  1. All will reveal itself in due time. There was a video I once saw summing up the story and what the designers were aiming for. In the end, it makes a lot of sense. I'll feed the video when you finish up, if you like.
  2. Alrighty, might as well post my newly upgraded rig. Can't quite remember every detail, but I'll put what's important. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Intel Core2 Quad Overclocked - 3.0GHz Corsair 4GB DDR3 (4x 1GB) Overclocked (unsure of specific clock rate) EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX 560ti - 2GB GDDR5 Overclocked 580 GB HDD (2x 250GB, 1x 80GB) And a bunch of giant fans to keep it from exploding. All credit goes to my PC guy, he's one hell of a great guy.
  3. EA has a 50% off memorial day sale on the Origin store ending on the 29th. Notable games are Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, and Alan Wake, among others. Most are PC digital download only, but a few are available for consoles and PC physical. Worth taking a look. http://store.origin....Web_Hero_BuyNow
  4. HA, wrong thread, ignore me. Well, actually, on a related note, bought Battlefield 3 on my newly upgraded PC. Runs great. Love my PC guy, did one hell of a job.
  5. Stay the course. As much as I love the game, the beginning can be pretty brutal and tough to get into. It's all worth it in the end. Always be aware of the context, but it seems that saying that is pointless, since you seem to be doing just fine on that end. If you thought that knife bit was crazy, you ain't seen nuthin' yet.
  6. At least the Start/Select buttons seem to be in a better position than the original design. I can imagine reaching for those things becoming very annoying very fast. And while I don't mind the 3DS' analog pad, sticks are always better.
  7. Home...I may have to rethink these 17+ hour nonstop roadtrips...Excuse me, I need to go collapse somewhere.

I did a 22 hour road trip a few weeks ago. Yeeey.

A roommate I had drove 2,000 miles in two days to make it to the first day of classes. He tried non-stop, but we're talking about 34 hours, so he took a few hours of rest in his car. Personally, the longest I've gone is just 11 hours.

But you must tell us, WHAT SNACK DID YOU END UP TAKING?!

  8. So, with my visit home to NY coming to an end, I now face a dreaded 19 hour drive back to FL. I'll need some sustenance for the journey. Any suggestions? I plan to pack some water and samiches, but I'll definitely need more.

Ordinary (not muscle building formula) whey protein powder? Mix a shake and slam it back and you'll go longer before you're hungry again as your body works on the proteins.

    3. FMW

      FMW

Yeah, you need the protein. That's why I suggested nuts. Protein shake is also a good pick.

Take the chocolate covered strawberries that Advent Chaos suggested and blend them with the protein shake that fuchikoma suggested.

  9. The learning curve in the beginning is moderately steep, but you'll soon get the hang of things perfectly. What took me a while was learning the status effects and how to achieve a topple, and nailing down burst affinities and chain attacks. Tons of mechanics, but they do well to introduce them appropriately.
  10. Watched an entire day's worth of Frasier episodes. Yup, this is how I spend my Saturdays now.

I love Frasier. Especially the stupid run Niles and Frasier do when they're in a hurry. Cracks me up every time.

  11. Finished up Xenoblade Chronicles a few days ago. It's rare for me to ever consider a game "great"; even "good" games are pretty uncommon. This one, however, was downright incredible, and will stand as one of the best games I've played in my life, let alone this gen. It was pretty amazing how they managed to build such a big world given the hardware, but they made it work. It just did a TON of things right. Anyone with any interest in JRPGs or even WRPGs/MMORPGs should really consider giving it a try. And if anyone has a rig powerful enough to run this in HD, I would love to hear their take on it.
  12. Finally saved enough to ship my virus infested desktop PC to my almighty computer guy. He's kind enough to clean the system, upgrade and tweak the OS, install some new hard drives, change the casing, overclock the hardware, and install a cooling system. Alas, I will soon rejoin the PC gaming front.

Couldn't just re-install windows? That always works unless you had a hardware failure.

Had no boot disc, and the viruses kept me from making any kind of HDD system recovery. But the viruses weren't the only problem. I'm pretty inexperienced on the hardware side of things, so he offered to give it a good cleanup and overclock, since my hardware is pretty old at this point. And since it's still running on Vista, I could really use the new OS.

We can rebuild him, gentlemen: We have the technology. Better, faster, stronger...

  13. I was going to play a lot longer to finish up side quests, raise affinities, and try to unlock some other trees, but I was afraid that going on would make me too overpowered to appropriately enjoy the finale. Plus, I was at the end, so I just wanted to finish things up. Funny, because while I did overlevel myself a bit, the final boss still posed a challenge for me, which was just the best thing I could ask for in a finale.
  14. I played with the dub. I learned that all enemies are just a bunch of jokahs.
  15. Finished. Currently analyzing where this game ranks with me appropriately, but I can easily say this ranks EXTREMELY high for me. The ending was pretty incredible, in more ways than one, so interpret that however you like. But man, I'm tired...I'll say more when thoughts settle. Final Play Time: 93:07
  16. Heh...heheh...HEHEHE! Duke! I see an awfully familiar name here on the Audiosurf leaderboard that I just annihilated. Thoughts?

Oh, man, it's been forever since I played that game. I remember cheesing the leaderboards by buying explicit songs from Amazon, since they put (EXPLICIT) on all the titles of their songs, and that made it count as a different song on the game.

Then everyone started buying from AmazonMP3, and my name became a laughing stock. A laughing stock, I tell you!

    2. FMW

      FMW

Yeah! His name wasn't a laughing stock before. Not at all. No chance.

Why would you track this respected member of the internet through the mud UA?

It's a cruel world, I admit. And as a member of a cruel world, it's my duty to assure the continuation of said cruelty. Just a citizen doing my job. Where's your contribution, huh!?

  17. You can only get it through Gamestop or Nintendo's online store. I got mine at the Gamestop on my campus.
  18. Alright, so I just got through what was quite possibly the most unbalanced and frustrating boss battle in the game. I thought I was too underleveled to attempt it, so I went to grind until I was 2 levels under the boss, which always seemed to be enough for every boss prior. Nope! The boss is the size of a house, there are environmental hazards around you, and the damn thing will not stay put and push you and your team just about everywhere. Oh, and it summons a bunch of little guys that have status spikes. Lots of prep work and about 5 attempts later, manage to finally beat the damn thing. Shame, too. Every boss before this one always felt challenging but manageable. Points off.
  19. I'm roughly 70 hours in, and it looks like I've reached endgame...I think. Still great, but I'm at a point where the monsters are just starting to piss me off. I only hit about 50% of the time, and most are immune to toppling, so dealing with them is a pain, but I'm too underleveled to ignore a steady string of fights. Oh yeah, and you may want to keep good pace of your side quests. Looks like I went through quite a few points-of-no-return, so a ton of quests of mine will go uncompleted... I'll come back when I reach the end.
  20. 3DS update is live. Not much new, except the ability to create some folders and game patching capabilities. Mario Kart's exploit patch is set to arrive sometime in May. Just a heads up.

Wait, game patching capabilities? Does that mean they did not previous have the ability to patch games? What is this, 2001?

      Strangelove

The folders look ugly as hell. I also dont really trust Nintendo with patches. It takes them forever to release anything. I hope those patches dont come out on their speed.

    4. FMW

      FMW

Well I think the better fear is that now that Nintendo can patch they won't bother taking forever to release things because they can always come back and clean up issues later. I really hope that doesn't become a pattern for them like it has for other parts of the industry.

  21. Packet loss session refuses to repair, and because of that, I am completely unsure if my essay made it before the cut-off. And since it's an online class, this concerns me greatly...I'm hoping that my previous work will average into a passing grade, but regardless, I will continue to condemn my router to hell.

  22. Well, I speak mostly for PC games, I'm honestly not sure if the 360 has games that uses all 3 cores. I do know that the grand majority of PC games try to limit themselves to 2 cores at a time. Using more tends to be problematic and strenuous on the processor, since it has to use more effort to synchronize the operations from each core. Using too many will cause sync issues and bottlenecks the processing. So, processors usually handle work between 2-3 cores while the GPU does most of the heavy stuff. The remaining cores tend to pick up the slack on background programs running. Again, I only speak from a PC standpoint, so I can't say this is completely accurate for consoles. And I would assume that 1st party devs have more control over the specs of their platform than any 3rd party dev out there. Pretty sure that's why the 1st party titles look gorgeous.
  23. You got me there, but it was still expensive then... But even now, most games on the PS3 and the 360 don't utilize the full processing capabilities, so bumping it up to 16 cores is just silly.
  24. http://www.computerandvideogames.com/343191/next-xbox-to-boast-ridiculously-powerful-16-core-cpu/ So this was interesting, but is obviously full of shit. Rumors say that the next Xbox is going to come fully loaded with a 16-core IBM PowerPC processor and a GPU of the Radeon HD-7000 architecture. This is obviously not true. For one, that kind of tech isn't even available for high-end PCs, and AMD only released the 1st 16-core business class processor a year ago, so the likelihood that a game console is going to use brand new processing tech in a console is ridiculous. Even if it were true, can you imagine how insanely expensive that'll make the damn machine? Games don't even utilize quad-cores(current games use 2 cores at most), so 14 cores are just going to sit there uselessly. But hey, spec rumors are flying out, so they always make for interesting reads and speculations.
