You know, people often accuse games like Street Fighter V of being in "early access" because they're lighter on content than they would've liked and that's usually fucking dumb. But I've been reading on what's been added to FFXV and what's included at launch on PC that wasn't on consoles and holy shit. The console release might as well have been early access. This is one of those rare instances where I'm actually really glad we got such a late port. O_o

Factorio. I guess? Doesn't really feel like I've "beaten" it or that I'm anywhere near done with my base but I launched a rocket with a satellite into space, which is the current victory condition. No idea if it's final or if they'll add more to it before it leaves Early Access but I think I'll use this as an excuse to step away from the game for a while because holy shit. To call it a time sink would be a massive understatement. At one point in the late game it started feeling a little tedious maintaining everything and fixing all the problems that came up as I was upgrading my factory. Then I said fuck it and built a goddamn train to more quickly traverse my gigantic base and just like that I was hooked again. I technically "won" the game but I can still think of a bunch of shit I could do to improve or expand my setup. Starting all over again on a new map is also very tempting. I'm actually looking forward to doing a new run eventually (maybe once it leaves EA) because my save file's actual playtime was closer to 50 hours (~15h was spent on the "campaign", which is basically a glorified tutorial, and I also restarted my proper game once because I realized my map was shit) but there is an achievement for beating it in under 8 hours and some people have it. So it's definitely doable and that just blows my fucking mind. I wasted a lot of time just fucking around or redoing things, so I can definitely see how you could shave off 20 hours or so, especially now that I have a better understanding of how everything works. But 8 hours is just pure madness to me. There's also different kinds of runs I'd like to try. Rushing to robots, never upgrading to solar power, trying that one map seed where you start on a huge island cut off from all the enemy bases, etc.. I said I'd take a break for now but just talking about it makes me wanna fire it up right now. This game is fucking crack. 10/10. Game of the Year. All years. 12/10.

Someone on Era mentioned that it can drop as low as 10fps on a high end card. No idea if it's a common occurence or what the context is, though. -

So, I have no idea where people are hearing this. Probably some less public channels where people that got in the beta are talking, I'm assuming. But apparently Ys VIII still runs like dog shit. Take this with some salt for now, obviously, but if true then holy shit. What a fucking joke lol. If it turns out to be true, then I sincerely hope the game bombs and they get hit hard by user reviews. I feel kinda bad for thinking this but honestly, anything that prevents them from ever working with Falcom again is a good thing. The weird thing is I was under the impression that they had reached out to Durante months ago and that although he hadn't worked on the game at length or anything (no doubt super busy with Cold Steel), he had significantly improved performance. Now I'm wondering if I'm misremembering or if I misunderstood something he posted... -
Been in a Star Wars mood lately. These are way catchier than they have any right to be. And this one is just a genuinely good song lol.

I have idea. To be honest, I'm just happy to see some kind of sign that it's maybe coming soon-ish. The wait has been painful. In the last couple months, I've been really tempted to do a Diamond rewatch lol.

Falcom thread (Trails, Ys, Xanadu, etc.)

XSEED put up a teaser for some of their upcoming games like they used to do. The first two were figured out back in December. First one's some shitty Otome game or whatever and the second one is the Senran Kagura remake. The third one was just found out to be this: So, Ys: Memories of Celceta is likely getting a PC port this year! Man, it seemed like wishful thinking just a couple years ago but we'll finally have Cold Steel and all the Ys games on Steam soon. Kinda makes the whole NISA thing sting even more. Seriously, they better not get Cold Steel III... -
It also had a godawful locked internal rendering resolution. It wasn't exactly a technically competent game. 60fps honestly makes a huge difference for these games.

Trademarks for "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind" have appeared! FUCKING FINALLY!!!
-
There's really no reason to worry. The Dark Souls 2 and 3 ports were very solid. And I don't think Switch is the way to go regardless. Souls is meant to be played at 60fps.

They said it'll be 40 bucks on consoles and to "stay tuned" for pricing info on PC. I'm guessing they might do some kind of loyalty discount or upgrade for existing owners like they did with Dark Souls 2 Scholar.

Holy shit, I don't really do collector's editions anymore but that is one sweet-looking box set. If it came out over here, I might actually be tempted to- *converts from Japanese Yen* -HAHAHAHAHA hell no. At that price, it should come with a fucking PS4.

Falcom thread (Trails, Ys, Xanadu, etc.)

So apparently there's been some Japanese announcement that Falcom and NISA are doing more together. For fuck's sake, no... Ys VIII is apparently coming to Switch, so hopefully it's nothing more than just ports of existing games. That's probably wishful thinking, though. edit: Sounds like someone mistranslated something and jumped the gun, all hope is not lost! -
I'd normally feel like this is unnecessary but let's be honest, I'm getting this day one anyway. It'll be good to finally have a PC version that's not completely fucked without a mod and I'll take literally any reason to replay it.

Factorio has absolutely consumed my entire existence. I can't stop playing it and when I'm not playing I'm either watching youtube videos about it or thinking about what I'll do next in my own base. The game exists at the center of this very specific Venn diagram where Civ research trees, base-building/crafting survival games and Zachtronics-style logic puzzles all intersect and I'm starting to suspect it was designed specifically to kill me. I'm only half joking. I think I have a better understanding now of how people manage to die in those internet cafes horror stories. The game is so engrossing that at one point on my first day of playing a real game I noticed my ass had gone completely numb, looked at the time and went "Holy shit, how is it that late already?!... And for how long have I been starving???" I'm more careful about taking breaks and getting up once in a while now... I don't think I've been that enthralled with a game since XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It's absolutely mind-boggling to me that it's still in Early Access because it's fairly polished and packs an absolute shit load of content. There's a short-ish tutorial "campaign" but the real meat of the game is the freeplay mode and that's a fairly lengthy affair. Even though I bought it during the sale, it wasn't discounted at all and it still feels like a complete steal.

I'm kinda confused by Total War these days. Total Warhammer has been the main focus the last few years but I thought they had already announced the next historical game. If this is the next mainline game, then what's up with that Saga stuff? Small-scale spin-off or something? I was under the impression that it was just a rebrand for the historical games. Quit making so many of these and gimme an Alien: Isolation sequel already!

Really hope I'll be selected for beta testing this time. Getting the game for free would go a long way towards making up for all the bullshit lol. -

I think it's around the time they usually announce their slate of games for the year, so it probably won't just be Ys VIII news. But yeah, if they don't at least announce a release date for the reloc/PC port then holy lol. I'd be surprised if anyone but XSEED ever tries to tackle Crossbell in an official capacity, though. They look just like the Sky trilogy and those graphics are apparently a though sell for a lot of people. At least Cold Steel's more "modern" graphics give it a little more appeal, especially CSIII. But man, to be perfectly honest, if this actually happens I'll mostly be disappointed that Falcom could be this fucking stupid after the Ys VIII debacle. -

NISA have announced a press event happening on February 9. That's what that unexplained feeling of dread you might have felt was likely about. If they once again stole XSEED's lunch (i.e. Cold Steel III), that's probably when they'll announce it. -
Yes, we are in 2018. You've made that abundantly clear!

Falcom thread (Trails, Ys, Xanadu, etc.)
toxicitizen replied to toxicitizen's topic in Multi-Platform Games
Yeah, it's kinda crazy. It got overshadowed not just by all the great games that came out this year but also by Cold Steel. Speaking of which, it seems Cold Steel is selling somewhat steadily (even if a little slowly). It's up to ~35K owners now, which pretty much makes it the best selling Trails game since FC. SC took fucking forever to reach that level and Cold Steel looks to be on track to climb past it fairly soon. It's good to see a Trails game not bomb completely for once. -
Goddamn, Civ VI is the early unlock for next month's Humble Monthly. Instabuy but man, I'm really fucking glad I didn't get it for 40 bucks during the sale.

I should look into writing a twitter bot that sends him a link to this thread whenever you guys bump it. I probably would if I wasn't worried about causing him to come back...

Holy shit, I just noticed that Dean actually gave me a warning for posting in the 2017 thread! I will not stand for such tyranny! Ethan, if you're still planning that coup you have my full support! BAN HIM! BAAAAN HIM!!!

Do you mean the and the "special bond" character trophies? If so, I didn't have to fight him more than once when I played on PC. Because of the way the requirements for it work, I was able to have a few people available on my first playthrough and I was able to get everyone else on my second playthrough with just a little bit of planning. IIRC, the only bit I had to replay multiple times was the section from the bike trip to get the costumes up to the actual scene for the trophies. And even then turbo mode made that a breeze, took me like 20mins lol. This method is much less tedious if you're planning on doing a second playthrough anyway.
