    My junk

Don't know why I'm bothering to share this, maybe I'm looking for some encouragement. Ah, what the hell... Once, I used to be an aspiring scriptwriter. But many factors soured my enthusiasm: lack of talent, crap British TV fiction, other commitments, need of money. I still like to write a bit, as a hobby (because none of this stuff will get made). Sometimes, I'll apply for the odd script-editing position or the various new writer competitions. To no avail. I'd really like to write for videogames (and I've been told I have a talent for dialogue) but they're not easy to find and you can't just walk into those sorts of jobs. In case you were interested, here are a few things I've written (the ones I'd be prepared to share). Any feedback is welcome! And if you notice some shared jokes or similarities that's called a 'unique voice' NOT being a lazy-ass writer. My Own Worst Enemy This is a sitcom I started writing as part of a course a few years ago. Didn't really think I had a talent for comedy (maybe I don't) but I'd been watching a lot of Seinfeld, and loved Peep Show, so I'd been keeping note of 'observations' (as Larry David did) and trying to turn that into a comedy. I wrote two episodes that a guy at the BBC quite liked, but the bastard never gave me a job or any sign he'd be interested in hearing more from me... I remember finding it amusing while proof-reading, but I bet I'd cringe if I read it now. Episode 1 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9621731/Scripts/My%20Own%20Worst%20Enemy%20-%201.1%20-%20Second%20Draft.pdf Episode 2 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9621731/Scripts/My%20Own%20Worst%20Enemy%20-%201.2.pdf The Powers That Be This was sort of inspired by Heroes (season one was alright), but also some comics I'd been reading. It's actually supposed to be a comic script, and was initially for a friend who was working on illustration (and loved comics) to play around with (hence, no overbearing visual direction). Issue 1 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9621731/Scripts/The%20Powers%20That%20Be%20-%20Issue%201.pdf Issue 2 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9621731/Scripts/The%20Powers%20That%20Be%20-%20Issue%202.pdf Issue 3 http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9621731/Scripts/The%20Powers%20That%20Be%20-%20Issue%203.pdf My friend never bothered doing anything with it (another story of failure for me!), but I think maybe it had some OK ideas? SuperZeroes This is the latest thing I've kinda been on and off about and writing more as a hobby. Started it about the same time as TPTB, so my friend had something a little more playful and classic-styled to work with. Once he'd showed no interest, I started working it into a sort of screenplay format. I have a lot more planned than is written here (and it needs a good clean-up really), but I've been busy with the writing about games stuff more recently. So, yeah, it's not a very long script so far, not a lot of story, and maybe only Smooves will appreciate this one... http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9621731/Scripts/SuperZeroes%20Script.pdf I've got other scripts, but I figured maybe this is more interesting and better showcases what I do. Uh, enjoy?
  5. Bastard Shepard may be one handsome son of a bitch, but I don't think I should've made him an Adept...

I don't like that these biotics hit walls and obstacles more than the enemies; for my team AI it was always insta-hit =/ Getting up close and personal is for other classes. I think my appropriately evil Bastard should've been Soldier.

I guess I could. Only just on Omega and going for Mordin. Combat hasn't been challenging (even the bit with flamethrower dude and charging Krogans). I just feel kinda useless compared to my teammates...

  6. I think Vanguard got 'Pull' but I never really used that; which is what I assumed you meant. And I believe they took 'Throw' away from the Vanguard. Shockwave is the 'make everyone in its path fall or flip over' power.
  7. http://kotaku.com/5714261/the-finest-form-of-flattery The one bit of journalism that Kotaku tries to do and a terrible newspaper has to go and use it.
  8. Just Cause 2 is awesome. And with its current ridiculously cheap price on Steam, definitely a worthy purchase for PC gamers.
  9. He was good in Kick-Ass. And I hear Bad Lieutenant utilises his 'skill-set' to great effect. Really want to see that. Also, I remember seeing some funny article of 'Nicolas Cage's Guide to Finance' or something ('Buy stuff. That makes them assets. You want assets.') but I can't find it now.
  10. True, it's essentially a console port, but I doubt the PS3 version will be better than the PC. It may not appear major, but everything looking smoother is always nice and really makes a difference.
  11. I'm bored and have a few minutes to spare, so here's my top five 1. Mass Effect 2 2. Halo: Reach 3. Just Cause 2 4. Red Dead Redemption 5. Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit (even if there are PC troubles, it's a lot of fun. But it could've been higher on the list.)
  12. Looks kinda like Pheerme and Cloowney's lovechild actually. (No offence) Welcome!
  13. Not that you'd really care, I thought Road To Perdition was good. Very predictable, but still good. And everyone loves Tom Hanks.
  14. I remember seeing this game as a kid and finding it hilarious you could just walk around in a wet suit, Groucho Marx glasses and cowboy hat. Oh, the simple joys of childhood. One of the earlier LucasArts adventure games.
  15. You know, I was actually surprised by American Dad too. Family Guy has been pretty rubbish for ages, so I wasn't expecting much (completely avoiding the Cleveland Show because of it) but I caught a few episodes of American Dad and it was actually pretty good. It had some half-decent 'stories' and twists as well as the funny stuff. Even the 'parody' episode I saw was quite good (whereas FG's tended to be awful).
  16. For some reason, I think I had a dream about some hilarious status update that everyone would love. But when I woke up, I had forgotten it. So you get this.

I dreamt of turtles. Denzel is hardly as majestic as these noble creatures. frollicking in the sand, gliding on currents, carrying nunchucks..

      Such magical creatures..

  19. Might as well ask here. Has anyone else got the Kasumi DLC? Is it worth it?
  20. The Wire Firefly Community NYPD Blue Spooks (S1-3) Peep Show Arrested Development Seinfeld The Office (UK and US) Futurama The Mighty Boosh My Name Is Earl Frasier Father Ted Chuck Castle The Adam and Joe Show I do sometimes quite like to watch some CSI or Law & Order.
  21. To weigh in on the whole class choice thing. I chose Vanguard in ME1, because that was a mix of combat and powers, and I wanted to try out the powers. I used Garrus for tech stuff and Wrex...because he is cool. For ME2, I decided to stick with Vanguard. But that woman from BioWare lied (OK, told a half-truth) about the Biotic Charge (which I don't believe any of your teammates get, so there ). She said it can get you out of trouble...except you can only target enemies, plus it could be a little picky about when it will work. Still, once I levelled it up it was fun and it did actually save my life a few times; plus the class got weapons I liked (SMG and powerful handgun), while I had no need for anything else. Even though I used them a lot in ME1, Shotguns felt unnecessary; while I remember assault rifles being a little unrealiable and sniper rifles being awful (although, they probably work well for the right classes in ME2). For teammates, I took Miranda (for a bit of biotic and tech) and Zaeed (for armour-damaging stuff) but later switched him for Garrus. Of course, a lot of the game revolved around balancing a team for loyalty missions and I actually found during the final mission (where I sent Miranda as a leader) that Jack, with her Shockwave, also made for a good replacement.
  22. Dean's avatar. Awesome. Suggest Ethan adopt ME2 one also. Yes, good idea.
  23. Nice shots, Smooves. Link does not work though. I've really enjoyed the game...from what I've played of it. I got the PC version (looks gorgeous) and it keeps crashing...and their patch broke my workaround for the crashing while not actually fixing the issue. Criterion are complete asshats when it comes to PC programming. Figured they would've learnt by now...
