Games You've Beat 2021 - PXoD's Excellent Adventure
TheMightyEthan replied to MetalCaveman's topic in General Gaming Chat
Dirt 5 I really loved the first two games in the Dirt series, but then Dirt 3 went way too hard on the arcade aspects, and I was not a fan. Because of Dirt 3 I skipped Dirt 4, which I now understand went back more towards the style of 1 & 2. Heard Dirt 5 was great though, and that it made great use of the DualSense, so I picked it up, and now I think I'm gonna go back and get Dirt 4 since it's $5 in the PSN sale, so that at least says something about how much I liked Dirt 5. Turning a more critical eye to it, I do think it could have stood to up the difficulty. I was playing on the highest difficulty, Very Hard, and there were only a few events where it was even close (not counting the Sprint events, which are legit broken). And even though it's less arcadey than Dirt 3, it's still quite a bit more arcadey than 1 & 2 (and I understand 4). Stuff like not having a co-driver to call out turns, that kind of thing. It was fun, but it basically felt like the off-road Forza Horizon, which while not a bad thing per se, since I love that series, but it would be nice for these games to differentiate themselves a little more. 4/5 -
Posted this in the discord, but I thought I'd share here as well:

After I got my PSVR I went a little crazy... Astro Bot Rescue Mission and PSVR Worlds are kind of obvious, then I got the Order 1886 because I've been mildly curious about it for a while and Gamestop was doing buy-2-get-1-free so I figured what the hell, might as well get something for free. This is the adapter to use the Playstation Camera with the PS5 so I can actually use my PSVR on there. The guy I bought the PSVR from had already used the serial number to request the adapter from Sony, and the last communication he's received about it was on December 8th telling him they'd let him know when it shipped. Googling reveals lots of people aren't getting theirs, and I didn't want to wait, so I broke down and ordered one from a scalper on eBay. Finally, MGSV just because I've had my eye on it for a while and it was like $3 in the PSN sale.

Games You've Beat 2021 - PXoD's Excellent Adventure

Yeah, I watched Into the Spider-Verse right before I got Miles Morales, and it was really fun to compare and contrast the way they handled the character and his relationships. I'm also glad I watched Spider-Verse first, because MM would have spoiled for me (Major spoilers for Spider-Verse, mild spoilers for Miles Morales) -
Woo! Go Kansas!

Six days in and 2021 is already giving 2020 a run for its money.
-
He most certainly did, and nothing bad will ever happen to him as a result of it.
-
Yeah, I was confused by that same thing.

I'm not going to bother with pictures right now since those are borked, but I bought a PSVR, Playstation Camera, 2 Move controllers, and a charging base from my brother-in-law's friend. Now I have to wait for the PS5 adapter to get here. ? (Though I can still use it on my PC for some fairly limited stuff.) *Edit - Pictures are working again ?

I just realized this thread is more than 10 years old, which is nuts. I'm playing Dirt 5 and really liking it so far. One of the coolest things is that you can feel through the adaptive triggers when you have traction and when you don't, which makes controlling the car so much more precise. By the end of the first race I already found myself instinctively feathering the throttle to stay right on the edge of controllability. It's easily the best 3rd party use of the DualSense I've played so far. Even counting 1st party, only Astros and maybe Sackboy are better.

Without Doom and Fear Metal's list would be half as long ?

I finished 34 games this year: Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown Pokemon: Sword Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore Ori and the Will of the Wisps Halo Anniversary PC Fire Emblem: Three Houses: Cindered Shadows Persona 5 Royal Control: Foundation Dark Pictures Anthology: Man of Medan Halo 2 Anniversary PC Death Stranding The Last of Us Part II Abzu Close to the Sun Ghost of Tsushima Final Fantasy 7 Remake Control: AWE Paper Mario: The Origami King Super Mario 64 Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Legacy of the First Blade Assassin's Creed Odyssey: Fate of Atlantis Super Mario Sunshine Dead Space 2 Sleeping Dogs Ghostrunner Rage 2 Astro's Playroom Spider-Man: Miles Morales Super Mario Galaxy Bugsnax Detroit: Become Human Immortals Fenyx Rising Concrete Genie Star Wars Squadrons I'm not going to do all the charts I've done in previous years, but I'm going to share a few stats*: Overall Stats: Total games: 34 Total playtime: 633 hours Average playtime: 19 hours/game Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch Platform Stats: Most games: PC, 15 Most playtime: PS4^, 297 hours Most playtime per game: PS4^, 37 hours/game Fewest games: PS5^, 4 Least playtime: PS5^, 72 hours Least playtime per game: PC, 8 hours It's not really surprising to me that PS5 has the fewest games and the least playtime, since it just came out. PS4 really got a boost on playtime from P5R at 113 hours, Ghost of Tsushima at 59 hours, and Death Stranding at 50 hours. On PC I played a whole bunch of small games, like Abzu, Man of Medan, etc, that really dragged down the platform playtime average. Overall I'd say it was a great year for games. *The totals on here only reflect games I actually finished, they don't count other games I played. ^PS4 games that I played on PS5 via backwards compatibility I still counted as PS4 games, otherwise my PS5 totals would have been higher and the PS4 lower, though the PS4 average would have been even higher, because most of the shortest PS4 games I played on PS5.

Star Wars: Squadrons Fun game, don't have a lot else to say. I'm not really much of a multiplayer person, which I know is what the game is primarily about, but I enjoyed the campaign. 4/5
-
Yeah, I really like it, even playing PS4 games in backwards compatibility mode is better than it was on my Pro.
-
Holy buckets that's a long list. I have one more level left in Star Wars Squadrons so my list isn't final yet.

Oh yeah, when I said diminishing returns I didn't mean it was a bad purchase, I definitely think it makes a very noticeable difference. I was talking about how you mentioned some people claim it's pointless at that size, and meant that you have to increase resolution more at each step to get the same benefit, which is why 4k looks about as much better than 1080p as 1080p does compared to 720p, but still the jump is very noticeable.
-
Can't wait for my robot butler. Hell yeah!
-
Yeah, there's diminishing returns, but it's not nothing. In my estimation the subjective image quality improvement between 1080p and 4k is about the same as the subjective improvement between 720p and 1080p.

13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim was on sale at GameStop for $30 new. I keep hearing how it's the greatest PlayStation game no one played this year, so I've been looking for a sale, and here it is. The GameStop sale also had a thing where if you buy a new game for $29.99 or more you get 30% off a used game, and I've been wanting to go back to Death Stranding to finish all the side stuff I left undone. Since I was going to buy 13 Sentinels at that price anyway, I figured I might was well take advantage of the extra deal. I also expect my PS5 won't sound like a jet engine during cutscenes the way my PS4 Pro did.
-
Yeah, but it's billed as a console, which to me means TV, which mostly means HDMI. It just being a custom case for an existing mini-PC makes sense though.

Concrete Genie This game is just lovely. You play as a kid with a magic paintbrush, and you use it to restore light and beauty to this rundown industrial area where you used to live by painting magical monsters that help you with light puzzles, as well as various scenes to clear away the darkness. It's thematically a lot like Flower, even though the gameplay isn't at all the same. It's just so nice. 5/5
