  1. FACT: All Scottish culture spawned from Trainspotting.
  2. I guess. Although, considering the style of the film and the pedigree behind it, I'm surprised it would need to generate any more hype.
  3. It has been out a few weeks in the UK already but I just checked and, yeah, seems you guys get it much later. Very odd.
  4. Saw Tintin last night. Great film. Some superb action scenes and some good performances (I think Daniel Craig in particular did a very good job). The only thing I'd say is a bit odd is that it moves at a rather brisk pace, which might be a little off-putting for some, and even when it does let up it's filled with backstory/exposition which is itself full of action. That and maybe some of the character stuff feels a little forced. But, really, no major flaws. Definitely recommend seeing this.
  5. See, I didn't know that. Interesting.
  6. Oh, really? Thanks. Figured with it being pennies and all it might never have been an American thing (not that English slang never made it over there...). Nicked and pinched thing is a slang thing that you might see in gangster films or police dramas. "You're nicked!" is generally associated with The Sweeney, whereas it might be criminals saying somebody got pinched. Sometimes there is that slang that's easy to grasp without knowing the context.
  7. This is our home > leaving this place.
  8. Because I used it elsewhere, I wanted to know if 'penny-pinching' made sense to Americans. It means to be either very careful or very stingy with your money. Wasn't sure if 'pinching' could also mean stealing/nicking to Americans. As if someone would be going around stealing pennies to save up money. Which leads onto 'being pinched' also meaning 'being nicked', as in arrested. If you've ever seen episodes of The Sweeney or Life On Mars, this might make more sense. But essentially you could be pinched for pinching or nicked for nicking.
  9. No, this is all backwards! Hipsters are supposed to like things before they're popular not after. Or are games like buying vintage clothing? HELP ME INTERNET I AM LOST HERE. As far as buying games goes, I'm generally in the same camp as Ethan. I pretty much buy every game that interests me on release and wait for price drops on ones of which I am not certain (definitely glad I waited on Enslaved and even then I felt it was too much ). Of course, I'm just fortunate enough to be able to do this now. I was a penny-pinching student at one point.
  10. Who do we have to blame for...I mean, welcome, who is your boyfriend?
  11. I quite liked Good News, Bad News by David Wolstencroft (creator of Spooks). A sort of dark comedy/thriller about two spies put on the same post (without knowing) who then both receive an order to assassinate the other. And, yeah, The Last Wish is a very good collection of short stories. I'd recommend it even if you didn't know about the games but liked fantasy stuff. And Past Mortem is an enjoyable light read. Depends on whether you like Ben Elton or not though.

Is that like being flammable and inflammable?

It is exactly like that. Flammable = will catch fire for a good reason. Inflammable = will catch fire for bad reasons.

"you mean INflammable means flammable? what a country!"

  15. I think it's shrunken the text down a lot, which I guess falls under font, but it does make a major difference when compared to Skyrim's masses of wasted space.
  16. Yeah, that's the one I used. Couldn't remember the name. Point being, it seems a bit odd to compare the default Skyrim UI to a modded Oblivion one (if that's what you're doing). Although, I guess Bethesda really should've learned from it.
  17. Oblivion's default map was bad, but is Skyrim's in some sort of 3D? I'm not disagreeing with Skyrim's menus looking bad, but is that not a modded version of Oblivion's that you're showing there?
  18. I won't pretend to know much about the game but I've heard complaints about more than the mouse-clicking stuff. There's a reason I said terrible and broken. Admittedly, my perspective might be personal fatigue with menus and upgrade systems though. I'd like to hear from players though: does it not come down to 'streamlining' the game? Rather than having an overwhelming amount of (possibly underwhelming) choice, it is all given significance. Again, not played the game but it sounds like you can still create varying characters and play how you like without screwing yourself over. Are there not enough options there or would it just be nice to have more?
  19. "The menus are so terrible and broken. But I want more spells and customisation in them." Reminds me of that joke from Annie Hall: Two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions."
  20. Damn customer asking about the 10-year guarantee on his flooring. Told him the receipt is the proof of purchase, to which he says "I don't know if you'll be around in 10 years though". Buddy, you're 82. Chances are, the manufacturer and/or you won't be around then. =p

He wasn't inquiring as much as being awkward. He has an invoice with all the details and will have a receipt when he's paid for it. It's all covered/guaranteed automatically. Doesn't need to start questioning the longevity of our business. =p

Does he know that every warranty/guarantee is limited to the life of the company? If a company no longer exists, they can't provide the replacement. This is how all warranties work.

Well, yeah, there's that, and the fact that he has a manufacturer's guarantee if it did need replacing. He was just being fussy but I found it funny because of his age.
