  1. I should read the Hobbit again. It's been forever.
  2. No, I mean something entirely passive, along the lines of this: just to give you something physical to hold and for the camera to track. Maybe have each end a different color so it can tell which way it's facing. It'd be simple enough that it wouldn't compromise their "controller free" advertising, and it wouldn't be even the slightest bit intimidating without controls on it.
  3. I really liked the first segment a lot, starting out with the agriculture and then changing to factories and stuff, but kinda thought it was downhill after that.
  4. Tunnel Snakes do Rule. It's funny, that phrase just came to my head unbidden yesterday afternoon, and now it shows up here so I have no choice but to respond. The person below me's milkshake brings all the boys to the yard, and they're like "it's better than yours."
  5. Collect Construct Continue? I just backed this.
  6. That's only an answer if there's an obvious reason why only showing half the controller would be beneficial to marketing. I don't know of one.
  7. Just took Sol Survivor off. I'm going to try to squeeze Bulletstorm in this weekend, but Sol Survivor will probably be my last entry for this month.
  8. Felt mostly like a slightly crappier version of Defense Grid. Fun though.
  9. http://www.rockpaper...order-rat-trap/ The 3000 different pre-order versions have been announced. *Edit* - The bonuses appear to be different in the US. Here Amazon has the Backstreet Butcher Pack, but in UK Shop.To.Net has it. *Edit 2* - Looks like we're getting ripped off too, with UK retailers charging 30 pounds ($47) but US ones charging $60.
  10. http://www.joystiq.c...ok-at-the-full/ Confirmed that OnLive is specifically supporting Ouya, I guess above and beyond the regular Android app. This makes the Ouya at least as attractive as OnLive's own Microconsole, since it's the same price but can also run other things. *Edit* - Also, a look at the whole controller. I'm still confused about why they wouldn't show the other half before.
  11. So for illustration, let's say you're a corporation with taxable income of $20 million which (for the sake of making the math easy) takes no deductions. If you're based in Washington, which has a 0% corporate income tax rate, you pay $0 to the state of Washington and $7 million to the federal government (35% of $20 million), for a total tax liability of $7 million or 35% of your income. If you're based in Kansas, otoh, which has a 3% flat corporate income tax rate, you pay $600,000 to Kansas (3% of $20 million) and $6.79 million to the federal government (35% of $19,400,000), for a total tax liability of $7.39 million. But either way you're still paying the federal taxes.
  12. State tax laws don't affect federal tax laws except that state taxes are deductible from your income for federal tax purposes (as I believe foreign taxes are as well). Florida may not have a state income tax, but people living in Florida still have to pay federal income tax. Federal tax laws are uniform throughout the US, so while you can move from one state to another to affect your state taxes you still have to pay the federal taxes no matter where in the US you are.
  13. Florida and Delaware aren't tax havens from the point of view of the US federal government though. State taxes you pay are deductible from your income for federal tax purposes, so for the feds it's actually better for you to be in a low-tax US state because then your income is higher for federal tax purposes.
  14. Well really any country with lower taxes than the person's home country could arguably be a tax haven for that person. US federal corporate tax rates are nominally 15-35% depending on income (15% is for less than $50,000/year of income, gradually rising to 35% on incomes over $18,333,333/year), though due to deductions/incentives/loopholes large corporations often end up paying far less than that. But if you compare our nominal 35% rate to your 12.5% it sure could look like a tax haven.
  15. I want that game so bad. I wish there were people who would play it with me.
  16. I think having some kind of physical object you could use with the Kinect would have helped immensely, especially for things where you're supposed to be manipulating some kind of object, like sword-fighting.
  17. But that's completely beside the point of the topic at hand, which is how the recently exploded "casual" market will do in the coming years.
  18. No one's saying that, we're just saying Nintendo can't bank on selling millions and millions of units to "non-traditional gamers" again. If that is their strategy they're going to be sorely disappointed. If their strategy is to target more of the "core" and the kids then they could do very well indeed.
  19. But the software always sells the hardware. Your not going to get New Super Mario Bros on your iPhone. Or any Nintendo software for that matter. But Nintendo software is only going to sell the hardware to the enthusiasts, not the casuals. Grandma doesn't care enough about a sequel to a game she already has to spend $200+ on new hardware to play it.
  20. The connection is that casual players are not going to buy a dedicated gaming device to connect to their tv when they can satisfy their gaming desires on their phones.
