      Might as well then.

  2. First two were part of Toys R Us buy one get one 50% off sale, $90 total wasn't too bad. What IS too bad is that it's a Christmas present from my wife so I can't play either one until the 25th. Minecraft Pocket Edition is just 10 cents today so I sprang for it.
  3. Hardened is difficult. Again, maybe BLOPS was different; I don't know. I usually play through COD on Hardened for just the right level of challenge, though I replayed MW3 in Veteran as well. The problem here is that for years we had terrible, useless AI companions in singleplayer games who would die at the first sign of battle, so Call of Duty came along and wanted to give more of a full-scale war with AI friendlies who actually did something. In an actual battle, if you chicken out and hide behind a pile of sandbags while the fighting goes on, the rest of your unit will probably go ahead and win anyway. Maybe in some cases, IW/Activision haven't found the balance between letting you be the star in the action and making you feel like a smaller part of a big war.
  4. The Game Boy Advance one? Yes, the Game Boy Advance one. GBA backlog FTW! I'd owned that since I got it as a random gift six or seven years ago Maybe now I'll even get back to Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga! Or FINALLY beat Golden Sun 2! (I've tried like a million times, I swear) Ah, that was the first GBA game I bought. I didn't really like it, though the card combat was pretty cool. I wasn't a big fan of the "level design" the way it generated those maps though.
  5. If you're in on gift exchange, please update your Steam wishlist (a few people haven't touched theirs)

@Dean yeah, i added a few over the $10 limit knowing some will come down. I have a couple on there that are way high but those I've had for a while

      Mr. GOH!

Okay, okay, I'll update it this evening. Valve didn't make their wishlist function very snappy and user friendly. *grumble*

  6. BLOPS may have been like that as the video indicated; MW3 seemed less so surprisingly. What I'm saying is those scripted setpieces are bad and boring, but they don't comprise anywhere near the majority of the gameplay. The actual shooting areas are quite fun. I do think it's lame that they put that FOLLOW dot above your squad leader's head as though you're not capable of remembering who it is you're supposed to follow (BF3 did this too I think).
  7. Yeah but I'm not sure what notable distiction there is between "a rollercoaster" and "animated dioramas" and linearity and lack of freedom. Isn't that the same complaint? In most areas of MW3, you have the option of which of a dozen guns to carry, whether to charge up the middle, take the left or right, risk taking the charge or pick off enemies from a distance, etc. It's nowhere near the freedom offered by lots of other games, but it's far from the description Walker gives it--aside from the scripted sequences of course, which were in my opinion the worst part of the game.
  8. He's welcome to his opinion of course, but the argument over "un-game" is a silly semantics debate. It's clearly a video game (most of it anyway--you could argue that the canned events and in-game cinematics are not) that does a great job at what it was designed for. Kotaku AU kicked the whole thing off but RPS probably should have just left it.
  9. Yes, update your Steam wishlists; it's the easiest way for the person to find out what you might want. No complaining allowed if you get a copy of Elf Bowling you forgot you had on there.
  10. "That's the game's fault for not making it obvious." It's pops up on screen every time you approach an enemy. How much more obvious could it be? And how could you miss that, P4? I think I turned off all prompts early on in the game because it made it broke a lot of the role-play illusion. Haha, that would explain it I guess! Also picked up the Terraria 4-pack to join in on the party like all you cool kids.
  11. Gah wish I had gotten into the beta. Not sure what you mean by the movement thing, but I'm sure I'll feel the difference having played CS for many years back in the day.
  12. Saw Tower Heist with some free passes that wouldn't work with the Muppets. Eddie Murphy was surprisingly funny, but the plot was a little too ridiculous, and it's a slow builder. Worth a rent/netflix/torrent later on I'd say.
  13. Haha don't scare me like that. I'm just trying to be a big jolly Santa Claus Thanks for the conversion rates--also, we moved the date to Dec. 20 which should give yall some time with the Steam/other guys' holiday sales so you may want to wait. And by the way, I think you can buy a Steam gift and have it emailed to yourself so you can PM it later. Not sure on this but if so, then you can buy something on sale before the 20th then gift it that day.
  14. Everyone who signed up should have gotten a private message by now with your giftee's information. Please feel free to PM me if you have any problems at all.
  15. Any Brits/others have some good, bold hot tea recommendations?

    2. WTF

      WTF

it's winter go with Masala Chai. Generally tea is an awesome subject. I have very specific likes and dislikes when it comes to tea. For instance the taste of tea that comes from turkey is a bit iffy though their coffee is great. Assam, Darjeeling are great brew. Also tea leaves are vital for any strong tea brew. But since it's winter I'd recommend Masala chai since it's awesome :)

So how do "you people" make your tea?

I love straight English breakfast tea... I can't be picky about brand because it's 10x less common than various fruity tisanes and green teas around here.

I usually steep black teas in boiled water, personally. Green teas, 3 minutes in just sub-boiling. Steep green and it gets too bitter for most.

  16. Forum drama and religious discussion? Add in some cat pictures and i think we'll officially be a part of the internet!

If you mean the religious discussion, I thought it was quite civil.

Oh yeah, I meant Revanchist's comment about how you wanted to miss it.

  17. There's nothing quite like eating real cheese. Some of the dairies here in central California have shops attached where you can pick up fresh wheels; we always stop in when we drive up that way to go camping in the Sierra Nevadas or whatever. But yeah the Kraft singles are pretty bad--do Brits have crap like that?
  18. I found out about the Q takedown key about 2/3 of the way through my playthrough.
  19. Ah, Supernatural's my guilty pleasure show. Such enjoyable camp.

      toxicitizen

I could never really get into that show. :(

It certainly wasn't bad. I watched all of season 1 and half of season 2 a few years ago. But I never felt the urge to keep watching. So I didn't. :/

Seasons 1-3 were pretty good; the newer stuff is kind of meh. You probably caught the best of it anyway.

  20. Not to get too off-topic, but the outdoor levels were mostly fantastic in Halo:CE. The indoor levels were at once labyrinthine and restrictively linear, as well as repetitive. The level design had shining moments like the assault on the control room and the early sections on the Halo, as well as low points like some of the Halo's interior structures and the Covenant ships. Still a fine game though, and to be more topical, compellingly replayable even though it offers little new each time.
  21. I've beaten Diddy Kong Racing on the 64 probably a dozen times. Only takes me a few hours now; it's like a comfort food. I've also played a lot of Halo: CE just because the combat is pretty enjoyable, even though I rarely play the online and the level design is often balls.
  22. Bought the Super Mario 3D Land / red 3DS bundle for $179.99 "for my son" wink wink nudge nudge. Funded by my mother-in-law. Also picked up Lego Star Wars III for the PC for $6 "to play with my son" wink wink nudge nudge.
