  1. I've a weakness for SP shooters. $5 was the sweet spot.
  2. It's a shame Epic Yarn has almost no challenge to it. It's gorgeous, and Kirby's a blast to control.

With the different gameplay styles (even a mini-shmup) your little one will get some experience in a couple different genres in one game.

I kinda wish there was a "big boy mode" in all Kirby games. Super Star Ultra kind of had that, but it still wasn't challenging enough. And no, I'm not talking about "1 KIT KILLZ LOLOL" or any crap like that.

I seem to recall Jim Sterling saying it has a harder 'optional difficulty' to do with collecting all the stuff. Sometimes, I prefer that sort of thing. Like, Sonic Generations isn't especially difficult but there's that element of improving your time and finding secrets.

  3. Why would a game's being enjoyable be objective? I'd say that's the real subjective part.
  4. $10 used on Amazon w/ free Prime shipping. notbad.jpg
  5. MASS EFFECT: THE ULTIMATE COMPLETE EDITION [does not include Weapon Pack 1, 2, & 3] XD --- Bought Dead Space 2 on Steam after unanimous recommendation here on PXOD.
  6. Interesting to play through Zelda, Witcher 2, and Skyrim simultaneously. They span the spectrum of open world emphasis vs. tight gameplay emphasis.

The Witcher 2 is probably the sweet spot... but Zelda is super-engrossing because of the combat and superb dungeons, and Skyrim is just addictive b/c of the leveling system.

I still don't understand all this "ZOMG TEH ZELDA!" shit.

  7. Just picked up A Dance with Dragons so we'll see how accurate the pissed off Amazon reviewers are.
  8. It's loyal to the book in that way! Keep this handy for reference, spoiler-free: EDIT: And below is my favorite Westeros map to track the books/series. Note that Dany & co. are across the Narrow Sea to the east on another continent. A fuller ASOIAF map can be found here but it's a little more unwieldy for following the bulk of the events in Westeros.
  9. Hrm is either Dead Space worth it for $5 on Steam?

Dead Space 2 is certainly worth it. I got bored to tears with Dead Space 1.

      Faiblesse Des Sens

Dead Space 2 has more action and a more direct storyline, Dead Space 1 is more atmospheric and scary and survival-like.

I definitely liked Dead Space 1 and would say it's worth $5, haven't played 2 yet.

  10. So sounds like a one-time activation... that's not a killer for me, but definitely going to sit it out and see how it goes.
  11. A ballad in honor of MetalCaveman & my shared birthday -

  13. There are several things at play when people complain about that kind of thing. First off, if I'm reading a news site and my wife/boss/slavedriver walks by and sees a "news" story about kinky stuff going on in Japan flashed up on the frontpage, it doesn't look good. Plus, I don't really want to read that kind of stuff. To an extent, I agree with the idea that articles that don't interest you can simply be ignored, but at the same time, there's a limit to the tolerance for that sort of thing. At some point it begs the question of why I can't simply read a site that posts the same volume of articles but a higher percentage of content that will interest me. Energy put into crummy articles is energy that could have otherwise been spent on gaming-related and relevant material.
  14. I'll take it if no one has yet, ADW. I do love me some campy shooters. Hit me up on Steam.
  15. Stumbled across an older K article on RAGE. Interesting read in hindsight. http://kotaku.com/5826646/rage-is-the-id-software-comeback-ive-been-waiting-for
  16. This issue gets muddied and confused a lot of the time, with some conservatives equating the internet as a human right to the government's providing subsidized internet for all. The internet is a human right inasmuch as it corresponds with free speech: in the same way that the Constitution guarantees US citizens the right to free speech but does not provide the pen or paper with which to exercise that right, so the internet is an extension--but not a freely provided tool--of the Bill of Rights. Edit: In other words, the government doesn't have to foot your internet bill, but they must not restrict internet access.

  20. Props for putting in the effort to write a full story. Seeing a narrative to a conclusion is a daunting task, as I'm sure Saturnine can vouch for. A few notes on the excerpt: I would tone down Derg's dialect. It's hard to read. As HH pointed out, there are basic spelling and grammatical mistakes--while I realize it's a draft, make sure to fix these as if you send it to a publisher they will not even read it if they see those early on or very often. (Not sure if you're planning on shopping the manuscript or not) Some of the dialogue & prose reads a little too typical "fantasy" I feel. Stuff like this: "Lord Berrin does not stand a hope in hell! His forces are as wild dogs with collars upon their necks. No slave army of Laigann could hope to challenge my knights and dream of standing victorious. His death at my gates is inescapable! Then his lands are mine for the taking! Gwahahaha" or "You will wallow in the depths of poverty and servitude and you shall never, so long as I draw breath, receive so much as a fief in my kingdom" It doesn't sound as someone would really talk, fantasy or no. Many of Ruark's lines are more grounded and believable. With regards to what HH is saying about the flood of information, it may help to just unpack that kind of info over more paragraphs. Also, consider showing the reader these things rather than just backing up the Dump Truck of Background Info into his lap and and unloading. For instance, "Leesha was not a popular choice among the peasantfolk of Namethia." Then show us the peasantfolk of Namethia cursing her and calling her all sorts of horrible Irish slurs! It would be more enjoyable; plus, when you have a concrete scene like that, the information tends to burn itself into the readers' brains rather than forcing them to juggle a list of factoids. On the positive side of things, your prose is good and certainly with some cleaning up could tell an interesting story over the course of the novel. The narrative, while early on obviously, has all the dramatic pieces in place to set up an intro that will hook readers. I'd also ask whether you'd considered trying to get some short stories published--those in the know often say that going straight for the jugular with a full-length book doesn't work for most authors (though not saying it won't for you.) Note: Not trying to be overly critical or anything. Hope I didn't come off that way. Just want to lend a hand so your writing can be the best it can.
