  1. And so begins the Steam Holiday Sale of 2012. Rejoice in the super deals, despair for your thinning wallets!

I, however, will not be separated from my money. I uninstalled Steam completely the moment the Sale started. Get me with an impulse purchase NOW Valve!

My strategy is to have no money. It is working thus far.

  2. Thanks for Torchlight 2, FLD! Haven't gotten a chance to try it out much, yet, but it looks pretty fun! Edit: Played for a bit last night. Oh yes, I know how I'll be spending my cross-country flights
  3. How's this running on everyone's PCs? Thinking about getting it and wondering what level of beauty I can expect from my GTX 570
  4. Steam ID and wishlist: http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197969619762/ My GOG name is MrGOH. No idea how to link to my profile or wishlist there. Will update if I figure it out. Background: Mostly a PC gamer these days, though I do play console games. I have little time to dedicate to gaming these days, though I still love RPGs and Grand Strategy games. That's what meant by background, right? General Criteria: I do not have the time to put into multiplayer games these days, and I'm not really into sports games. No racing games, please. I also prefer well-crafted games with interesting narratives, whether they're AAA or indie games. Favorite game genres: Western RPGs and single-player strategy games are at the top, but I also enjoy shooters with good gameplay and stories, adventure games, imaginative puzzle games, simulations, and stealth games. Favorite Games: Final Fantasy 6, Planescape: Torment, Baldur's Gate II, Victoria II, Empire: Total War, Vampire: The Masquerade, Assassin's Creed II/Brotherhood, Grand Theft Auto 4, Master of Orion 2, Knights of the Old Republic, Fallout: New Vegas, Fallout 2, Sim City 4, Civilization Series, Sam and Max Hit the Road, Dishonored, Batman: Arkham Asylum. Totally chill with getting stuff not on my list. Since my steam wishlist is mostly out of the price range, I kinda expect it. My GOG wishlist is all $10 or less, however. I dunno what "other digital gifts" means. If it means video or music downloads, I'd say that I'd rather receive a game of some sort.
  5. FBD: You mean a standard PC bluetooth receiver? Or is there a dedicated Dual Shock adapter?
  6. Playstation 3 is kinda neat. Still not a fan of using the shoulder buttons to shoot in Uncharted 2 and inFamous.

My fingers are too large for the controller in general, but my index fingers slip off of the triggers far too often.

I've had this problem, as well. Those triggers are hard to find for me. Thanks for the tip, Chewie! I didn't even think to get something to help with it.

You can find real triggers at Gamestop.

  7. I use a cheesy wired Logitech gamepad I got for $20. No rumble, but it works fairly well for couch gaming. I've heard that the Dual Shock controllers work on PC with the right drivers. Is it worthwhile to switch just so I can have rumble?
  8. Just finished a long afternoon of PS3 gaming. GOW1 is fun - I regret missing it during the PS2 era. Dunno why, just didn't buy it back then. Switched to inFamous, a fun game with dated graphics. Played about 2 hours of each. Currently taking a break from UC2. Overall I'm enjoying these games. Can't find my free psn+ code, though. :/
  9. Got the God of War collection, God of War III and Killzone 3 in the gamestop buy two, get three deal. I hope God of War 1&2 are decent HD versions of the PS2 games, which I never played despite being a PS2 owner.
  10. This is the Black Friday HQ, isn't it? I dunno. Rednecks without the southern/western redneck accents. They may have been from Jersey, but they weren't the Jersey Shore kind of tasteless. Lotsa NASCAR gear, sweatpants, and mullets. No ability to control their wilding kids. Seemed kind of stupid from their in-line chatter. The city folks with me in line thought the two redneck families were hilarious or bewildering.
  11. Went to a midnight Gamestop opening in Manhattan to get my $200 PS3. In and out in 20 minutes. The line was short, but slow. There were a three families ahead of me who were stocking up on video games for the next year it seems, buying 20 or so different games for their teen and pre-teen kids (who were also there, annoyingly). Two of the families were the East Coast version of rednecks. What they were doing at the Upper West Side Manhattan Game Stop is a mystery to me. No one bought a Wii U, which they had in stock.
  12. New PS3 owner here. Anything I should know before I set this sucker up tonight? Do I need to charge the controller, or does it work out of the box?

While I've never used it myself because I have a lot of what I want and don't like the idea of games I have disappearing... If you're the sort who'd pay a monthly subscription fee, PS+ really looks like a great way to hit the ground running now. As I understand it, all those freebies in the "instant game collection" will just disable if your subscription lapses.

    4. SomTervo

      SomTervo

PS+ freebies get disabled if you unsubscribe, yeah. But if you resubscribe, even for a day, you get them back instantly. They're permanently on your 'download history' you just can't use them.

But PS+ _discounted_ titles remain unlocked even if you lose your subscription.

PS+ is totally worth it if you have the money/ time dude. It's insane in the membrane

  13. I have a 360 and am an avid PC gamer; I've played all of the multiplats mentioned so far. I'm loving all the suggestions! 3D Dot Heroes, God of War, Flower, and Journey are all for-sure buys at some point. Probably Valkyria Chronicles, too. Gran Turismo is a no-go because I'm not really a racing game dude. Much respect for GT, just not my cup of tea. I'll look into the Ratchet & Clank games (I thought they were MP-only), and the same with the Killzone games. Not a huge shooter fan, but I can dig 'em if they're interesting. Heavy Rain was spoiled all to hell for me. Still worth it? I actually won't be playing Uncharted 1, as I've seen the entire game via a Let's Play I watched while home sick a year or so ago. Diito MGS4. If I like UC2, I'll definitely pick up UC3. The bundle comes with 30 days of PS+. I'll re-up if the games are interesting. I see that PS+ includes LBP2 and inFamous 2 (which comes with the bundle). I really, really, really wish that FFT was free for PS3, but I suppose it's a vita-only game.
  14. I'm biting the bullet and finally getting a PS3 thanks to the 250GB PS3 + inFamous & Uncharted bundle for $200 at retailers this black friday (if supplies hold out). One of the joys of buying a late-gen console is the availability of many, many used games, or low-priced reissues. So I'm starting this thread asking which PS3 exclusives I should look out for. And perhaps post specific deals I could take advantage of. Note: I will already have both inFamous games and the first two Uncharted games. Anything else is fair game.
  15. If they're still in stock by the time I get to Gamestop Friday morning, I'll probably finally be a PS3 owner, thanks to the $200 deal for a 250GB with both inFamous games and the first two Uncharted games.

    1. TheRevanchist

      TheRevanchist

Of the places to go for that particular deal, GS will probably have the shortest lines.

      Mr. GOH!

That's the idea. There's one enar where I'm staying that opens at 5am rather than midnight.

I just worry the bundle will sell out.

    3. FMW

      FMW

That sounds like a fantastic deal! I would buy a PS3 for $200 if it came with, say, all the Ratchet and Clank games. That's about the same value isn't it?

  16. My Corvo just thought he remembered reading in a moral philosophy treatise that zombies don't count. Or maybe it was his reading off all those zombie apocalypse penny dreadfuls as a kid.
  17. Hmm. Well, I guess my playthrough will be of a Corvo who wants low kills and chaos, but who killed a few weepers back in mission 2.
  18. Going for low chaos, and I have a question: does killing or being spotted by weepers raise chaos? I'm used to zombies being consequence-free kills, but I'm not so sure in this game. I'm only on the second mission, so I haven't seen how the game counts up weeper kills. Killed my second guy saving an innocent from being mugged. When I'm out of sleep darts, I usually blink around and sneak up on enemies and give them the ol' sleeper hold. But when this dude lost track of me, he'd murder the innocent before hunting me down. Also: all the talk and pics of Emily really should be behind spoiler tags.
  19. Fuck you, Ubisoft, for delaying PC versions of your games for a month.

Because switching them out would be more work than not switching them out.

    3. deanb

      deanb

Yup. They make larger textures cos that's how the pipeline works. They then scale it down(easier than scaling up) for consoles, then just port the console game over(easier than remaking it for PC)

Just an update to this but x360 version of the game is now out and about on the net.

  20. Save scumming is for the weak, Waldorf. I'm talking "oh, look at me! I'm a little bitty baby! If I don't gt what I want I cry! wah wah wah!" weak.
  21. At least for the games I'm interested in, DLC is of such a low value that it neither entices me nor turns me off on a game. I think if I were into sports games or fighting games I would likely feel differently.
  22. Whatever. It would also make sense if every dude you choke or sleep-dart has a % chance to die instead. /gripes
  23. Project Eternity, Obsidian's isometric, Baldur's Gate-esque RPG Kickstarter, has raised more Kickstarter funds than any other game.

    1. Mr. GOH!

      Mr. GOH!

It's at about $3.6 million at the moment. It's met every single stretch goal introduced so far. There will be a dungeon bigger than Watcher's Keep in BG2 and two cities the size of Athkatla/Baldur's Gate thanks to meeting the stretch goals.

    2. Faiblesse Des Sens

      Faiblesse Des Sens

It's higher than that even due to Paypal.

    3. Mr. GOH!

      Mr. GOH!

I said $3.6 million when it was at $3.4 KS and about $200k on PayPal, IIRC. It's looking good to break $4mil altogether.

  24. The "overseas" argument is ridiculous. Does it really matter whether it mean all foreign countries or just all foreign countries aside from Canada and Mexico? Nope.
  25. Just got Dishonored and have played for a couple hours. Feels like Bioshock to me, and I'm trying not to kill anyone (though I either stabbed someone in the very first level by accident, or it counts the guy I knocked out and then threw in the water as a kill). The environment textures are godawful up close, and the stealth so far is basic Deus Ex-esque stuff. However, the game has a lot of character, and I enjoy exploring the weird worldbuilding. I'm not sure it's a truly innovative game, just an interesting remix of Deus Ex and Bioshock with a neat-o weird fiction setting, like something out of Mieville (Melville?), or VanderMeer.
