They could just, you know, scale back instead of dropping the platform entirely? I don't think anyone with half a brain expects another Uncharted or Killzone for the Vita, but surely they could keep producing smaller, cheaper games.

I mean, I can't imagine games like LocoRoco and Patapon were all that expensive to develop. Why not keep doing that?

A small team can still make more money by developing for PS4 because you're tapping into a larger and more active market. So if development stops completely it's understandable.

Yeah, you're not wrong there. But I still think it's pretty shitty of them to basically drop all support for their own platform after only 3 years. Shit, you could even argue after 2. They stopped trying over a year ago.

At this point I'm just lucky to like those niche Japanese games otherwise I'd be out 200 bucks and stuck with a useless system.

What I've heard is that 2018 and 2022 are set even if these guys all are found or plead guilty and even if FIFA head Sepp Blatter goes down due to some of the arrested men flipping. Switzerland is also investigating, now, and the Swiss investigation is more comprehensive; although the US indictment and case will contain a lot of colorful details regarding the rampant corruption in FIFA, the core lawbreaking deals with bribes and kickbacks and fraud in securing FIFA broadcast rights rather than the vote scandal, I believe, The Swiss investigation is into the World Cup host voting scandal. I may try to attend some of the hearings in this case, if I can get in, as I often work in the courthouse in which they'll be held.
  3. All FFXIII games are garbage and a waste of time, folks. This is known.
  4. Question: Is your horse named after Vernon Roche? I only got to the last act of Witcher 2 (sided with Roche), so is there a joke I'm missing?
  5. So Destiny has finally become a passable repetitive grindfest after 8 months and an extra $45 in DLC? GOTY material, indeed.
  6. The improvements in facial animations are pretty great and really surprised me.
  7. I'm loving the game, too, despite still being in the into area and only level 3. Still not sold on the crafting system and I wish the menu system was less of a hassle.
  8. Just a quick reminder of just for whom, really, Nintendo makes games. http://www.wsj.com/articles/u-s-mutual-fund-becomes-top-nintendo-shareholder-1432277440 Good buy, though; Ninty stands to make beaucoup bucks from pimping FTP smartphone games and even more amiibo junk. The big money is happy that Ninty will be leveraging its IP and making products that appeal to the idiot masses.
  9. The strongholds were originally a much larger part of the game is the feature I best recall being emphasized and then cut out of DA:I. The first previews (in late 2013 or early 2014, IIRC), included a lot of talk about how you approach each big open area and its attendant quest lines would essentially affect how that area developed going forward and would have an impact on the endgame. This included directing the development of each stronghold, including whether each one would focus on trade/diplomacy, the military, or spying. There were even pictures of each version of the desert stronghold (in the lower-level desert region). The whole game was pitched as significantly more reactive than it ended up. This sort of molyneuxing is much more obnoxious that changes in graphics because the game designers should have a good grip on the overarching gameplay design well ahead of release, which includes knowing which elements could potentially be cut and therefore should not be highlighted in previews.
  10. The game looks worse than in the early trailers, but since I'm not a child, I understood that the trailers would not necessarily be 100% representative because trailers for games never are, especially videos created ages before release. Things change during development, and changes in graphic quality are to be expected because it's almost impossible to predict how game will look 3 years ahead of time before it's been fully built, and that goes quadruple for open world games. CD Projekt Red have been open and honest about the whys and hows of the graphics changes, and I find their explanations to be completely believable and I do not fault them for E3 videos from years ago not matching up to what they were able to make run on the consoles and lower-end PCs. If I hadn't gotten it for free, I would have waited for reviews and the inevitable videos of real gameplay and I still would have bought it. I get more annoyed with removed gameplay features when such are pimped a year or so before release. Looking at you, Dragon Age, Inquisition.
  11. The minimum is usually $20 for ATMs, though in poor areas in cities it can be $10. The legislation in Kansas is needlessly cruel, including the $25 daily limit, because Kansas is infected with evil and cruel idiots. Yes, ATM fees are outrageous, though if you're middle-class, they're usually free if you have the right kind of checking account. The poor do not qualify for those accounts, nor would these welfare debit cards qualify.
  12. I like the GiantBomb quicklooks to get an idea of a game and experience new games I might not have bothered with otherwise. Seeing a game in action is a quadrillion times better at helping me decide whether to buy a game than reading about it in reviews. I like funny Let's Play videos, but there are very, very few of them, and I hate 99.9% of video game YouTube videos. PewDiePie is anathema and his popularity disturbs me to no end until I remember that people are, in the main, both idiotic and terrible.
  13. Hey, Ethan; nice state you got there. Not full of evil loonies at all. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/wonkblog/wp/2015/05/21/kansas-has-found-the-ultimate-way-to-punish-the-poor/ Edit: Rand Paul's statement is, to be fair, exactly what his namesake would say. I mean, it's idiotic in its oversimplification of rights and government services, but it's perfectly in character.
  14. Confirmed: Witcher 3 looks better on my laptop than on a PS4/Xbone.

Game still great regardless of graphics = don't care

^Environments are the big difference on console iterations. TW3's world is just insane and the particles are magnificent

I should probably get around to installing Witcher 1 and 2 on my PC.

  15. No bloatware on my new laptop from Xotic PC, actually. It was quite nice.
  16. You mean I have to play 25% of the game as a woman?!?!?!?!? MISANDRY AND AFFIRMATION ACTION AND WHY DO THEY HATE WHITE MEN?!
  17. The first few minutes of that Supergirl trailer are hilariously bad.
  18. I know some of the folks who work at Take 2/Rockstar as attorneys, and I've attended a couple of talks by their in-house counsel about how they balance enforcing their rights as owners of IP and letting customers mod their games, among other IP issues. I am fairly certain Rockstar did not mean to kill mods forever with the update. They may have known it would temporarily kill them, but I do not believe their policies have changed to be anti-mods in general. They really love the long tail modding gives to their GTA PC releases.
  19. A very large number of Americans, if not most of us, understand "going for a pint" and "cheeky," as they are stereotypical British phrases.
  20. I would enjoy it if Konami had an E3 presentation focused entirely on pimping their latest Metal Gear-branded pachinko machines.
  21. banter is a real term and so is ledge. "Banter" is essentially the same as it's non-slang definition, except it means "good-humored conversation and fun, sometimes escalating to teenage hijinks." "Ledge" is just short for "legend," which should be self-explanatory.
  22. Oddlly, I understand the overwhelming majority of those funny explanations in britspeak because I work with Irish and British folks in their early-to-mid 20's who talk like that. But I still do not understand what the fuck "cheeky nando's" means.
  23. Ubitendo? Nintubi? Edit: I guess Nintendo may still be miffed Ubi totally stabbed them in the back with malicious intent when they delayed Rayman Legends and cancelled its exclusivity to the Wii U, releasing it simultaneously on the Wii U and the other last-gen platforms almost a year after it was originally supposed to be released as a Wii U exclusive.
  24. Wrong, Cowboy. Square is by far the most mediocre game company, hands-down. Nintendo is the most mediocre game hardware company, however.
