Vault breaker... That's a pain
-
Very briefly as in literally two quick words in passing. And he says it near the very beginning, like first 15 mins. But it's said only once and with no explanation. And it's a pretty fucking big plot point, no?

Played it a ton last night when the other half conked out from early shifts. Really great game, this. Frankly I'm preferring it to AC or Batman, though the abject lack of story missions is really disappointing. Like i played for 3 hrs and have done 10/20? Really? (Though I am rushing a little to get Brand.) I think a far bigger issue however is how much Monolith utterly fucked up the narrative pacing. It's almost a phenomenon. Tomb Raider was exactly the same, and Far Cry 3. It's like these devs decide to cram 30 mins of exposition into a 5 minute opening sequence , which leaves one totally uninterested/ confused about the scenario. There's no weight to it. I knew most of the story and set- up going in, so even though I was like 'this feels really rushed' to begin with, i could follow what was happening. But my partner - who knew nothing other than it was Middle Earth and a little about the Nemesis system - didnt understand it at all. She got his family were killed obviously, but didnt get who he was, who Celem was, who the villains really were, ANYTHING, because frankly the game doesnt tell you it. We arent told that the fam were killed in a big massacre. We arent told 10 years has passed (how?!) we arent told Celem doesnt really know who he is. So disappointing. Thank christ the narrative smooths out after 5-10 mins. At least TR and FC3 had really basic expositions- ME:SoM actuall has a pretty complex plot going on. It's not excusable imho. Edit: but the gameplay itself is phenomenal, so hey. I think my rant there only exists because the rest of the game is so together, the rushed as fuck opening really stands out.

6pm GMT eh? Maybe. Maybe. But: A) I'm level 22 so will be useless B) I don't really have several hours to kill C) I need to get time in with the giiiifrieeend, so playing something we can both enjoy may be a priority. But if you're really struggling, invite me.

Picked it up during lunch at work... I caught a nasty cold on the flight back from Rome, hoping I can convince the boss to let me head home early... Then it shall be ON Edit: and since when the heck was Alien: Isolation out on Tuesday! Isolation and The Evil Within are both here about a week and a half sooner than I expected! This never happens! What a season! Wooo!

Reviews for Alien: Isolation beginning to come in. Looking very good. 8/10 from Eurogamer, 5/5 from Guardian, didn't bother looking at any others.

I can udnerstand a reviewer who doesn't like horror dinging it for its length (it's apparently really long for modern non-RPG SP AAA games) because a lot of what makes tension work in horror games could be seen as fiddly and outdates (slow process to save the game, slow animations for world interaction, and so on).

I'm really keen, but next week is deffo better for me. Like Monday or Tuesday. The other half is on lates so I'll be by myself in the house until 11pm or so, at which time I SHALL BED Here all week. This weekend Imma mostly be playing Shadow of Mordor, and will deffo not have time to reach L26 or more in that time.

How evident are the procedural/systemic aspects of the Nemesis system? Ie will you go to different places/have different emergent objectives depending on the orc leaders? I like to think each playthrough will be very different and unique, but chances are in reality it'll be 98% the same experience.

Sounds nice, though that world size is a little disappointing. My demands on worldsize are pretty ridiculous. I love worlds which are massive, and specifically ones in games which don't force you to use a map all the time. Not having a map/having a limited map makes you enjoy game worlds so much more. This is why I liked AC3's map so much. The frontier was fucking amazing, you could proper get lost in it. I'm hoping Unity will match or exceed world size and have a great sense of adventure due to the intricacy of Paris' layout. Goh: see the edit to my previous message! I noticed too late...

Yeh they dont use them in emails or anything. It's fair enough linguistically; period points are clear enough in most fonts to not be necessary Anyway, GAMES Specifically, AC GAMES I hear Rogue's gameworld is 2.5x the suze of ACIVBF's. Now that's a number I like. Almost singlehandedly convinced me to preorder

Tryin to be hip. Apparently many big silicon valley companies are dropping capitalisation in all correspondence, marketing, etc. Take a look at the ACIVBF non-Animus context and see for yourself what hipster wet dream the creators of ACIVBF are living in Edit: Ethan, seeing as everyone seems to be hesitant to make a Shadow of Mordor thread- hows that going? Hows it compare to AC? Ive been hearing its a real nice mix between AC and Arkhams gameplaywise, with the Nemesis stuff spicing it all up Edit edit: lol then i see Jack's thread

I'm not sure they're trying to form a state- I think the name refers to the ideal Islamic State and generally trying to turn EVERY nation they encounter into one. Like literally a religious crusade.

You cant compare Piper and Ted! Piper isnt amazing, but Ted is the WORST Season 2 of OitNB seems a lot better. Only watched the first episode but it has a MUCH better plot hook. I totally get what you mean, Chronix, about not feeling like watching any more episodes. It's a great show, proper excellent- but sometimes feels like an actual effort to watch.

It's literally unbearable alone. Ive turned it on to play myself like 4-5 times and turned it off within a couple of minutes each time. Shit is fucked. Edit: imagine it with Oculus or Morpheus... Probably genuinely heart/panic-attack inducing.

Titan Punch is literally the only thing I regret missing by being a Warlock. Except perhaps Hunter daggers. My bud LST4R who I play with frequently storms around saying 'I am kickpuncher' whilst smacking things in the face. Is there any actual level cap? I recall the number 40 being bandied about, which seems kinda fair.

Lol Yes they were basically not fun and that comic is saying that they were. Destiny's core gameplay loops are amazing and the environment is phenomenal, that's what really is fun about it.
-
Aye, on a planetary scale that is pretty far though? Many more small countries in between. But it's besides the point anyway- they're all about ideology not sovereignty, so borders don't actually matter.

Quit giving ISIS attention and they might go away. Why is this even the US's problem? God damnit. No way- in most cases I 100% agree with the 'stop covering it' approach to mass murdering campaigns, but this is very different. There has never been an invading violent group as numbered, as widespread, or with as much money as IS. They are literally unprecedented as a non-nationstate group. The amount of ground they've covered in a short amount of time is terrifying. Obviously US isn't in any line of fire atm, but there's rapidly growing support for them in many countries which could threaten the US (including the US). Like if it weren't for Japan you could easily say the same about WWII. US weren't directly threatened by Germany physically- that doesn't mean it isn't everyone's problem. Tho IS are further away obviously

Yeah that is a shit comic haha Nobody was doin it be ause it was fun, everyone was doing it becuase they felt they HAD to in order to consistently get loot If anything it's the opposite of the comic. 'Shit no-ones having fun so let's try to fix it' even if they only did so in a half-assed way
-
Basically level 27 or above though right? Surely only two of us are that!
-
Ah don't worry about it, wasn't a problem at all. I kinda enjoyed the absurdity of it. She was obviously that type though. I may be on next Thursday- in Rome until Wednesday- but after that i'm hoping plenty of my time is taken up with Shadows of Mordor! If i'm online, join me up.

Absolutely devastating. I saw a guy on Kotaku (that DocZeuss hipster) saying that Destiny isn't broken at all, and that we're all playing it wrong. His argument was that you're meant to do strikes and shit mainly for Vanguard points which you then use to buy THE BEST gear, rather than killing loads of enemies in the hope they'll drop okay gear. Basically we're meant to buy gear, not loot it. Not sure I believe him. Thoughts?

I played with you Vech! ... And your friend's wife berated me about my accent

As Cowboy said, if you like the Desmond stuff, you'll just dislike the ending more. The last act rushes the whole thing out and fucks your investment in it. Like i just didnt care because they dont set the stakes up well at all and then it flops out an ending. But imho AC 3 is actually really good. The frontier is fucking amazing. Has the most/deepest (even if confusingly laid out) side content of any AC game. My advice would be to forget about the story for a while like 2/3rds of the way in and work loads on your ranch/trading.
