  1. I read in an interview that it wasn't a business decision to go onto PS3 at all. A few of the workers at Valve had some experience with PS3 and independently got Portal 2 code working on the platform just for kicks, and they went ahead with it because the guys were passionate about it. That led to Steam support and the like.
  2. But I don't think it's consistent across the games at all, regardless of the east/west flip. I mean, Lake Hylia's at the far south, Death Mountain is at the northeast in OOT. TP is completely different either way. Also stumbled across this FWIW, though i just think the timeline/consistency isn't something Miyamoto is particularly concerned with.
  3. The funny part of that is it's not even 1:1 control, so it wouldn't really be that awkward to swing with your right hand and see Link swing with his left hand. Has Hyrule ever had a consistent layout though? In the Wii TP, Kakariko/Death Mountain is off to the west, while Lake Hylia is in the east. Castle town is in the middle. In OOT, the castle's at the north, Kakariko is northeast, Hylia's to the south, if memory serves correctly.
  4. Rock Paper Shotgun, PC Gamer. I really can't stand a lot of the other sites, though there are some good writers at some of them. Honestly, community feedback is a bigger influence on me than a professional review, though I do like a few of those sites for previews and news before a game's release.
  5. Yeah I mean that's already true. I just beat Twilight Princess and am playing Wind Waker now and they both still hold up, mostly due to art direction.
  6. Did you play OOT at the time it was released? There were some pretty "wow" moments back then, but playing it now they're pretty tame. The first sunrise in Hyrule Field, the burning of Kakariko village, the crumbling Hyrule Castle at the end... all very gorgeous at the time.
  7. That's the crux of the issue there, Dean. The fact that you have to opt-out of the filter is pretty bizarre. Should be an opt-in for parents or whoever doesn't want the pornz.
  8. But there's an art direction thing too. TP is more than just an HD (well SD but HD in comparison) OOT. Saturation, colors and contrast are pretty different, though yeah if OOT were made today it would be in the same general category as TP as far as graphics. Ocarina was more dull in terms of pallet whereas Twilight Princess went for very dark darks and very bright brights.
  9. Red Steel 2 is probably the best Motion Plus game tbh. It's more like a first-person Tony Hawk than a shooter. The Tiger Woods games are also supposed to be good, but I do like Wii Sports Resort also.
  10. Twilight Princess often gets lumped in with Ocarina, but I think I'd disagree. It's very oversaturated (especially in the Twilight areas) and has a pretty unique aesthetic overall. It does go for the quasi-realism like OOT I suppose, whereas Wind Waker is balls-out stylized.
  11. Meh, co-op's always been good when Bioware's handled it, so I'll approach this one optimistically. As someone smarter and quicker than I pointed out above, Portal 2 added co-op to great results, so why not ME3?
  12. Really hard call. I'd say Wind Waker works for its storyline and feel, whereas Twilight Princess works for itself (truly a gorgeous game too btw). Ocarina and Majora were in that funky early 3D stage that didn't age well, but they were decent enough for the time. Really have to see how well SS's visuals work with its gameplay and overall presentation.
  13. Why would anyone cancel a pre-order over this? Just play the singleplayer game and ignore the co-op mode. Really, the major reason is anti-piracy I'd say. Multiplayer is a big incentive for purchasing a legit key.
  14. I do believe Nintendo has traditionally released consoles and big games on Sundays. Not always, but often.
  15. Any GOTY candidates for YOU PEOPLE so far? I'm thinkin Portal 2 or Jamestown

Yeah, I'm actually really not regretting buying Witcher 2 day one. If anything they're rewarding people for being cheapos and waiting.

They're rewarding people for not trading in their...oh. Well, it's earning them goodwill anyway and that counts for something.

I am contractually obliged to say BF3. Portal 2, Dead Space 2 or FIFA 12 are acceptable alternatives.

  16. http://deltagamer.com/18161/6-vs-goes-3d Frickin awesome news. May pick up a 3DS soon if cool indie games keep coming over.
  17. I'm particularly interested in the supposedly revamped dungeon system. Apparently there is some new structure to the game vs. the traditional dungeon - overworld dichotomy from before. I do love the art and very excited about the fully orchestrated soundtrack. I'm partway through Twilight Princess right now, and other than the annoying Wolf sections it's quite good, so I'm pumped for this one.
  18. Right-click "gameplay" -- click "add to dictionary". Should have done that a long time ago.

That reminds me. I just added "online"

  19. Cool. I'm looking forward to it.
  20. To be perfectly honest, I've been doubtful of RAGE since id said they wouldn't allow anyone to playtest it with a keyboard and mouse. That has far-reaching implications for verticality and other level design elements. Ah well, may pick it up on a sale.
  21. The article below bugged me more than it had any right to. First off, Kirk says the RTS genre "doesn't lend itself to the sort of political machinations and storytelling" of ASOIAF. Now, I could rattle on about RTSes with great storylines, or pick on the fact that RTS/TBS are perhaps the only genre that can do much in the way of major political happenings, but instead what really irked me was his dismissive attitude toward the game in question. The RTS is extremely loyal to the espionage, sabotage, and political intrigue of the novels. The verdict's still out on whether it's any good, but the author of this post clearly had not played, watched anyone play, or perhaps even read the Wikipedia article on AGOT: Genesis. He closes with: "I'm heartened to hear that Cyanide is working on something that feels closer to the spirit of both Martin's books and the excellent HBO series." He's referring to the RPG, which earlier on he says he "confirmed" that Cyanide is working on it. BREAKING NEWS. Trouble is, they announced it 2 years ago and have had it on their site (there are even some early screen shots floating around) for who-knows how many months. Shouldn't have let the small things get to me, but they did. Le sigh. I'm not a perfect writer either. So I will complain in this thread and forget about it. Thanks for letting me get things off my chest. http://kotaku.com/5845578/the-game-of-thrones-rpg-is-actually-happening

It's deep, but maybe overly complex for a real-time game. Hard to say early on.
