  1. WRT Uncharted 3. I would love a way to turn off the audio clues. I was on the verge of working one of the puzzles out when Sully started yapping on about the solution. Other times, you'd be working through it, turning stuff and what-not and the game will be giving it all "You have to turn the things!" Just a bit less hand holding would have been nice. Leant the game to my dad so it'll be a while till I can have a crack at Crushing. I can see a couple of areas being pretty frustrating.
  2. Not my bag tbh, never good get to grips with these or bullet hell games, each to their own.
  3. I love my Desire HD. HTC definitely have great build quality. "My friend" has been through a few HTC's a couple of Samsungs and is on an Arc at the moment. He's not that impressed with the Sony. My dad's got an entry level Galaxy Fit that does everything he needs it to and more. I am sorely tempted to pick up a Galaxy Nexus. My contract still has aaaaaages to run though, so I'll probably be looking at getting Google's first Motorola Nexus, assuming that's what they have in mind after purchasing the company.
  4. What a well read bunch you all are. Thanks so much for the suggestions. I've got enough samples queued up on my Kindle to last me months already.
  5. Not clicking that. Don't want any spoilers. I've skilfully managed to avoid knowing anything about these stories.
  6. @Ethan: I'm not calling anyone childish in an effort to be demeaning. Impatience and a sense of entitlement are emotions I personally attribute to children and they are the driving force behind a lot of the justifications for piracy seen here. Whether or not the goods are infinitely reproducible and whether or not any harm is done to the content creator is, to my mind, moot when considering these motivations. If you want to call my attitudes outmoded that's fine, I'll be the first to admit that I have a lot of old-fashioned attitudes, I don't swear in front of women, I don't start eating until everyone has their food, I hold doors open for others and refer to my elders as "Sir" or by their surname unless given permission to call them by their first name. However, I take issue with the amount of downvoting without response when most of the posts here are merely stating an opposite viewpoint.
  7. Not being able to find it at all is not the same as not having the disposal income to afford to buy things. The attitude of Jonny and some others here is that they have a right to consume all content created and that if they can't afford it or find it inconvenient to import it that makes it ok to pirate it. The point Battra and I are making is that you can't have everything you want just because you want it. You do not have the right to consume everything however and whenever you want. Where something is legitimately available and you can't afford it, you skip on it. End of. It's about being a grown up and saying "I want this now but for whatever reason I can't get it right now, so I'll wait till I can get it, or I'll skip it." Rather than, "I want this now so I'll take it without permission and everyone else can go to hell." I also still don't see any reason for Batra's post getting downvoted, other than that he did not agree with some people.
  8. No one is demanding you pay anyone anything. I will however say that if you don't want to pay the price, don't consume the content. You're not a five year old, you should by now have learnt that you can't have everything you want. It's not that he doesn't want to pay the price, it's the fact that he can't. Ok then, if you "can't" pay the price, don't consume the content.
  9. No one is demanding you pay anyone anything. I will however say that if you don't want to pay the price, don't consume the content. You're not a five year old, you should by now have learnt that you can't have everything you want.
  10. So you have two choices: get more disposable income or do without. Why the hell is this being downvoted? It's a perfectly reasonable position. You are not being offered a luxury/entertainment item at a price you can afford. You should therefore work harder so can afford it, or accept that you cannot afford it and do without. I think that it is fundamentally wrong that people find it acceptable to take without permission instead of doing without.
  11. I like the style generally, this implementation just made me a little motion sick with its apparent haphazardness. Though, I've been feeling a little under the weather all day, so perhaps it's just that...
  12. Ooooh, Night Watch, good suggestion. Liked the films. I'll grab a sample of Three Worlds Too.
  13. Not a massive fan of the use of typography there. It was just a jumbled mess until the dénouement. While somewhat unrelated to the topic, this (in my opinion) is one of the best uses of the style that I've seen, it gives the audio some personality, adds to the story rather than just throwing it all down for a punchline.
  14. Having finished A Song of Ice and Fire (as far as is possible) and purchased a Kindle (would that I had done this the other way around...) I am reading far more now than I have recently. So I'm looking to broaden my reading horizons. I've long been a fan of Jasper Fforde (obviously), and thoroughly enjoyed GRRM's stuff. I've just started Larsson's Millennium Trilogy but I'm not sure where to go from there, so what I would like from all the wonderfully well read people here is for you to talk about any book you've read and enjoyed that was first published in the last 10 years (or so). I value the opinions of my peers more than Amazon ratings and what not. No restriction on genre, or anything like that, just recent books that you enjoyed (or didn't if you want to warn people off an author, but let's keep it mostly positive eh?). Why the last 10 years? Well, we all know what the classics are, I can google for "100 books to read before you die", but newer authors are sometimes harder to pick up on and I'm loathe to restrict myself to reading books that have been high profile enough to be turned into films. Have at it, and thanks for your contributions. EDIT: Note that by "of the decade" I don't mean greatest of the decade, just want to pin everyone to the last 10 years.
  15. Finally finished Heart of Darkness. That was a hell of a slog. Starting on Girl With the Dragon Tattoo today. Heard good things.
  16. Oh. Well, there you go. Thursday's law is like Thursday's love. Hard and fast.
  17. Check out this hilaribad anti-Piracy piece of propaganda. http://www.viacom.com/news/Pages/anti-piracy.html They really lay it on thick. "No more Spongebob." Yeah. I'd be the first to admit that piracy won't be stopped by DRM. It also will not be stopped by highly paid VP's of this or that bleating about how sad piracy makes them. Especially not when Viacom's CEO got a $50million RAISE this year.
  18. It's still a breach of the owner's copyright. If you speak to the publisher, explain the situation and they say "go for it" then it's fine. Otherwise, you have to live with the delay. Like I've said elsewhere. It's black and white for me. Sure you're not really doing any harm, but it's still not in accordance with the content owner's wishes.
  19. Ooooh a blueberry foam. The most retarded stuck-up foody idea to date. I love that it looks like you fastened the blue jelly to my plate by first spitting on it. Delicious!
  20. It's possible that there are other infractions not related to the forum, a lot of people are coming to EA's attention for stat padding etc. In BF3. It could be that there were a couple of infractions in game and the forum post was the final straw. Like I say, we've not got the whole story.
