  1. True, but it has melody. So many pieces have great arrangement but no melody.
  2. Yes, your brain is built to compartmentalize. It's the way we function in everything everyday. I think the best any of us can do is acknowledge when we're making assumptions based on ethnicity or whatever and actively work against them.
  3. Animal Farm is actually quite amazing. I thought of it many times when I visited China. You will hear school kids tell you that China will be great again if they work hard. Reminded me quite a bit of poor Boxer.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SqdMfyc2p_4 This soundtrack is pretty great so far.
  5. Yeah, What is the immigration status in the UK? Is it mostly in or out?
  6. Santorum just quit. Looks like it's Romney vs. Obama. Can we get a poll up on here showing who we think will win? Not who we're voting for but just who we think will win. I think Obama runs away with it.
  7. Sorry, I didn't so much care about the article but more about how quickly other cultures blend. Here if you were born here you're American. Even if you've been here for a while you're American. The blending process is very very quick. It's the old term "the melting pot". My ancestors were welsh I believe but it goes back quite a bit.
  8. "Where all the white women at?"
  9. I saw this article today. http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/04/10/still_the_least_racist_country_in_the_world_113784.html We have a lot of people here from a lot of different places so I thought I'd ask the question here. What does it take to be known as "British" or "Irish" or "Sweedish" or "Austrailian" or whatever simply in terms of culture. Do people who moved to your country when they were young maintain their old nationality or fuse with your indigenous culture. At least in my small experience in America it's a bit weird. There are a lot of Mexicans in Texas who love America and call themselves American but still wave Mexican flags and celebrate their heritage. It's also very uncommon to really care where people are from just because it's so common to see people from so many different places. I've worked with people from all over the world. Anyway, I'm just wondering. It does seem like people just kind of all mesh together in America still. I was wondering if that's true in your countries as well.
  10. People who are offended are offensive.
  11. I am offended by the b-word. We should be called "procreating americans". Edit: Added the face to help indicate sarcasm.
  12. Turns out having a baby is really expensive.

I didn't even want to think what any complications would cost me.

I thought Texas they just called Doc in and gave the woman a swig of whiskey while she had the baby in the back bedroom. ;)

I'll try that with my wife. It was nice knowing you guys.

  13. The Office may use it more than AD did.
  14. Ugh, the awkward pause was the worst part of the 2000 sitcom. Everyone used it and some shows were wholly dependent upon it. Arrested Development comes to mind. I don't find the tension usually that funny but I know a lot of people do. I'm much more into witty writing.
  15. It's impossible to cover every single thing that people might get offended by. It also doesn't mention that there might be mixed raced relationships but plenty of people would find that offensive. What it does say is: "Players can also initiate brief romantic encounters between characters: dialogue choices are made, leading to kissing and caressing on a bed—sexual activity is implied." It doesn't explicitly state that they are heterosexual encounters. Yeah, this is true. The ESRB does have quite a lengthy write up on the content. I'm not saying that it should or shouldn't be responsible to put it in there. I was only pointing out that EA's official statement wasn't entirely true.
  16. I mean, I wouldn't go so far as to say it makes the game better. As a serious FPS fan it makes it slightly harder to control in ways and that bugs me a little. It does make it different and in some ways better. As an experience it might be better. I honestly need to give it a little more time. Also I tried Tiger Woods on the move briefly. I was impressed by the aiming and frustrated by trying to hit shots softly. I need to practice it a bit more. Pretty cool though. Way better than Wii Golf.
  17. I don't really like Colbert much but I thought this was good. http://www.colbertnation.com/the-colbert-report-videos/181202/november-15-2005/formidable-opponent---torture
  18. So I got the doomsday bundle with the sharpshooter and everything. I confess I didn't bother to play Resistance 3 with it. I probably should have. I've played Killzone 3 with it a bit and so far it's good and bad. I love it for the shooting aspect. It feels very good aiming at people and shooting them in the head. I hate it for sitting down, it's a bit uncomfortable playing it sitting on the couch. The peripheral itself is very well thought out and it's very fun to reload and aim and shoot with it. The biggest problem is aiming adds one more axis of motion to the game. Now you have move, look and aim or really 3 axises of motion. They basically cheat by combining the aim and look into one where if you aim too far it looks which kind of works but actually is a little frustrating at times. In short, I almost think there needs to be two thumb sticks still in addition to this but since I don't have 4 arms it's good but not great. Sadly, I still don't see a way around the dual thumbstick proposition for FPS right now. For just hiding behind cover and shooting it's awesome though.
  19. Yeah, I tried some complete mod but I don't remember what it was called. When I mean rough it was more the gameplay and presentation than anything. I know it's going for that open feel and some people love that but it was almost too open and directionless for my tastes.
  20. I had my wife's netbook up running the Ranger game on ESPN3 while playing Xenoblade on the TV and my wife thought that was odd for some reason. Sensory overload FTW.

Last spring break my wife (then fiancee) was out of town visiting her grandparents I spent literally the whole week with video games (music muted) on one monitor and Netflix playing on the other.

  21. I played the first game for about 10 hours or so IIRC. I didn't really like it that much. It had some good ideas but was too rough around the edges and I don't think they ever got that sorted from the reviews of the other games I read.
  22. Who ordered the London Symphony Orchestra? Possibly, while high. Cypress Hill I'm looking at you! Yeah, those old episodes were such genius of writing. It's hard to ask any show to live up to that level. The old premises were so simple too. Homer gets a snow plow. Lisa gets a talking Malibu stacey and such. The episodes were about a simple premise and let the crazy characters take it away. It actually reminds me a bit of what Bill Waterson said about writing Calvin and Hobbes. He said that he never has an ending in mind when he starts a story he just lets the characters do what they'd do and sees what would happen. I wish Simpsons still operated that way. I think it's clear some episodes wrote themselves into corners that way like "Trash of the Titans" where to get everything back to how it was they moved the whole town 10 miles down the road.
  23. Keep in mind that some of the power may be diverted to that screen as it mostly acts as a remote so I wonder if that hurts the performance of the system almost like trying to run a dual monitor setup at home would degrade performance so even if the hardware is more powerful than current systems it's possible that you couldn't output something better on the main screen. Just a thought.
  24. SImpson, Homer Simpson, he's the greatest guy in history. From the, Town of Springfield, he's about to hit a chestnut tree. DOH! I agree with you Strangelove. Some shows have always been about social commentary like Southpark which is why they're able to go on for a long time but the episodes don't always remain timeless. The Simpsons wasn't originally about social commentary but after 10 seasons of a show you run out of ideas and the show sort of shifted into sheer wackiness or social commentary neither of which really fits the simpsons in my opinion. I saw one about illegal immigration and it wasn't horrible but it just didn't fit the characters. They had to bend the characters in the show to fit the stereotypes they wanted to present and that ruins the show IMO.
