  1. Oh, I totally agree on that. For example, it's not like Mario's been getting by on his story all these years. I think it was David Sirlin who talked about the 'feel' of a game being of great importance (with regards to Street Fighter in particular) and one of the original God of War designers ran a little experiment on jump latency across a few games. I have to say, while I agree with the rest, I felt GTA IV's shooting was at least alright. It worked in the context of the game and you could get into some wicked gunfights online. The running in GTA IV felt alright too, but I do fucking hate all Rockstar mini-games; even though they clearly have a serious hard-on for them. I know about the Tim Rogers 'Types of Friction' thing but, while he makes some very good observations, a lot of his descriptions are very loose and I don't see it as a well thought-out authoritative approach. Recently, I've been a little bugged by The Witcher 2's responsiveness. I'm starting to think the console version would really need some serious tweaks. It's not terrible by any means, but I can't see your average console gamer putting up with the latency issues it has.
  2. I know someone who absolutely loves Fallout 2. And, from what I've read, I think the way it deals with choices and such sounds pretty cool.
  3. Woah, had to look that one up... Here I thought Real Genius was his first major role. Interesting. I have to make a point of trying to watch that next week. Forgot to say. Where are the props for Madmartigan?! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChxzkUA_MX4
  4. What happens when Game of Thrones meets Arrested Development.
  5. Yeah, I see what you mean as regards to different types of powers but I'm sure there's a better way they could've worked it out.
  6. Yeah, inFAMOUS controls work OK for climbing about a bit but when it gets hectic during a battle you'll often find him too 'sticky'. Also I remember a particular area where I tried to jump onto those power lines that shoot you up except he'd jump at the wall to the side instead. The system is a bit flawed. There is that power for a higher jump in inFAMOUS 2 (for good at least) but I never used it because you constantly have to switch between that and an actual useful power for that particular button (even though there's a quick-swap menu it's a nuisance). That was another niggle I had. Too many powers across the same functions. For a higher jump they should've made it a quick double-tap of X or hold it down for a second. I mean, they gave static thrusters an exclusive button so that should've been treated the same way.
  7. Man, trying to quickly dodge about is a real pain sometimes. Maybe this is common knowledge but is anyone here aware that you can actually zap a chain-link fence a bit then drain more energy out of it? Comes in handy in powered-down areas, that's for sure.
  8. Goshdarnit, I knew they would be, but some of the early career songs in Green Day: Rock Band are pretty tough on drums.

  9. OMGWHAT? I never... You merely inferred that. I'm just in love with Yvonne Strahovski's voice, and Miranda's an alright character. Especially compared to Tali, who's a bit too much of a damsel for my liking. I remember reading something Christina Norman said when people were mentioning 'permanent' squad members and that ME3 won't quite work like that or something. Leading me to figure that either: - People will die along the way - As you travel the galaxy you might temporarily team-up with old squadmates rather than have them accompany you the whole time (sort of similar to doing loyalty missions) I can't imagine them not trying to fit all previous love interests into your squad though. Got to please that fanbase.
  10. Figured this was probably the best place for this: http://www.chud.com/57251/proof-that-hollywood-has-stopped-trying/ Tropes, glorious tropes.
  11. I think that's a fair comparison. I just felt Prototype was a lot more fun to actually play. The movement and combat were much more fluid and 'actiony' whereas inFAMOUS was more like a reskinned third-person-shooter. Though the actual substance/story was rubbish compared to inFAMOUS (not that that reached any great heights). The energy-draining thing in inFAMOUS really bugs me and it ruins the flow sometimes. Plus, it took too long to hand you a decent set of powers and you spend forever zap-zap-zap-zap-zapping people. Fortunately, the second game fixes a lot of these gameplay issues but I've still found it even buggier than more recent BioWare releases (not as bad as Gamebryo Engine creations though). Although, you did bring up Assassin's Creed which is relevant as I think the most important point is that each of these games work in their own context. Climbing in AC is generally very methodical, in Prototype you're zipping all over the place, and for inFAMOUS you're just mashing X to find a decent vantage point to attack from.
  12. The evil ending does sound pretty dumb. Thinking it over, I guess the good ending does sort of work...
  13. Finished inFAMOUS 2 and got the good ending. So sad. ...but the story across both games makes no fucking sense.
  14. Oh, they're always definite 'first single material'. I can just remember hearing The Pretender and thinking 'this is like good old Foo Fighters'. Then I heard the rest during a trip with a friend and it did not keep up that same tone.
  15. Got this stuck in my head because it was playing in a store. I seem to like the first single off a Foo Fighters album and then not really like the album as a whole. Must have happened with the last three, I think.
  16. Woo! I'd like to thank my hairdresser, my Mickey Mouse mug and that person I pass every morning who is walking in the opposite direction (where are you going?) You helped make me what I am today!
  17. Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
  18. Yeah, I remember that. But it could possibly mean he's not as snooty or educated as someone who would know about those (ie. me). Plus, that was more of a jab at whoever was subtitling the game.
  19. Not sure exactly what I did in that 'playable cutscene' but some serious shit just went down...
  20. I don't know if Zeke in inFAMOUS 2 is supposed to be represented as a bit dumb but he has committed the following: - Saying 'would of' - Confusing horde and hoard - Saying he'll hold down the fort Of course, the first two are only visible in the subtitles. I've noticed people saying 'free reign' as opposed to 'free rein' too, but apparently that's in wide enough usage and I guess, technically, it's OK. Although if you do 'reign' then you pretty much have free rein. You reign regardless of whether or not you are free.
  21. I'm not defending Troy but Gladiator is not exactly original itself. I actually found Gladiator boring as hell.
  22. Maybe you're joking, but I'm guessing he means Troy?
  23. I meant to try Champions Online sometime but I've been busy with so many other games at the moment.
