting off getting it for a while but it's 10 bucks on Steam and I had a bit of cash left this month. I gave the demo a shot and it looks pretty damn fun! On sale for like 1,75$ on the humble store. It was the only Hitman game I was still missing. Really glad it's finally available on Steam.
  11. Haven't played it yet but that's good to hear considering this is likely the last "true" BioShock game we'll ever get.
  12. Yeah, they probably got most of the content out through the patch. Smart move, honestly. The patch has been live for almost a month now. Plenty of time for even the less active players to have downloaded it by now. I imagine they didn't want thousands of players hammering their servers all at once and repeating the launch disaster.
  13. Stupid Amazon is still "Preparing to ship" my copy. I've got other stuff to finish first so I'm not in a hurry but it still kind of annoys me. That's what I get for being stingy on shipping, I guess.
  14. Shit, completely forgot that Burial At Sea Part 2 dropped this week. Between Deus Ex: The Fall, Thief and now this, it feels like an overload of my favorite classic series. Granted, some of them aren't quite matching the usual level of quality but still, fun times!

I haven't played System Shock, just talking about old games in general.

  15. No, it makes Ethan the worst person here.
  16. Oh, come on! Now you're just being silly. The gameplay is the best part of MGS4. Even an hardcore MGS fan like me got sick of the cutscenes in that game after a couple playthroughs. Honestly, GOH, at this point it just sounds like you simply don't like MGS all that much. I'm really not surprised that MGS3 would be the one you'd still find enjoyable despite that. It's the least MGS-ey MGS game, if that makes any sense.
  17. Gahahaha, man, I told myself I wouldn't pay more than 30$ for it, ideally even wait until it was sub-20$. But I didn't expect that would happen within a month of launch. It's 25% off on GMG, you can stack a 20% voucher on top of that and adding in the 12$ of store credit I got from my Dark Souls II pre-order, it came down to a nice little 20 bucks.
  18. Lol. No, it really isn't... If it's the only one you've played then you're just talking out of your ass. I'll concede that, other than MGS1, it's probably the only one that could be enjoyed as a stand-alone experience. But if your intention is to get into the series as a whole then it's an absolutely terrible entry point. You'd understand the plot enough to enjoy the game but so much would be completely lost on a newcomer to the series. MGS3 assumes that you're familiar with the events of MGS2.
  19. What part of "Don't even think about!" do you not understand?
  20. You're overthinking it! Just get MGS1 off PSN now and go play it. You make lawyer money and it's like ten bucks. Don't even think about it.
  21. No, Cowboy! Bad Cowboy! edit: Goddamnit, you guys. No. It's the first chronologically but the series is meant to be played in release order. There's a lot of self references and the continuity is built to be best understood in that order.
  22. Well, I certainly wouldn't advise jumping in with Ground Zeroes or anything like that. But you were able to go back to the original Splinter Cell trilogy, so I think you'd be able to handle Metal Gear Solid just fine. I wouldn't say the gameplay is dated, it's mostly the controls and camera in MGS 1 and 2 that are weird. But they always felt kinda weird to me and aren't that hard to get used to. MGS3 lets you switch between classic and third-person camera on the fly. Just grab the HD collection and go from there (or the Legacy Collection if you feel confident you'll want to play up to MGS4). I'm not sure if HD Collection includes a voucher for MGS1 but I think Legacy does. I would suggest playing MGS 1 on your Vita but unfortunately I heard there's some kind of sound glitch affecting it right now so you'd have to play it on PS3. If you don't mind blocky PSOne graphics, then getting MGS1 off PSN is your cheapest means of giving it a shot. It's worth it for the story alone, imho. If you get into the story, then you'll probably end up just blasting right through the rest of the series. I wouldn't recommend skipping MGS1, but the series is so heavy on exposition that you'd probably be fine if you did.
  23. You didn't like it enough. Also you think Resident Evil 4 is bad. And I vaguely recall something about you not playing/caring about Metal Gear? That's enough to see a pattern. A pattern of failing to recognize undeniable quality. To sum it up in a single video:
