Okay, that is hilarious. I wish I could make it bigger... *Ba-dum, TISH!*

Just saw Tron: Legacy in IMAX 3D. That movie is everything that Avatar should've been. Amazing technological achievement, and a pretty decent film too. I give it 8/10 Shiny Metal Asses.

Wowzers. That is short. Although, my hair is really long right now (for my standards), but when mine is cut it slightly resembles yours. My hair grows too fast, so I need to cut it about once a month. Right now it's been about two months, and it's getting annoying. Plus, I have super, super thick hair so it's really hard to make look decent when it's this long. Damn, now I'm actively thinking about getting it cut, which means I'll do it this week. There goes $20 I didn't need to spend...

Hmm, well to each their own, I guess. -
I dunno, I just didn't think it was funny. Nor was the story all that compelling. And I personally disagree with the not being able to dislike an animated movie because you know how it will play out. The last two Pixar films have kept me on edge and engaged the entire time - Toy Story 3 in particular left me wondering how they were going to get back to Andy up until the point where they were rescued from the fire. That was straight up intense. I guess for me it's all about whether or not I am able to connect with the characters. Even though Wall-E was predictable, it's still a favorite because of just how damn likable that robot is. Same with How to Train You Dragon. I relate with Hiccup. I get his struggle, so I am that much more into the film. With Up, you were immediately a part of this couple's lives, and loved their love for each other. By the time ten minutes has passed, you're practically in tears. What other film - animated or not - can say that? The best part of Despicable Me was the little worker things, but the movie wasn't about them. They were like Scrat from Ice Age. They make the movie better, but they don't make it good.

"Think she might have been a racist." Oh man, I MEGA LOL'D.

I knew it was used earlier in the film (she kept showing up everywhere) but it's lazy writing to include some mystical, all-powerful device for one film only and never discuss it again. I mean, there are countless times that it could've been used in Goblet of Fire but nope, it never made an appearance because the writers needed something to make Prisoner of Azkaban work properly. I just hate how they create whatever is convenient at the time, and not what would actually make sense given the scenario. Like, (again with the LOTR analogy) Frodo was given the light from Galadriel halfway through Fellowship, but he never actually has to use it until halfway through Return of the King. Plus, he wasn't given it and told "Use this when you encounter Shelob." It was a gift for helping the Elves. I think Harry Potter suffers the most from having so many different writers/directors. It must be so hard to take over a series that four other directors have had their hands in. I know you're not trying to convert me, nor am I trying to get you to admit that it sucks, but I just think that it could be so much better than it is. It's pretty much just Baby's First Lord of the Rings, in my opinion. Also, Dark City is kick ass. There is some really wonderful, thought-provoking ideas in that film; particularly the concept of people not being in control of their lives, but rather their lives/actions/desires being a product of their memories. Really cool stuff in that film. Oh, and Fired Up was hilarious. No one ever believes me when I say that it's funny, but I watched it on Netflix on a whim one day and was thoroughly entertained. Same with The Goods, starring Jeremy Piven. That movie is super funny too.

Holy hell. Not that like, you need to like those games in order to be considered a competent gamer, but what is your beef with games like Zelda, Mass Effect and Fallout 3? Or do you not like Fallout 3 because of your previously stated hatred for FPS's? I could understand that, especially since Fallout 3 is such a broken shooter. Thank God for VATS. -
Up until about two weeks ago I had never seen a Harry Potter movie. But, my friend kept ranting and raving about how good this latest film was, so he and I have been going through them all on DVD. I've watched the first four, and I must say that had the other films not been so easily available, I never would've gotten past the first two in theatres. Chamber of Secrets in particular is one of the worst pieces of crap I've ever had the displeasure of watching. Seriously. Such a shitty movie. Goblet of Fire, on the other hand, is actually quite good. What really bothers me so far is that they feel the constant need to validate their fantasy-ness. Like, "Look, we have a dwarf for a banker! Bet you've never seen that before. Oh, and we have ghosts roaming the halls. KOOKY!" Like, yeah. I get it. Harry Potter is a fantasy franchise. No need to remind me of that every ten seconds. Also, arbitrary magical nonsense that only gets used when it's convenient to the story annoys the hell out of me. Oh, Hermione can travel through time because of this necklace that she's had but never bothered to use/mention until this moment. Well that's fortunate. I hate the feeling that they are creating bullshit just for the sake of an easier way to tell the story. I'm sure that it's all in the books, so I really blame JK Rowling for her shitty writing. Oh, and I was able to look past most of the Lord of the Rings comparisons until I got to the character "Wormtail" who is the right hand man to the big super bad dude. Seriously? Wormtail. Sounds nothing like the right hand man of the bad guy in Lord of the Rings. His name was Wormtongue. Tongue... tail.... Totally different. Oh, and Death Eaters are totally just Ringwraiths. Super lazy writing. Beyond that, I look forward to seeing the rest of the films. I really don't expect much out of these things, so when I am entertained I really am surprised and happy.

I really didn't like Megamind, or Despicable Me. I thought Megamind "borrowed" waaaaayyyyy too much material from other sources, and that from the minute the movie begins you know how it's going to play out. It just wasn't very fun. The animation was amazing though. My top animated films this year are still Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon. Haven't decided which I like better, but I'm leaning towards TS3. Really, just because they have 15 years worth of my emotions to play with, and they do it ever-so painfully.

Planning on seeing it as soon as it comes to my city. It sucks, I live in a decent-sized city and also a major college town, and we still get the shaft on movie releases. Ugh, I fucking hate Marcus Theatres. Next on my list that is actually in my city is True Grit and The Fighter.

This was always when of my favorite threads from the Old Country, so I thought I'd resurrect it. Talk about any film you recently saw and why you think it's awesome. I suppose you could talk about movies you just saw and didn't like, but that wasn't the title of the other thread. Either way, discuss movies. Just saw 127 Hours. Not the best Danny Boyle film I've seen, but James Franco is absolutely amazing in it. The film is slow-going, but it needs to be in order for the climax to have any emotional resonance. I don't think it's actually possible to make an engaging film where there is only one character and he is stuck in one location, but I don't think any living director could've done a better job than Boyle did. Oh, and "the scene" is gripping as hell. Seriously, I started sweating and my heart was racing. Intense. ------------------------ Sorry if there is already a thread like this. I looked but couldn't find anything.

Wow, you had a DV7 shit out on you already? Lucky that it's still under warranty. -
@Iamaquaman: I almost substituted the Oracle of Seasons/Time games in place of Link to the Past. Those, I think, are the two finest Zelda handheld games available. What amazes me though is that they were developed by Capcom, and not Nintendo. Odd.

I see what you mean, but still have to disagree. The bathroom murder (albeit not part of the code) was necessary for Dexter to evolve as a character. To move beyond the grieving period of his wife and try to get back into a routine. I also don't think that Dexter is likable because he is unlikeable. Dexter is likable because you kind of understand his plight. He was so severely scarred at such a young age that he has these horrible desires now. That's not why we like him, though. We like him because he always tries to do what's right, in spite of his inner demons. In season two, Dexter went into full douchebag mode by cheating on Rita, and pretty much saying "Fuck you!" to everyone who cared about him. That was Dexter being unlikeable. I stand by my analysis of season five. It wasn't the flashiest or the most intense, but it absolutely did what was necessary to move Dexter out of the mess that season 4 left, while still allowing room for the characters to grow.

Wow. So much love for ol' Gyaruson. It just makes me want to cry...

Oh, I totally am looking forward to it. The Witcher was one game that actually made you stop and reel over some of the choice you had to make. There are often times no right answer to some of your problems, and the consequences for a wrong decision can sometimes be disastrous. Plus, I just read today that if you play The Witcher 2 on Insane mode, and your character dies in combat, that there is no restarting from your last save. It's game over. Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200. I think that's so awesome.

I think a big thing too is that they constantly update the app with free content (levels, etc). There are 7 worlds in total now (at least on the iPhone version there are) and most worlds have over 15 levels each. Plus, it's only a dollar so you're getting quite the bang for your buck. I really can't think of a better deal on the iPhone App Store. Well, Infinity Blade is pretty badass...

See if there are optical drivers for your laptop that you can download and install. I know that it says in most BD movies that you need to have up-to-date firmware in order to play some newer discs, so maybe that's the problem? What model laptop do you have? -
Thanks! I kind of took some time off of the internets (particularly TAY) because every time I would come back and see what was going on, it was always just the same five threads that people posted in, and I didn't really care about any of them. I just didn't feel like forcing myself to join a thread I had no interest in just to stay part of the group. Glad to see that there are more varied threads around here. Hope it stays that way.

Super Mario Bros: There really is no better game in existence, in my opinion. It created modern console gaming, clear and simple. Without it, games would've taken years to advance forward - and probably at a much slower rate. But, besides all that, the game is still as fun today as it was in 1985. Easy to pick up and play, great learning curve, addictive gameplay. It's all there. This game will never be beat. Mass Effect: My favorite current-gen franchise. Never before have I seen so much love and thought put into a game's backstory. Every race has a history, motivation, skill set, etc. It's wonderfully written and voiced, the visuals are fantastic and the gameplay is solid. The thing that makes it stand above most WRPGs is its incredible sense of consequence and it's amazing conversation system. The things you do within the first few hours of playing Mass Effect will come back to haunt you in every game after that. No other game has offered so much customization to the story. Zelda: ALTTP: The Zelda that got me playing Zeldas. While it may not be the best Zelda, it is one of my most memorable. Rock Band: No other game (franchise) has taken so much of my life and so much of my money. Infinite replayability and the most dedicated support team in the industry that provides fresh content every single week. An amazing package. Super Mario 64: One of gaming's crowing achievements. Created full 3D gaming. Fully controllable camera, sprawling and expansive worlds, advance-at-your-own-pace gameplay. This game set the bar for how to do 3D gaming, and it took years for other games to best it. Chrono Trigger: My first RPG. I honestly don't remember much about the story beyond the bare essentials, but I do remember feeling a deep connection to the characters. This is the game that made me want to play other RPGs. Zelda Majora's Mask: Without a doubt my favorite N64 game. Incredible story with a HUGE world, interesting characters and loads of sidequests that required intense planning and execution in order to complete them in the 3-day time period. Some of the most touching and memorable moments I've ever experienced in gaming comes from Majora's Mask, when you help Kafei and Anju create a relationship. It only last for a few brief moments as the end of the world is at hand, but once united they decide to spend their last moments together, watching the sun set as the world is about to be destroyed. Then, when you fire the game back up and start over, they will have forgotten all about their love like it never happened. So sad. Super Mario Galaxy: The most fun game I've ever played. Period. So full of joy and creativity. Every level is a testament to Nintendo's ability to create some of the finest games around. Everything about it is absolutely flawless. Metal Gear Solid: The game that started it all. Showed that games can be taken seriously when compared to modern entertainment like books and movies. Incredible voice cast and musical score created one of the finest cinematic experiences to date in gaming. ----------------------------------- Honorable mentions: - Bioshock - Fallout 3 - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - Assassin's Creed II

Wait, this is Strange?! So who the hell was that white haired girl I thought I've been talking to this whole time. Man, the internet really is one big trap...
