  1. So, my first ten hours or so with the game were pretty awesome. But something didn't feel quite right and I couldn't tell exactly what it was. It played like Deus Ex but something felt a little bit off. I just got back to Prague after a mission and it's nighttime for the first time since the beginning of the game. That's when it finally clicked: it had been daytime the entire fucking time before! What the shit? I mean, this is Deus Ex in a nutshell: You don't set it in the fucking daytime! I better not see sunlight again for the rest of the game, damn it! Also, that song is kind of awesome.
  2. First DLC detailed: Ashes of Ariandel. Coming Oct 25th. Think I'll hold off until all the content is out, personally. I have no desire to do a full replay of Dark Souls III anytime soon and, as I learned with Dark Souls II, jumping straight into the DLC on a NG++ character after not having played for a few months doesn't exactly make for the best experience.
  3. That's nothing. In my game, Adam Jensen broke into his workplace's infirmary and stole all the neuropozyne. Which, if you'll recall, he does not require. Are you sure there wasn't something in the way? if there's a firewall on the path to the node, it'll trigger the trace even if the node has a 0% chance of detection. I got my hacking stealth maxed out early on and I've been hacking everything in sight without any difficulty.
  4. Pretty sure I turned broadcasting off entirely. IIRC, it has a performance impact (or at least it had one when they first rolled out the feature). Also, re:Singh Anyway, so far it's Deus Ex alright. I have 9 hours of playtime but the only main story mission I've done is the tutorial one. Most of that time was spent on side-quests in Prague. Speaking of which, the Prague hub is actually a massive improvement over HR. I haven't been everywhere yet but it's easily bigger than Detroit and Hengsha put together and way more dense. If there's a good amount of missions in decently-sized extra locations like the FEMA base and Tai Yong Medical, then I won't have any complaints about the lack of more hubs. Also, I fucking love that there's an achievement for entering 0451 as the code for the very first numerical pad you encounter. I hope that tradition never dies.
  5. Was it non lethal, though? I'm also trying not to break stealth. The stun gun has garbage range so it's worthless unless you're up close. I'm trying to make good use of my smoke and gas grenades but it's not exactly easy. edit: OMFG FINALLY! Also got the Ghost achievement at the end of the tutorial, so at least I know I didn't screw that up. Not completely sure about non-lethal, though...
  6. Came here to ask the same thing. Been trying to do it non-lethally for like an hour at this point, I'm starting to lose my fucking shit here.
  7. Yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about that. And that's just on Steam. Assuming it performed similarly on consoles (and with the crazy positive buzz it got, I expect it very likely did), a sequel seems like a sure thing.
  8. Disgaea 2 coming to Steam in January! What a time to be alive.

  9. As much as shitting on Valve is fun (and usually deserved) these days, I don't think this one's on them. Pretty sure unlock times are entirely up to the devs/publishers. There's been a few midnight unlocks that I know of, they're just kinda rare for some reason. Unlocks at store update time (which would be 1PM in my timezone and, I think, 10AM in Valve's) are very much the norm. It's probably due to something very simple like that's the default unlock time for all apps and most devs simply don't bother to change it.
  10. I assumed the destruction ending was the one that actually happened but I guess they could mix them all together again, although that would kinda suck. Jensen survived, obviously, but IIRC we know that Sarif did, too. Not sure about the other people. I picked the destruction ending, so it works out for me if that's the one they went with. Isn't that the usual store update/game unlock time for your region? In my case, the game seems to unlock at 1PM, which is the normal time for game releases. Wouldn't mind an unlock at midnight tonight, though. For the first time in fucking forever, I'd actually be able to play all night.
  11. This is probably the last game I'll be able to squeeze in before Mankind Divided so I'll just post it now. Among the Sleep. That would be the horror game where you play as a two-year-old child. It didn't exactly blow me away but it's not a bad way to spend a couple hours. It has great atmosphere and can be genuinely creepy at times. Seeing things through the eyes of a child can make for some pretty interesting visuals. For example, there's a prologue chapter that was released as free DLC and in it there's a section where you go to the basement and the furnace takes on a monstrous appearance, which I thought was pretty cool. It suffered from diminished tension a bit early on because after the first couple chapters it started to seem like it would be more walking simulator than horror game. Creepy things would happen but I'd never actually encounter any enemies and it started to look like I wasn't in any real danger. Then I got to a chapter where a monster did show up and started stalking me and I suddenly turned into a giant pussy. It was great! After that, the game was a bit more tense because I couldn't be sure whether another one would show up or if it was back to just being smoke and mirrors again. Also, that ending was surprisingly dark. Kinda makes me curious to replay the game and pay closer attention to the environment to see if it was foreshadowed more than I realized.
  12. Oh, yeah, I guess I forgot to mention it but it's supposed to be larger than the hubs in HR, with different districts and changes in atmosphere (I assume kinda like when you went back to Detroit in HR and suddenly the place was rioting). I don't know to what extent, though, so I'm not getting my hopes up on it being crazy huge or anything. Honestly, my main issue with the one hub thing is that to me Deus Ex is supposed to be a globe-trotting thing. It's disappointing to hear that your time in other places is going to be inevitably limited. But like you said, I can live with it if it makes up for it by being a really good hub.
  13. Heard a few more disappointing things about the game since. -Prague is the only hub. It sounds like you go on missions in other locations but there are no other hubs, which is a huge bummer. -Seems the game ends very abruptly. Like, just when it starts to get good or something. It sounds like Jim Sterling might have been on to something a while back when he had a source telling him the game was basically artificially broken up to be a trilogy or something along those lines. -Finally, and this one I'm taking with massive amounts of salt because reviews seem to indicate otherwise, but someone on GAF claims to have finished the game in ~12 hours while playing mostly stealth and doing like 90% of the side-quests. I feel like something else has got to be going on here since reviews report playtimes of 20+ hours. Like the guy didn't explore at all or missed a whole bunch of optional content without realizing it. I remember a similar claim about someone beating Dishonored in like 6h before launch (which is definitely doable) but it ended up taking me something like 20 hours on my first playthrough. So, I don't expect this to be true in my playthrough considering my playstyle. On a more positive note, the devs confirmed that they are tracking your decisions in this one. So, should they make another Deus Ex (and if point #2 is true, they better fucking do and not take another 5 years to do it!), they intend to do a save import. Which, honestly, to me kinda gives more credibility to the broken up into a trilogy bit. Seems kind of unavoidable if they intentionally broke up one story into multiple games. I'm still hyped as all hell for it and I fully expect to love it, but I'm going in with adjusted expectations now. Which, honestly, is probably for the better. edit: Oh and the season pass sounds... not worth 30 bucks. Wtf at all that garbage? Praxis kits? Credits?! Those two missions better be fucking meaty, like, Missing Link meaty (5+ hours and a completely new location) because if they're like that Tracer Tong mission you got for pre-ordering HR then holy shit, what a fucking ripoff.
  14. Well, after my quadruple post I figured I should probably stop spamming the thread so much, so I've been holding off on posting until I had a few entries to make. Evoland. Been interested in this one for a while but I think I only got around to buying it somewhat recently through a Humble Bundle. I actually enjoyed it a lot. The story is the most basic JRPG plot imaginable but I thought the graphics/gameplay evolution gimmick was cool enough to carry the entire game. I kept playing because I wanted to see what neat things the game would do next. It starts out looking pretty much like a Game Boy game and by the time you reach the final town you're basically playing Final Fantasy VII, pre-rendered backgrounds and everything. There's even a Diablo-like dungeon in there and I think the final boss was meant to be Ys-like but you really shouldn't try to imitate Ys combat unless your controls are fucking tight, so that one didn't quite work for me. But yeah, overall it's a fun little experimental JRPG. Definitely gonna have to grab the sequel at some point. This could make for a legitimately great game if it was fleshed out a little more. ----------------------- Jazzpunk. I... I think I hated this game. I mean, I dunno, hate is such a strong word. I don't think the game is worth the energy required to actually hate it. But holy shit, what the fuck did I play here? It's basically a non-stop barrage of shitty "omg lol so random xDDDDD" jokes. I can seriously count on one hand the amount of jokes that actually landed, and the game is constantly throwing them at you, so... yeah. The worst part is that there's some cool ideas in there. I actually liked the structure and premise. It kinda felt like a Blendo game, and I love those, but Blendo's games actually have interesting things happening in them. Jazzpunk does not. ----------------------- Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas. This is basically a shittier version of Wind Waker. I think it was originally a mobile game (it certainly looks like one) but it somehow ended up releasing on Steam. I'd heard good things about it when it first came out so I eventually picked it up in a bundle. It doesn't look or play great and it's the most simplistic Zelda clone imaginable. For the first couple hours, I thought it was kinda boring. I also thought it did a terrible job of telling you where you needed to go. But then I started talking to NPCs more and realized that's how you discover new islands to sail to and explore. That's when the game finally clicked and started to grow on me. Turns out the Zelda formula is solid enough that even a shitty clone can actually be pretty fun! So, that's what I've been playing for the past week. Oh, I also got into a bit of an achievement hunting mood and finally did a replay of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons to finish 100%ing it but there's not much to say about that one other than "It's still pretty damn good".
  15. There's a sale over on Bandai Namco's store and it's like 84% off. Brings it down to about 8 bucks, which is the lowest it's been by far. 10 bucks after conversion to CAD was low enough for me to bite. Hopefully this one will fare better than Symphonia did, because I'd still like to get into this series. Especially with the next one also coming to Steam and confirmed to be set in the same world as this one.
  16. Well, it doesn't have to necessarily tie into the original's plot directly (although I wouldn't mind if the D Project was more relevant to the plot). Just have some of those X-Files-y elements in there and I'll be happy. Like, that one side-quest from HR that delves into Jensen's youth and origins where some MIBs show up at the end. That was pretty much where the game peaked for me in my first playthrough. I just want more of that kinda stuff. Also, the review thread on NeoGAF is a glorious read. Apparently, reviews scores are looking pretty low! Also, one benchmark at absolute max settings (including AA) had poor numbers on a 980 Ti or something, so it's a garbage port. Because recommended specs = ultra settings, obviously! I honestly can't tell if it's dumbasses or console warriors (it's GAF so it could go either way), but I fucking love it! Either way, cancel your pre-orders while you still can!
  17. Aww yeah, woke up to my key from GMG in my inbox! That was never in question. Although, the main negative point seems to be the story, which is a little disappointing. HR was similar and I was really hoping this one would be an improvement in that area. Hopefully it'll at least go into conspiracy stuff a bit more. The lack of that in HR was my single biggest disappointment from the game.
  18. Did you miss the part where Mankind Divided treats the Panchea destruction as the canon HR ending?
  19. There's no need for save importing. Deus Ex has a history of deciding which ending elements of the previous game are canon. It kinda sounds like MD is doing the same thing so they could easily just decide that Malik is alive and have her show up. Similarly, Paul could die in the original game (in fact, I assume he died in most people's games considering how unclear the game is about saving him even being an option) yet he's alive and well in Invisible War.
  20. I made the same mistake with Paul in the original Deus Ex. Something something can't get fooled again. I didn't know for sure I could save her but I figured there had to be a way, so I kept reloading until I managed to win the fight. It was particularly annoying on my non-lethal replay last year. If she doesn't show up at all in Mankind Divided, I'm gonna be pissed.
  21. You monster!
  22. I was referring to comments recently made by one of their PR guys. It's what he said they intended to do and this is the first game they've announced since. I can only assume it's a part of that effort. Beyond that, we haven't really seen anything so I'm not jumping to conclusions. It's Konami so I'm not expecting much but that's about it. You seem needlessly upset over this and it hardly seems worth it to me. Maybe chill a bit? Have a cup of hot chocolate or something? I mean, as far as I'm concerned, MGS has already been shit on plenty with TPP. The gameplay was incredible but it was its only saving grace. This doesn't seem particularly worse to me than what Kojima already did with the MGS canon. Or maybe I just don't give a shit anymore...
  23. I have nothing against games like this but that's simply not Resident Evil. I'm intrigued but I'm not getting excited until I see something that actually looks like RE. :/ edit: Thought I might as well update this. I read a huge info dump post on NeoGAF yesterday that alleviated a few of my fears. I haven't been following this one super closely but it sounds like they confirmed a few things. First off, it's not a "hide and seek" game. There will be combat and the player is meant to be able to defend themselves. I guess they just haven't showed it yet? Also, and this is the big one for me, apparently they confirmed that there are no ghosts in the game. Some parts of the demo seemed to strongly suggest otherwise, so that's a relief. The assumption is that the ghost-like woman apparition from the demo is some kind of BOW. My biggest worry was that they were taking not just the gameplay but also the canon in a completely different direction. Introducing ghosts in the seventh game just seemed kinda... stupid. And we're talking about Resident Evil here, the bar isn't exactly high for what qualifies as "not stupid" in the context of the series. I was not on board with ghosts at all. Other details were mentioned like your typical grid-based inventory management and weapon upgrades and what not. But combat and no ghosts are the two major ones that reassure me a bit.
