  2. That's what the entire end-game is supposed to be. It's as shallow as the kiddie pool you first start off in the first stage, however, so it falls flat on its face. Except in this case Diddy Kong Racing has sold five times as more copies as Gran Turismo 5 and had millions of dollars more spent in marketing. Spore sucks but that game has sold better than any other video game dealing with space (sim, flight, RTS, etc.).
  3. Honestly, Final Fantasy VII. "This guy are sick." "There ain't no gettin offa this train we on!" "Looking at you is making me sober." "He likes giving speeches, just like his father." "Because...you are a puppet." "...I'll break it off." "You spikey-headed jerk!" "Fire--THE CANNON!"
  4. Uh, what do you call Law & Order? You know, the show that popularized the entire genre? Wiki says Law & Order only popped up in 1990 edit: also there is a slight difference between Crime Drama n Detective Drama. Detective Drama is a whodunnit. Crime drama is a how the cops just do stuff. The Bill versus CSI for example. Don't ever compare a shit show like CSI to a show like Law & Order. The topic is "Who is your favorite TV detective?" not "Who is your favorite 1800s TV detective or PI?" Law & Order gives vital insight on how things are done TODAY. While you are checking the wiki, check out the years it was most popular. Now compare that with the number of police procedure dramas that popped up at around the same time. At least here in America, folks have Law & Order to thank for that. Then you have Jerry Bruckheimer to thank for turning scientists into cops. Bones is such a retarded show it just makes me cringe.
  5. Does anybody have a game that's like EVE but not as incredibly overwhelming? Something, shall I say, more casual? I've never played a game like that before but after looking a while it looks like there are several games of its kind. I'm wondering if there's a free one that doesn't require you quit your job to play it. There really isn't anything else out there like EVE. 90% of it is spreadsheets and mundane tasks. However, there is that 10% when someone will forcefully take over an entire corporation, when massive corporations engage in diplomatic warfare, or when the SA Goonfleet launch hundreds of smaller ships at your bigger ship, overwhelming you with unbeatable numbers. It's 10 hours of gametime, where 9 is the most boring thing in the world (Even EVE players can't stand the game sometimes) and the 10th is the most fascinating, unique experience you've ever had. Most people suffer through the 90% to get to that sweet 10%. There's X3, which is single player, but its 50 times more complex to learn than Eve. Space sims aren't really a big market and any potential devs probably got turned off from Spore's backlash.
  6. So you were preferring that you'd get a Game Over screen when Wrex would take his shotgun to your face instead of her saving you? Interesting logic. "Neutral" playthroughs is Bioware's way of saying if you pretend to be the Buddhist then the shit hits the fan anyway.
  7. It sort of went something like this: ME1: "OMG, Shepard, we are so great together." "YEAH I KNOW." Mega-trust and awesomeness gained. ME2: "Hey, Ash! I'm back, did you--" "OMGWTFRUDOING, YOU JOINED CERBERUS AND DIDNT TELL ME. WELL IM ALLIANCE MILITARY ALL THE WAY YOU LOSER AND I DONT WANT TO JOIN YOU ANYMORE BECAUSE YOURE PART OF CERBERUS NOW AND THE TRUST WE BUILT UP IN THE LAST GAME MEANS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING BECAUSE IM GOING TO BE A BITCH LIKE THAT. SO NOW I HATE YOU SHEPARD BECAUSE IM MAKING A DECISION WITHOUT HEARING YOUR SIDE OF THE STORY FIRST AND IM GOING TO LEAVE YOU ALONE NOW BUT ILL BE BACK IN THE THIRD GAME SO DONT HATE ME OKAY? KTHXBAI." "...fuck you." Mega-trust and awesomeness lost. I think I like Miranda better than her now. I blame the writer for shit like that. Bioware is notorious for railroading plots and dialogue. They weren't always retarded like that and if you were smart enough you could usually talk down most bad guys. Nowadays their logic is, "Well, we designed this awesome sweet fight and paid for the voice actors, so gorramit they are going to fight and experience our hard work!"
  8. No, lets. Why don't you tell me how she's on-level with wanting to exploit, terrorize, illegally experiment, and kill aliens when she expresses NONE of those views. Given how pissed she is that you're working with Cerberus in ME2 and I don't know how anyone in their right mind could say she aligns with Cerberus. She sure as shit doesn't. Ashley DISTRUSTS aliens, specifically turians (and for good reasons). That's about it. She's uneasy about aliens being aboard an Alliance warship that's supposed to be the most classified subject in human military. Oh lovely, the "lol religion" argument. I know I usually act all high and mighty about things written before recorded history as well. Anyway, I hope your biggest gripe with Ash isn't religion or else I fear for how you handle day-to-day interactions with people. Uh, where do you get that she's still carrying a hatred of aliens in ME2? She pretty much rips you a new one for working with Cerberus. I don't remember her saying, "By the way, I still hate aliens." And when did Navigator Pressly overcome his distrust of aliens? His dialogue remains the same, even when you're through most of the game in ME1.
  9. Uh, what do you call Law & Order? You know, the show that popularized the entire genre? On that note, good ol' Lennie Brisco and his one-liners. I miss him. ;_; As for a prosecutor, there's no one like Jack "Hang Em' High" McCoy.
  10. I haven't played the "stories" either but from what I've heard they add little to the game as far as gameplay goes (some new vehicles and weapons). I like to fire up GTAIV every now and then just to use the trainer to cause havoc but I don't think I could stomach the story of some other expansion before I could finally have fun.

  12. It's bad. Just trying to start the game is a feat in its own. The game requires you to join Rockstar Social Club with a working account just to launch the game and then you need Windows LIVE just so the game doesn't crash (it's the game's DRM). You'll need the LIVE account also to save your game. Failure to adhere to those instructions will result in your game crashing after loading. Don't bother with support--they'll tell you it's your fault, to uninstall and reinstall the game, then Steam, then your computer, then buy a new car, etc. Anything to keep you from getting wise that it's not actually your fault. Optimization is garbage. San Andreas makes me want to punch the guy who designed the flying missions in the neck. Luckily there's only two serious flying missions in this game and neither involve planes (although the last mission wonderfully deals with a helicopter). If you have a gamepad I would suggest to substitute the kb+m. Further shitty optimization deals with graphical optimization. I have a rig that takes a dump on GTAIV's recommended listing and it still drops to 20 to 25 frames when it starts to rain in the city. As for the rest of the game, I wrote up a review: http://agdom.wordpress.com/2010/09/24/beeg-amerikan-tee-tees/ I don't recommend it--not even to fans of the series. GTAIV is completely unlike its predecessors. It tries to take itself way too seriously. Not really. There's a popular "trainer" that everyone and their mother uses (including me) which allows you to dick around in the game, but no actual mods. A few people have tried their hand at monumental projects like a zombie mod or an apocalypse mod but those have been abandoned. The game does not have a healthy mod community. It's left in the dust. Rockstar does not (and never has) care about the game any longer. I didn't mean you were misleading but Steam was, like as if they were saying, "Hey, you can get these five games really cheap!" when only three of them are still commercially sold.
  13. That's a little misleading, considering GTA I and II are free (and you can get them for free already off of Steam). III is old-ass news whereas Vice City is the only real gem in that pack. Which, in that case, you can just get it cheaper on its sale pricing (which was about $3.99). That sale is over with though and now they're having a sale on the complete GTAIV pack. Ahh, if only that game didn't suck on the PC...
  14. I don't understand the Ash hate to be honest. The usual argument I hear is, "lol racist" but I imagine that comes from people who don't read the back story to Mass Effect (you know, that one bit where turians show up and start blowing up human ships without so much as a chance to surrender?). That or they are people who specifically believe in Kumbaya Theory (and she doesn't subscribe to that).
  15. I don't think I've actually played a movie game. I'm not a masochist.
  16. So I just learned about Squirrel Girl. Comic books are so weird.

  17. How do these people manage to keep on breathing?
  18. Definitely Just Cause 2. I'm a little surprised by how much I like that game, considering its story makes you want to punch the writer in the neck. The gameplay is just too fun for you to really give a care about the story. Wiring a jet to a car, taking off, wildly trying to keep control, cutting the cord and watching it plummet and explode over a city, etc. I like to give myself self-challenges like low-flying a jet on the highway or landing a 747 on anything but a runway.

I miss Bill Murray. I miss Richard Dean Anderson too.

  22. Oh, Michael Bay. How nice your childhood ignorance still makes it into movies to continue with racist overtones for "comic relief."

  23. I can't believe he's doing it in 3D. I really want to stab who ever started the stupid 3D craze again IN THE EYES. Go back to the 90s who ever the hell you are! We hates it, precious! We really hates it! And of all the damn people too. Have fun wearing your prescription 3D glasses, Peter! Ass. Anyway, I have my doubts about the movie. I've heard the script has changed so many times that it's at some ridiculous stages now. And how the hell do you cast for Frodo when he's not even born yet? And I doubt it'll be in two or three years. I wouldn't be surprised if it wouldn't be until 2015 that we'd finally see part one, given all the delays that keep on happening. Anyway, I keep up with the info on Third Age: Total War's suboard, which has a great thread containing a boatload of info on the film: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=282000 Which mostly comes from theonering.net anyways, so bookmark that as well if you'd like.
  24. In that case then all the subgenres of metal music are ridiculous too. The difference in classification is there for a reason - to distinguish between western cartoons and Japanese cartoons. While some may share similarities, there are far more differences between the two, even if they are both animated. The "difference" in classification is there for a culture that is xenophobic to the extreme. I really don't care what you say, I've been in enough art classes to know the difference between technique and style. Subgenres STILL are of the same genre. Anime literally means animation so this is really a null point here. Just because the word "cartoon" has negative connotations does not mean Japanese animated cartoons gets to be excluded because some people in their thirties like to watch it.
  25. Uh, didn't anime come from Japanese cartoonists who found inspiration from Tex Avery's use of an emphasis on the eyes? Regardless, they are both forms of art and to call them "different" in classification is ridiculous. They're both animated cartoons.
