  1. Yeah, I think it's a matter of taste. By your calculation the game was at least 2/3rds optional and that kind of bugs me.
  2. Yeah, US school is pronounced Note-rrrr Dame (as in lady). Cathedral is Notre daaaammm.
  3. This is the straw man right here "Yeah, that's because you guys don't like stoning or burning. But you DO like denying homosexuals of their rights, preventing contraception, calling abortion murder, etc., because those fit your own prejudices and maligned beliefs. You use the Bible as a shield to defend what you personally don't care for, and that's despicable." I spent 8 pages giving you guys examples of what I do and don't believe which go largely ignored only to get to the exact same trite generalization. I know that you don't accept what I believe but you don't even make an attempt to understand it. That's why you just reset to your old straw men arguments to make your points. I did read the Rolling Stone article. It was emotional and not rational. Filled with lots of editorializing, testimonies, hate and other garbage and very little fact. I didn't feel the need to comment on it. If it's not a straw man argument then why not explain to me how it is not? You don't even try to do that. You just go back to I'm wrong and you're right and that's that.
  4. Well, I've already made my arguments for the last 8 pages but it seems you're content to just dismiss it all and keep going with your rants. Keep going on arguing but know you're just fighting a straw man.
  5. It's a cheap media straw man attack filled with cliches. First you bring in the president who cracks jokes and is likeable. He then proceeds to talk but gets choked up because of the injustice in the room. First he decides he's going to destroy the credibility of the straw man by pointing that she has no qualifications. Then he's going to use a simplistic one sided argument to destroy the straw man and the straw man will remain mute and not defend his position. It's pretty by the book and it's pretty weak. It's meant to appeal to emotion more than intellect as anyone should be able to realize that there is nobody actually trying to stone or burn anyone these days. Just for reference. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man_argument
  6. Just trying to make my point about liberal messages in media? Edit: also, that's a pretty weak straw man argument.
  7. Yeah, some of the hostage rescue stuff was pretty cool. I liked that stuff. Here's my problem. Here are all the "collectibles" in one area that is like 1/5th of the game. That's a ton of crap. Too much for my tastes.
  8. I was talking to one of my friends about it yesterday and I think we both agreed it's just that we are too busy these days. If I had more time I'd probably love all the extra diversions but now since my time is so limited I'm just like "why do they have so much extra junk in here. Really the problem with the Riddler trophies is they're all 15 variations on one puzzle. Don't touch the ground, hit all three ?'s in a certain time, just these magnetic things again. It's not just the number of trophies it's the repetition in the trophy puzzles.
  9. I just like the flow of AA better. AC seems like it's 75% side quests and much less focused. I beat the game and I'm only at 60% completion. Probably just a matter of preference. Also I have no intention of getting all 400ish riddler challenges. That's a bit on the crazy side.
  10. I mean, it all depends on your actions and what you deem your responsibility. There is a section in the bible about eating meat sacrificed to idols that basically says if what you do causes your brother to sin then don't do it because you don't want to cause someone else to sin.
  11. To use a more extreme example. If you give a guy a gun and watch him shoot someone with it and do nothing to stop him you're considered an accessory to murder. It's a crime in America at least. I think in this case the catholic church are considering themselves accessories to sin.
  12. Well, the word Christian has come to mean Catholic, Protestant (Methodist, Baptist, Presbyterian), Lutheran, Church of Christ, Mormonism and I think even some Jehova's Witnesses might use the term, not sure. Anyway, it's a broad term for a lot of people who don't belive what others belive (although there is a fair bit of overlap).
  13. I don't know that you could make a direct connection because box office sales are different from home video sales.
  14. So I finally finished the game yesterday. and for the record I still loved the game.
  15. I was trying to find a videogame name for my soon to be born son and can't think of a single good one.

I've actually teased my wife a bit about naming him "Master Chief" and Guybrush.

  16. $15 http://www.amazon.co...29770333&sr=8-2 You have to get the download versions though.
  17. You bring up two interesting points. First off, about Christianity being designed to control people: Clearly any religion can be used to control people if it is distorted and back in the dark ages when the common man was not allowed access to the Bible the catholic church did manipulate its teachings for their purposes. That aside, actual biblical teaching is impossible to control people with. The message is unique from other religions as well. The message of Christianity is that you are saved by God through no work of your own. It is the grace of God that saves you and not your own works. In fact, it's such a sharp message of Grace that Paul even says you can do anything you want and still be saved. Which of course begs the question "why not do whatever I feel like?". Romans 6:1 What shall we say then? Are we to remain in sin so that grace may increase? 6:2 Absolutely not! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 6:3 Or do you not know that as many as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 6:4 Therefore we have been buried with him through baptism into death, in order that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too may live a new life. Basically the message is that you don't find joy in sin, you find joy in freedom from sin, joy in serving God. You can't really control anyone in that because their faith isn't contingent upon anything but their belief in God. It seems as though Islam and other works based religions are far better suited for controlling people. Also, yeah, separation from your personal life and your political beliefs is a very hard thing. Early Christians mostly lived like socialists. They shared everything so that no one had need. Of course they were mostly hiding in fear for their lives too.
  18. Just beat Batman AC. Apparently I was on the last boss on that too. Two games in one day! Woot!
  19. Witcher 1 sat on my drive for about 3 months before I locked in on it and actually got really into it. Great game after you finally get into it.
  20. But you really need to play through it twice. DO IT. I never have time to play anything twice these days sadly.
  21. Bought Witcher 2 finally. It's $15 on amazon.
  22. Just finally finished Battlefield 3. Was pretty decent as far as shooters go. Definitely had its moments.
  23. Witcher 2 is $15 on amazon and comes with the soundtrack and other bonus stuffs. I'm probably not going to bother playing it until the enhanced edition patch drops though.
