  1. There are differences between the two types of relationships; to suggest otherwise seems disingenuous. That said, no matter what your personal beliefs are, everyone in the US has the right to "the pursuit of happiness" whatever that might entail, and insofar as no one else's rights are infringed upon. I'm not sure where government & some people in the US get the idea they need to go around controlling everybody's personal choices, including marriage.
  2. Well Super Tuesday's not for another month, and a few scattered states have primaries after that even I believe. Now that Paul's chances are diminishing, it's pretty clear we're in for another 4 years of Obama, as there's no chance Romney will beat him.
  3. Other M is great. Don't beg Nintendo to do something different then complain when they do.

Hater here. The gameplay was interesting, but it's hard to support that when the plot is such misogynistic bullshit. That is all.

don't forget about the baby six. Because samus sure wants you to remember that the baby is the baby of the baby the baby

P4, I don't think I've ever agreed more. Other M is a great example of why devlopers should NOT listen to their fans.

  4. Bought these 2 for $2 total @ the thrift store.
  5. $10 @ Gamestop, couldn't pass it up. $20 @ Gamestop, kid wanted it.
  6. Well the article is from the National Review, not exactly renowned for its balanced editorials.
  7. Can't agree with this more. The reason this is such a hard question is it depends when you think "life" begins. We all agree it's not okay to kill a born baby, but at what point is it no longer up to the mother whether the life growing inside her lives or dies? My personal belief is that since it's biologically a totally unique individual the combination of whose genes will never again exist, it's not okay to simply terminate it. I see where the difference in opinion comes about though, especially since it's growing inside a mother and the issue is entangled with her civil liberties--where does her body end & the baby begin?
  8. Beat Kirby Epic Yarn co-op with my son. That was a blast. And finally finished every Spec Ops mission on Veteran in MW3. What a ride.
  9. Not sure what our plan for infrastructure is, but I'd love a thread (maybe private?) where we could brainstorm article headlines/ideas.
  10. Yeah, I mean those are really detailed, but the ones I posted are more just quick-ref and great for first-season watchers. Also gotta say I love Tower of the Hand & highly recommended for following along with any summaries or characters whose names you may not recognize.
  11. If cell phones were ubiquitous in 1990, Seinfeld would have no plot.

      Cell phones ruin EVERYTHING!

  12. Anyone experiencing decreased battery life?
  13. Steamworks has no effect on where you can buy the game from.
  14. Lending is another interesting point. As you say, with DRM-free PC games there's nothing stopping you from lending it out to as many friends as you feel like. For that matter, with Steam games there's nothing stopping you from giving your (very very good) friend your login info to try out or borrow games in Offline mode. An aggressive no-used policy would kill the ability to lend or borrow far beyond what the PC has done.
  15. I can't emphasize enough how far removed the markets are from one another though. We're talking about a physical product with a sweeping elimination of all used sales, something the PC market hasn't even seen (check out any single-player game on Amazon and you'll still see a supply of used copies for purchase, lots of which still work depending on DRM). Once all copies are out of circulation you are reliant on purchasing a sealed copy from a middleman or grabbing from the digital storefront if available, at which point the console manufacturer is for all practical purposes able to charge whatever it feels like. I almost want MS to do it just to observe the undoubtedly fascinating market unfold.
  16. The problem with this line of thinking is that we don't know if that would be the case for the games market sans used copies. It could very well be that eliminating the secondhand market would drive up the price for used new copies and sustain higher prices longer as demand for those copies rises. Edited out mistake
  17. The PC to console comparison doesn't work for a few reasons: PC has a massive back catalog spanning 20+ years that you can buy & sell used. MS would not have that advantage. PC's digital distributors regularly have sales due to fantastic breadth of competition. When Medal of Honor 2010 cost me $5 I don't even know or care if I can participate in the used market with this game. MS would not have this advantage as it's a single distributor on the digital front. PC has a thriving piracy community. I am much more likely to buy a game if I know that there is a safety net comprised of a massive network of computers hosting a backup/cracked copy of the game I can access if necessary. PC games tend to cost less even without sales, from 12%-15% less depending on the game and publisher. Though I cannot resell a PC game, the financial risk is generally lower. Simply put, the PC's open nature makes the new game-only model actually make sense. Note too that not every game even today is like this, and many (single-player) games you can still resell. Edited for clarity.
  18. Ah, Cave Story+, you've stolen my heart

    1. Enervation

      Enervation

Don't worry, Final Cave will steal them all back. Mark my words.

    2. Cyber Rat

      Cyber Rat

Excellent game. Fuck you for the true ending.

  19. Nearly half of game design is just getting the "feel" right. If shooting is fun it can make up for crap level design.

      Johnny

Hard Reset's level and encounter design actually ruined the game for me and no amount of good-feeling shooting could make up for it.

Also, for as much love the original Deus Ex gets, I've never managed to get past the introductory level. I far prefer Human Revolution. /heathen

    3. toxicitizen

      toxicitizen

Liberty Island, you mean? Yeah, it's not a great opening level, to be honest. The game only really hits its stride about a third of the way through.

Ok, "crap level design" was too strong. Good feel can help make up for a bit of mediocre level design :P

  20. He's just the same sort of sensationalist journalist that places like Kotaku use to generate page views. Doesn't mean he can't hit things on the head now and again, though his methods and tone are as usual fallacious and antagonistic respectively.
  21. RE: Revelations demo is fun, but a limited launch demo? What is this, 2002?

it's 30 plays, surely that's plenty for anyone to decide if they want to buy the game, and even long enough to keep you entertained until the game price drops

    3. P4: Gritty Reboot

      P4: Gritty Reboot

In practice you'll probably never use it 30x... But it does feel archaic.

    4. TheFlyingGerbil

      TheFlyingGerbil

well, it is Nintendo. they seem always to be a mile ahead or a mile behind in everything.

  22. Yeah I seem to recall a few of the deals over the holidays being converted across the pond better, but the straight dollah to pound is stupid.
