You'll know within a year if you need an extended warranty due to high PS4 hardware failure rates. I'm not saying all extended warranties are bad, just that the vast majority are. They are DEFINITELY worth it for laptops if you want them to last more than a couple years and you take your laptop out and about often, especially if the manufacturer is stingy and gives you a three month warranty. Even then, though, usually any big issues rear their heads within a year. Accidents can happen any time, though. The other thing to think about is whether or not you may want a revision console anyway withing three years. Not sure how aggressive Sony will be about revisions, but it'd be pointless to buy an extended warranty if you're just going to get a new PS4 anyway. Oh, I see Atomsk addressed the revisions issue, too, because he is a smart, smart man.

$100 for *potential* convenience? If you really have no better use for $100, I guess. Laptops or other items you carry about are better candidates for insurance or an extended warranty because they're riskier than electronics that sit in your home. (And I'd go with insurance, as those policies cover theft. But theft of your console should be covered under your homeowner's or renter's insurance policy. If you pay $100 for a scammy warranty from BB but don't have renter's or homeowner's insurance, well, there is a sucker born every minute.) Also, love the phrasing of "got a cracked screen." Damn screens just suddenly crack on their own! The RROD was a singular terrible issue. If Sony has similar issues surface in the next six months, then, by all means, get the extended warranty! This isn't a geek cred thing; it's the advice of Consumer Reports. http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/extended-warranties/buying-guide.htm And US News: http://money.usnews.com/money/blogs/my-money/2012/04/24/6-reasons-why-you-should-never-purchase-an-extended-warranty And the consumerist: http://consumerist.com/2011/02/24/9-extended-warranty-myths-debunked-by-a-guy-who-sells-them/

The only advantage to the GeekSquad would be being able to get a replacement console immediately; I used the 360 warrant twice, and had my (or the replacement) 360 back within a week or two of sending it in for repairs. And that was the *free* warranty. Most folks never need it. Staysick is an outlier, a winner in the warranty lottery. And mostly that's because he's bought crappy products like the 360 and Zune.

Don't get an extended warranty. Pretty sure Sony's warranty is for up to a year. It is almost never worth it to buy an extended warranty for consumer electronics; it's sort of a scam. Edit: If you do get an extended warranty, get it from Sony directly. It's likely cheaper than Geek Squad and you can buy it within a year of purchase (though it doesn't include accidental damage.) You're not an ignorant soccer mom; don't waste money on Best Buy upsells.

Thanks, Ethan. Good to know a regular wireless router can stream HD gaming well.

What's the tolerance for distance for remote play? What kind of router do you have? Is it wired to the PS4 or do you connect over wifi? Curious after reading the clusterfuck (as in the writer had no idea how remote play works) Kotaku article on remote play. Also want an idea of what I could expect once Steam remote play happens, as I'm fairly certain it will operate in a very similar way.

I was looking at your model, too; it just came down to a few points about the LG sounding better with music when I compared them at the store, no hdmi, the hexagonal shape of the Sony not really fitting on my TV turntable without blocking the remote receiver on the TV, and the LG being $120 off. I liked the Sony a lot. I ended up paying only $50 for it due to a bunch of Best Buy gift cards from when Best Buy severely fucked up a dishwasher installation because their dishwasher installation subcontractor exclusively hired barely functional sub-morons. Seriously. Fuck those guys.

How's remote play with the Vita? Been hearing good things from reviewers, though most weren't in a regular home environment with regular home wifi and routers.

No, most definitely Team Nirvana, just rolling my eyes at the cheeseball Nirvana cover in a trailer for a game set in Seattle (but not in 1991, apparently). DO folks think SS will be any good? I've only played about 60% of the way through the first inFamous, but got very bored with it.

It'll be back on PS+ or it will be cheap later on. Wait until the PS4 has a decent library six months or a year from now; the hype is just hype.

FDS: I can handle cords; it's the noise of the sub that's a problem for me. I live above folks who are in bed at 9pm every night because they get up so early. I have a smallish 5.1 system still, though the rear speakers need replacement. The sub really annoyed my old neighbors, and I've been annoyed by subs on neighbors' systems in the past. As for how it compares, I haven't picked up the soundbar yet, but I know it's better than the one staySICK got. Edit: Set it up. Seems a bit wonky sensing ARC even with no digital audio cable attached. Sounds good. Not like a 5.1 system, of course, but it's MUCH nicer than TV speakers and fills the apartment with sound nicely. Also better than a Bluetooth music box thing (jambox), which is what my girlfriend originally wanted for a home audio system. She agrees that this is better, though she may get one for when we travel.

Ugh, wish it were tactical. Fuck you, Bioware, for making is Mass Effect-y and fuck you, general gaming public, for preferring shitty action combat to wonderful and deep squad-based tactical combat.
-
Got the LG NB3730A sound bar.Real 5.1 audio systems just do not work in city apartments, but this got good reviews. I don't expect to mess around with the Smart TV features on it, just use it for basic home audio, including gaming.

Knack is nothing more than a mediocre tech demo Sony thought it could get parents of kids under 12 to buy. The PS4 seems like a great system, but the really good games won't even start coming out until next year, if not later. Them's the console launch blues.

I pay for PSplus and will continue to do so. I assume that when I cease paying, I will no longer have access to any games that are or ever were free on PSplus that I downloaded for free due to my PSplus membership. The free month I refer to is the month during which a given game is free on PSplus, not whether a free month of PSplus expires. So, my question: I download Dragon's Dogma but cannot finish it before it is no longer free to download for PSplus members. I remain a PSplus subscriber. Must I now purchase Dragon's Dogma to complete it? The answer I'm getting is "no, Mr. GOH!, as long as you grabbed it during the free month, you can play it forever as long as you remain a PSplus subscriber!"

Playing Lego Marvel Superheroes and it is very fun, despite being very easy and featuring jokes aimed at 5 year olds.
-
Got this on PC because I'm a sucker and it's $30 for some odd reason.
-
That's pretty cool.
-
Because it's presented as a free month, not a free forever from now on. Edit: Essentially, I thought it was possible that Sony gives the free month in the hopes that you'll buy the game if you cannot finish it during the free month.
-
Can I play it past the free month if I remain a subscriber?
-
Word. Gonna DL Dragon's Dogma. Stupid question: if we don't delete the game, can we play it past the free month?

Right. I just got the bundle as well. Who wants Fear 2, Batman: AA, and Batman: AC? PM me or steam chat me. First come, first served.
