  1. Not much of a "tabletop day" for me. Easter weekend means a busy family. I did squeeze in a solo run of Talisman, a solo play of Lost Cities, and a quick 1 v. 1 Ace of Aces duel.
  2. The designer designed only one other game but it was received well, so hopefully it's good. The publisher has done Summoner Wars and Mice & Mystics which were reviewed well also. No way to tell until someone gets his hands on it, but it's definitely a "designer game" (read: not Monopoly).
  3. http://www.plaidhatgames.com/news/226 Now I'll be on my merry way before I get spoiled for a game I won't play for a year in all likelihood.
  4. Was Gears of War on PC terrible? Is there anywhere I can get it for less than $20?

I'm surprised it's still 40 bucks. FUCK that shit, it should be 30 at most by now.

It's 7 years old, it should be like $7.50.

  5. That is an awesome motley pile of board games. I started my collection by buying at thrift shops, so mine didn't look too different from that at first.
  6. Anybody with BioShock Infinite.. would you kindly PM me your Steam password? For academic reasons.

  7. I walked into my 4-year-old's room and he was watching an anime called "Squid Girl". Thanks Obama.

Yes Saturnine that appears to be the one.

      Haha. That's squidding amusing.

  8. I'm not sure what it is yet and I'm just finishing the second world. New mechanics introduced at every turn, loading screens and numbers and flashy crap, busier graphics, bad controller support... the first game was such an elegant little thing and this feels like Bit.Trip Runner Turbo DX HD Remix Edition in comparison. I don't know. There's still fun to be had there though.
  9. Current favorite is Gears of War the board game. The game is very very well done, though setup can be a chore. I've beaten the first two missions and gotten utterly crushed on the third (I think there are 8 or 9 including Horde Mode).
  10. Now playing XCOM and it's crazy good. Bit.Trip Runner 2 is... okay. Still trying to finish up Serious Sam 3. And just got to level 12 in Borderlands 2 co-op with wifey. She's hooked.
  11. I had to have "the talk" with my son...

What are you saying Rev, Naruto games are great.

The Batman Arkham series says hi.

Though it's depressing that good licensed games are the exception rather than the rule. :(

      *pretends to believe it*

  12. I've restarted Crysis, Bioshock 2, and Dead Space 2. Not sure why I can't seem to finish what appear to be fine games.

Yeah, Bioshock 2 isn't a bad game but the "magic" is gone.

That being said, the story is actually very good and there's a section near the end that I thought was pretty amazing.

I thought the same thing about Dead Space 2, that the magic was gone.

I still haven't finished Dead Space 1. Really need to fill in the back story on that franchise.

  13. I was given a Windows 8 laptop at work. It's the most slipshod piece of software I've used in a long time.

I actually like the tiles... but it boots me to the desktop to do anything useful. I'm willing to give a new paradigm a shot, but then why does it feel so much like patchwork?

It's trying to please everyone. Modern UI for people who buy $300+ Facebook machines. Desktop for the rest of us.

Yeah... I wouldn't say it's a different beast at all. I'm using Windows 8 at home and I wish my work laptop has Windows 8 too instead of 7.

  14. Hi I'm looking for the thread where we can complain about Dean? Did I find it?
  15. Well I started playing this last night. I didn't notice a huge leap over the first Borderlands in terms of quality at first, but perhaps that will reveal itself in time. We got to level 7 and it's the same fun grindy shooty game as before.
  16. $1 on Android, highly recommended for abstract strategy fans: One for me, one for the wife on Steam:
  17. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife, cause we got a rampaging ex-cop killin' everyone up in here.

That's not a rampage. Also, wow. Someone's trigger-happy: "Later in the day, on-edge Los Angeles police fired on a vehicle they mistook for Mr Dorner's, injuring two innocent women who were delivering newspapers."

      P4: Gritty Reboot

Cops are very jumpy right now. Shot a 71-year-old woman and have shot up 2 vehicles. Yeah not really a "rampage" (what's the rampage threshold?) but he's talking big anyway.

    4. Saturnine Tenshi

      Saturnine Tenshi

Six people makes a rampage. Six. Also rampage-type killing. But even more wow. I only read about the one vehicle.

  18. Ugh, half-price Borderlands 2 on Steam today. My problem with these types of games is I need to buy TWO, one for me and one for the wife. $60 does sound a lot more tempting than $120 though. If only I hadn't spent most of my PayPal funds on wargames...
  19. Catan is good. It's a little bland due to the theme, but there's a lot of depth and strategy there.
  20. Yes, it's a ton of fun and I usually hate Risk. You need 4 victory points to win instead of taking over the whole world. It works like this (at least before any bizarre rule changes in future packets we haven't opened yet): Haven't won a game before? (you sign when you win, so if you haven't signed the board yet): Start with 1 VP Your starting HQ is worth 1 VP Occupying an opponent's HQ is worth 1 VP Turning in any 4 resource cards (1 gained every turn that you carry out at least one successful attack): 1 VP If small resource deck runs out, player with most territory gets 1 VP at that point. So in the first few games you actually only need 2 VP, which is pretty easily accomplished without feeling too short. If you can't get anyone together for a full Legacy campaign, most of the core gameplay is integrated into Revised Risk, the currently on sale version with the arrows on the front. That game plays in an hour or so.
  21. Early games play in 30-40 minutes, so you never have a chance to amass huge armies. It's very quick, cutthroat, and confrontational. Turtling to save up armies loses you the game fast. Also, it's more like an RTS in that you have a "spawn point" where all your initial armies and HQ start, rather than spreading out across the world as in traditional Risk.
  22. Had a great night of board gaming last night. Here's Dragon Quest Slime Race: And here's the carnage of Risk Legacy:
