There goes all interest I had in Khazan lol, Sekiro is as far as I'm willing to go in terms of this style of git-gud games.

Games You Beat in 2025: Year of the Backlog

Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 (PC) This was way easier than I expected, don't know if it's because I recently played Sigma and Sigma Plus, or if 2 was nerfed more for the Sigma version, either way, managed to get to the last boss without much issues, the worst part were a couple of back to back boss fights, and the first phase of the last boss. I know there's a mod that's meant to bring this closer to the 360 version, might take a look at it at some point lol, for now, I wanted to see how the vanilla version played, still pretty fun, would recommend, though I had some issues where it would freeze when trying to quit the game, or return to the main menu. Also love the notes you find, most of them are either "I suck, can't even do this basic ninja technique, I'm the worst" or Grade: A+ -
The first one was basically anime Armored Core, interesting to see this time they're moving away from mechs and towards power armour stuff.

Still don't know how to feel about the new magnetic Joycons, release button also looks like it'd be kinda easy to accidentally press while playing. Mouse controls could be cool (specially for games like Metroid Prime), but my desk doesn't have room for it lol. Funny that after all the speculation, the C button ended up being for online chat. Console MSRP is $450 for base console, $500 for the Mario Kart bundle. Games are apparently meant to be $80-$90 which is a big yikes for me, specially once that price is adjusted to MXN, wouldn't be surprised to see them going for more than 2,000 pesos lol, that made me lose a lot of hype for it. I might still get one, eventually, but those game prices hurt. This was the biggest surprise of the direct (for me at least): New FromSoft game, close enough, welcome back Bloodborne. Except it's apparently a PvPvE multiplayer game.

Cooler Master now makes drum thrones... Still don't know where this fits in the cool-stupid scale lol. That said, if I had the money and still played drums, I'd get one.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma (PC) Tried to go back to the Vita version, loaded one of my old saves and couldn't get past the worm boss in chapter 15 lol, then I tried starting a new game and couldn't get to Murai (the first boss) without having to use all of my healing items and even a revive. At that point I was sure I wasn't made for this type of game anymore. On PC however, it was a completely different story, managed to make it to chapter 12 without dying once, so I'm blaming the Vita and how awkward it feels to play an action game like this on it. I did die a bunch in later chapters though, mainly thanks to the stupid ghost fish, worst enemy ever. Also used a guide to find all scarabs, the Dabilahro you get from collecting those is extremely useful for certain enemies and bosses so that helped a ton. I love how cool and ridiculous the story is, starts out in a ninja village, then you're in a city fighting the army, there's a boss fight against two tanks, and then a helicopter, next thing you know you're now in hell, fighting a demon made of skulls. \m/ \m/ There are some parts I remember being different, but I'm not sure if I'm mixing the Vita version with Black on the OG Xbox. I had never read The Little Prince before, until Saurom announced they would release an album that was themed around it.

Def Jam: Fight for NY Much, MUCH better than Vendetta lol, you can now create your own character, pick from different fighting styles and even learn more than one, controls have improved a ton too, now there are dedicated buttons for punches, kicks and a modifier for heavy attacks, all in all a huge improvement in terms of gameplay. The story is weird, in that early 2000's kind of way. It's kind of ridiculous how much some characters change, specially since Fight for NY takes place immediately after Vendetta, D-Mob has the biggest change lol, in Vendetta he's a cowardly bastard that has no problem doing whatever it takes to win, even trying to just shoot his opponent before a match. In Fight for NY he's all "we can't act like cowards, power isn't everything! Respect is everything! That is our code!" those five minutes he spent under arrest sure had an effect on him. There are still some issues with the gameplay, though I think it's on purpose, one fight would be super easy, then the next few would be almost impossible, then one that was super easy again, I'm not sure, but this might be the game adapting to how well or how bad you're doing. Overall, a much better experience, one that I would actually recommend. Grade: B- -

Def Jam Vendetta For the longest time, I was sure this was the sequel to Fight for New York, turns out it's the other way around. One of the most frustrating fighting games I've played, mostly due to how hard it is to actually end a fight, you can't just beat the crap out of your opponent you need to win through pin, submission or knockout, but pin and submission rarely work, and knockouts only work under special circumstances, combine this with an awkward control scheme and the result is an annoying nightmare. Not something I would recommend. I have fond memories of Fight for New York, so now I'm curious as to how that one has aged. Grade: D- -

Area 51 (PS2) Took a bit of time to get used to the controls, using R2 to aim, L2 to jump and L1 to crouch feels weird but after my brain adapted it wasn't so bad lol. The story is fun, silly, cheesy and cool, it really throws every Area 51 conspiracy theory at you lol, there's government experiments, alien weapons, a virus, a fake moon landing, a secret underground base, everything! Voice acting is neat (except for a VA that aged like milk), David Duchovny voicing a character that's involved with alien stuff, that just feels right. There were only two alien weapons but they were fun to use, and one of them has infinite ammo so that's always neat, just wish you fought more grey aliens. Alien monsters, infected mutants and humanoid soldiers are cool and all, but greys should be more common as an enemy type in a game like this. Grade: A -

P.N. 03 This was... something lol, the most positive thing I can say is that some of the ideas present here went on to become Vanquish, and that one's cool. Oh, and I guess the Papillon suit is kinda neat. The controls are awkward, even for a GameCube game, some enemies and bosses move way too fast for how slow the aiming is, environments are empty and barren and not in a GameCube era kind of way. The story is pretty much non-existent: "Here's your next mission" "Will you tell me about the target?" "No" "OK" The last boss is a nightmare too lol, overall, not recommended unless you really, REALLY want to see what came before Vanquish. Grade: D- -

Star Fox Assault Shorter than I remember, but still pretty fun. Really appreciate that it uses the C-Stick as a right stick camera control instead of some other weird control setting lol. Aparoid infection is still super creepy, specially the Corneria boss fight, still hits hard after all these years. There are some issues though, voice acting is a weak spot, Peppy went from cartoony old guy voice to monotone apathetic old guy voice lol, graphics also look like a downgrade from Adventures, and (this is just me lol) I much prefer the Arwing from Adventures over this one, Adventures has a more practical look and feel to it, Assault just kinda has pointy stuff everywhere and doesn't really land, just hovers in place.
