  2. I take no issue with ads at all in the game. It is indeed not bad at all. I just feel that if they want money from ad's to support the games then they should pass some of those savings on to us users. In fact, I've said before to a friend, I hope they put ads in loading screens to help keep maintenance costs down (for MMOs and such) for us users. I know the companies are in for the money, but they can pass some savings on to us and still make more money supporting ads than they can with zero advertising. The problem with my theory is drawing the line in the sand, there is a point where they become a bad thing no matter how cheap the game gets, but that is neither here nor there... at the moment.
  3. I have no issue with loading screens supporting ad space, but don't expect me to pay full price for you to advertise to me.

"After all, games without ads really shouldn't even be $60" very true, and its a problem that is going to surface soon. But the thing is, at the moment games without ads cost $60 and games with ads cost $60, but games with ads are making extra money from ads as well as the consumer.

I don't want to be mistaken as a disgruntled player, but this is something that I just think needs to be examined. Granted ad-less games tend to cost less to make than ad...

I hope you're right, Atomsk88, but that's also what they said about buying the kind of things you used to unlock as DLC. The practice sure failed to kill Youtube, even when viable alternatives are not hard to find. They've even tried it in games like Wipeout HD.

Actually I saw a banner in DE:HR on Reddit and if I'd bought the game and then these banners showed up later, that would suck. I'd actually be pretty mad about it since Steam would just update it without...

@Rocky, the only reason I think about the PSV in the sense of triggers, is yes the touchpad on the back works, but I would like some feedback from a button/trigger. Either way, i'm not buying a 3DS and will be buying a Vita

    3. RockyRan

      RockyRan

That's true. Definitely goes right back to the whole "touchpad input not as tactile as a button" thing. At the same time, a touchpad on the back is a fine replacement for two extra triggers, IMO.

      madbassman39

Its good for a portable, its just I can't help but think about the penis argument with these two systems now "I have a touch screen" "I have TWO touch inputs" "I have 3D" "I have TWO analogue sticks" "We have extra buttons"

  5. I really think this could be a good game, if they make it more sandbox-ish, then It will bump up from a "I will get this" to a "Gotta have this NOW!"
  6. Squirtle, which I accidentally nicknamed Squirtle, so even when he was a blastoise, I still called him squirtle. He was the only pokemon I ever used to fight. He was level 80 when I went to the elite four, never beat them because my second highest pokemon was a level 10 pidgey.
  7. I said to myself I wasn't going to really talk about my experiences during the event, being a young kid on the other side of the country. I was 14, and was scared, but more scared by the fact that I had no idea what it meant. As the years passed, I haven't really re-watched the videos of the attacks, for no real particular feeling that I need to. The feeling that I had watching it on the news before I went to school, going into the doughnut shop and seeing the buildings come down, it was indescribable. I've never felt so angry, scared, and sad at the same time before, or since really. Today my brother found a video online of people in the same NYU dorm that he stayed at 2 years ago, as the attacks happened. The video was recording the first building smoking, and the girls in the dorm being scared. They saw things fall out of the building, and it was none other than people trying to prevent themselves from burning to death. Watching that all over again brought those feelings back. Then the second building was hit, and the girls recordings reaction was exactly how I was feeling. I realized today why I don't watch those videos, because it brings me back to the same feelings that I felt that day, and you know what? I think people should see them. Not because they are terrible, or morbid, but it helps you experience the feeling that those of us felt watching it on the news from a safe distance. Videos like that will make history lessons real, it makes you understand what the subject matter means. As a first generation American, I am proud to be part of this country, and accept anyone who wants to be part of it, and no amount of hate and brutality will make me feel any different. I'm not a religious person, never really have been, but that night I silently prayed for those victims of that attack, just as I probably will tonight.
  8. Never been into the Warhammer universe, but I really like the idea and setting of it. What books are good to help me start into the series (either 40k or just Warhammer)

      BrainHurtBoy...2

I disagree with Enervation about this. I'd say the MUST-START-WITH book is definitely the Space Wolves Omnibus. It involves a character being slowly introduced into the universe and growing used to it, which sort of parallels the newcomer's road. Not on the level of Dan Abnett's writing, prose-wise, but definitely the best entry point into the universe, hands down.

I'd say the Gaunt's Ghosts series is a nice starter.

  9. My biggest problem with the whole climate change debate is the "Global Warming" name attached. Global Warming is the wrong name, because the whole world isn't warming, the polar caps are warming and melting, which is an undeniable fact. The fresh, cold, water is moving south, making the climate near the equator more mild, and storms more severe. Its also not something new, the climate has been changing for centuries and have been recorded. Are humans causing it? Is it going to be the death of us all? Is there a way to prevent it? Is it a natural change for earth? These are questions we don't have answers to, but what we do know is that there is in fact a change in climate. Honestly energy conservation may not be the answer, but I dont understand why anybody would be against more efficient ways of using forms of energy.
  10. has anyone used crackle.com? Its seems pretty cool, but I haven't used it yet.

  11. Well, this whole 3DS poor sales, price drop and second analogue nub thing with the poor Wii U announcement makes it seem like Nintendo is having a bad year. They'll do fine, but its just fumble after fumble.

Price drops always have a surge in sales the first month. What truly matters is if the sales remain at that level.

  12. I love dungeon crawlers! and it seems like there is a slight resurgence with Dungeon Hunter, Crimson Alliance and Torchlight (1 and the future 2 with MP). Not to mention Dungeon Seige and Diablo 3! Oh happy day!

  13. I can't really say much on the topic, the last time I upgraded a computer was 2005 to make it work with Oblivion, I was using an ancient tech motherboard (AGP when PCI-Express came out a few years before) and bought the best damn graphics card that was available for that motherboard. I had a 2.8 GH Intel single core processor, 3 whopping gigs of Ram, and an 80 gig hard drive. Within the next year or so they went Multi-core processors and I was left in the dust. I never upgraded, because I needed to build a new one from scratch, I never had more than 400 dollars to my name (I started college in 2005, and yes I'm still there) so I could never afford to start over with my computer. A few years later I got a laptop for Xmas, and never went back to desktops. I've always wanted to, until this summer when I made the realization that I probably would still buy most games for consoles because none of my friends know a damn thing about computers. TL:DR => I can't say what the gaming industry on PCs is like any more (still play L4D 1 & 2 on my laptop, a few MMOs and of course the Sims), its sad, but I just don't feel like spending that kind of money on something I will never utilize. The idea that the computer gaming industry will be standardized is ridiculous, especially now when computer games are given better treatment than they were two years ago by developers. Computer games will never be what they were before the 360/PS3 era, but they wont have a standardized system, because nobody uses the computer for the same things. Almost everybody wants a computer to do exactly what they need it to do, and no more because its more money. Its obvious Joel is doing one of two things, trolling for hits, or is blind and has no understanding of what he is writing about.

  18. Wow, I want to jump in and just start railing Joel, but to be honest it wont do any one any good, the guy can't see his own flaws. His response is "Fuck-off" and when you respond with a retort that is way better than that, he bans you. Ugh, it makes me angry
  19. went to my parents storage unit, and got my foot stuck in the elevator door, which closed on me. After struggling to get it out, I complained to a lady who said there was nothing they could do about the door closing with people in the way (which is BS) then gave me attitude when i told her that my foot was in a lot of pain because of the door. I, of course, got very angry and told her that I hope the door is fixed next time I come back and told the lady who was about to rent a storage unit th...

  21. I've been very pissed at Kotaku as of late, the writers can't take any form of criticism, be it constructive or not. Reading this thread has been nothing but satisfying to see other people feeling the same way about Kotaku/Gawker. I can't stand how much they are just getting rid of anybody who has a different opinion. It's always pissed me off as to why I never had a star. I used to comment and make suggestion and did what I could to get a star, but never got my star. It seems these days, I could care less. Although, I do hope that the Kotaku editors are aware of this thread/forum to see how they have affected their community in a negative way. I was shown the light over to this forum right after the terrible site change, and I love it here.
  22. Started reading the Joel comments. Its pathetic. Its almost better to not have a star than to have a star. 90% of the starred comments are insulting people who disagree with people using my favorite phrase "You seem to lack basic reading/comprehension skills." Its absolutely terrible how bad the community has gotten, and how childish the writers have reacted to commenters. Its not just Kotaku, its almost all of gawker. Luckily my experience with Jalopnik has been very good, with happy commenters and happy writers. Its almost entirely in its own bubble and a pleasant change.
  23. I already ripped on this guy, leaving a large paragraph of rambled irritated fueled rant, but seriously you all should just read the last paragraph of his post. Its a typical gamestop brainwash statement. It really put me over the edge where I felt like I should say something. http://kotaku.com/5834002/gamestop-policy-open-your-games-steal-your-codes-sell-game-like-new?comment=42137469#comments

As Mal and Dean said, there's no shame in liking the Sims, I enjoy it from time to time, but another £20-£30 for a few admittedly cool but not imperative additions and it's an awfully expensive game.
